In this episode, Rahul talks to Christina Garnett - senior marketing manager for offline community & advocacy at HubSpot, about marketing and building communities on social media.

As a former teacher, Christina focuses on strengthening brands through community building and audience intelligence. She talks about her journey from an English Literature degree, to teaching maths, and finally getting into marketing and social intelligence.

What was the reason for getting into social intelligence? Hear about her creative entrepreneurial ventures, founding Twitter Marketing, her experience with NASA Social, and making a positive difference in the social media space, all on the eleventh episode of Data Stories: Leaders at Work.

Highlights

  • “What they don’t tell you is how the entrepreneurial spirit is contagious. The more you spend time around people who are creating things for themselves, the more you want to do that. You will work harder than you’ve ever worked in your life, you will get less sleep than you ever have, but you will have this profound sense of accomplishment that you just don’t get when you’re creating something for someone else.”
  • “We’re all figuring it out as we go. We’re living in a world that changes so much daily. The world is in such flux constantly. How can anyone know always what’s coming next? You’re never going to have it all figured out, and that’s okay. Just bring your best.”
  • “Always be learning. You have to constantly understand that you are a work in progress, and that’s a good thing. As long as you are a work in progress, there’s room to improve. Be open to learning. Know that you don’t know it all. Be curious, because having that passion, and wanting to learn, and wanting to know more is so intrinsic to what a good marketer is.”
