Midsummer is here! I know many of us find the heat very draining, but I love it! At the same time, I’ve been glad to see rain falling down into my garden these last two days. I’m reminded that Jesus said, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

Often we see evil at work in the world . Even in our personal lives we can sometimes experience being cold-shouldered or even rejected. In today’s message, we think about Hagar, who had been rejected by her mistress Sarah, and who had been left to perish in the desert, along with her son Ishmael.

But God had other plans and Hagar and Ishmael have long stories ahead of them. When others reject us, God has a way of taking our story on, often in fresh and surprising ways.

May the story of your life contain some rich and unknown chapters yet to explore.
