Derek Alton Walcott (January 23, 1930 – March 17, 2017) was a Saint Lucian poet and playwright who received the 1992 Nobel Prize in Literature. He was the University of Alberta's first distinguished scholar in residence, where he taught undergraduate and graduate writing courses. His works include the Homeric epic poem Omeros (1990), which many critics view "as Walcott's major achievement," in addition to winning the Nobel Prize.
A.J. Seymour, Guyanese Poet, Essayist and Memoirist, born January 12, 1914, began writing poems in 1936. Playwright Francis Quamina Farrier as well as A.J. Seymour's daughter, Joan Seymour and his niece, Jacqueline Deweever, talk about the life and times of this prolific writer.
