Kriss & Dpalm are back to continue their rewatch of Agents of SHIELD with the first 11 episodes of Season 2. It’s an understatement to say that business definitely picks up. Looking back at these 11 episodes, we can see the pace that AoS sets that is really just unmatched by any other show. This show also does a great job of establishing that character progression has happened in between the seasons and expects that the audience is capable of keeping up. We see Coulson trying to be director while also trying to hide his urge to carve weird alien writing in the wall, a complete change in Skye (even before her inhuman transformation) into a deadly and very capable SHIELD agent, the split between Fitz and Simmons, a softer side of May AND we get new team members like Hunter, Bobbi and Mack who fit right in.
And then there’s Ward and the fact that you’re led to believe that maybe, just maybe there’s some hope to redeem him and then he just doubles down on being psychopath and it’s glorious. Not many shows are capable of packing this much action, character development and story development into 11 episodes without at least one of those three things suffering. AoS does it and it does it by following the simple concept of “It’s all connected”

We’re back to finish up Season 1 of of our Agents of SHIELD rewatch. The first 13 episodes were really good and the pace was great. The back half of the season is even better. It’s fun to go back and see all the threads and seeds that are painted in this first season. You know the season is great when you know the big reveal that’s coming and it still hits you like a ton of bricks. Brett Dalton does such a great job turning heel and you feel the betrayal just like the team does. It’s also a good reminder that this show never hesitated to kill people in horrible ways. Can’t wait to move onto Season 2.

A few months ago we announced that we would be reducing the number of individual shows here at MTR Network and that at the end of this year Super Tuesday Recap would come to an end. Seeing how The Flash was the last of our long recurring shows we covered on Super Tuesday Recap, it made the most sense to bring the podcast to a close. However, before we do that, we wanted to end where we began by going allllll the way back to our beginning and cover the show that started it all: Agents of SHIELD.
It’s been almost a decade since the show debuted and we have to say….it’s still damn good. Lots of folks will tell you that the first season wasn’t good until the big reveal after Winter Soldier but after rewatching the first 13 episodes of season 1, those folks don’t know what they’re talking about. Agents of SHIELD is a prime, rare example of a show that was run by creators who knew what story they wanted to tell, stuck to that script and then had the top cover to be able to take as long as they needed to. The first 13 episodes of season 1 really lay the groundwork for not only the rest of season 1 but the rest of the series. Looking back it’s really masterful storytelling. The pace is actually pretty quick as well which is something to note because in later season the pace picks up even more.
This is going to be a fun and exciting rewatch. Listen as Kriss and Dpalm sing the praises of this great show.

It’s the end of an era as The Flash on CW comes to an end. It’s been a wild ride with some really high highs and some really low lows. And that really sums up this final season as well. The final four episodes though did at least close the loop on themes from the entire show run so that’s definitely some credit there. Are there things we wish that were done better? Absolutely? Did it feel like this season was filled with unnecessary tie-ins for other CW shows (And not the one we wanted cough Legends of Tomorrow cough)? Yup. But the show at least ends on the themes of family and Barry’s growth with Iris which makes this at least a successful ending. It also makes us wonder what would have happened if not for all the interference from outside. Unfortunately we will never know. Instead we’re left with hoping that the Flash movie turns out good and that the director realizes that Grant Gustin will always be the superior Barry Allen over Ezra Miller.
While this is the end for The Flash and our Arrowverse coverage, it’s not the end yet for Super Tuesday Recap. Before we shut this show down we’re going back to the beginning and are going to do a rewatch/review of Agents of SHIELD from the beginning. We’ll be taking June off then will return in July to cover the first half of Season 1. So stay tuned.

We’re coming up on the end of the Flash series and while this wasn’t a bad episode, we can’t help but look back at the wasted time the other episodes in this shorter season had. With only 3 episodes left, it’s a bit weird to only have Barry in the episode at the very end but we get it. Narratively it works, but as a whole we can see how this final season really suffered from the show not knowing this was going to be not only the final season but a shorter one at that. Hopefully the next 2 episodes do this show the justice it deserves and lands the plane.

After a bit of a hiatus we’re back with The Flash and it was worth the wait. We finally get an episodes fit for the final season. They gave us Wally, Diggle and most importantly, Stephen Amell back in the suit as Oliver Queen. We didn’t realize how much we missed seeing Amell kick ass as Oliver Queen until we saw this episode again. After some very questionable (let’s be honest, they were bad) episodes, episode 9 felt like an episode that fit in line with what the final season of the Flash should be with Flash fan service. We also get the open acknowledgement of the existence of the new multiverse (not just new timelines) and a proper goodbye between Diggle and Oliver. Hell they even made us feel better about Diggle giving up the power ring to be with his family. This was a good episode and it gave us hope for what’s coming next.

We finally get to see Barry using his speed after only being told he was running fast the last two episodes. While not perfect, far from it actually, it does feel like we’re a bit back on track. We’re still very concerned with how they plan on landing this in the remaining episodes. But at least this episode removed the characters (or at least didn’t focus on them) we don’t care about and moved other characters forward from where they’ve been.
We also talk about the Blue Beetle trailer. Is DC finally getting its act together?

Kriss and Dpalm review the latest episode from the last season of The Flash, Wildest Dreams. We’ve officially reached the point where we have no idea what they’re doing. The pace and storyline seem to have no urgency for the last season. And we’re not 2 episodes in a row where Barry not only doesn’t put the suit on but doesn’t even use his speed (on screen). And no offense to Supergirl fans but we don’t care about Dreamer showing up on this show. We really hope they land the plan in the few remaining episodes.
Iris and Nia fall into a fever dream and explore different possibilities for their lives; Barry, Chester, Allegra and Cecile desperately try to help them; Khione feels that Mark is trying to make her something she is not.

Kriss & Dpalm are back to talk about the second episode of the final season of The Flash, Hear No Evil. It's clear that the show isn't going to waste a bunch of time and stretch themes and storylines out over this shortened final season and we think that's the right move. In previous seasons giving Snow autonomy over whether to bring Frost or Caitlyn back (at the expense of her own being) would have taken a few episodes. But in this condense season, not only do we get that all in one episode, we also show the growth of the other characters on the show when they talk about what side of the decision they come down on. Plus it was good to see Barry & Iris make the mature, seasoned call at the end without having to bring Joe & Cecile into it. Add to that the fact that it seems that we might finally get a proper, organized and coordinated Rogues Gallery, we're liking what we're seeing.Speaking of liking what we're seeing, we also discuss the trailer for the Flash movie. When the fact that Ezra Miller makes a terrible Barry Allen doesn't ruin the trailer and still gives us a glimmer of hope, that should say something. The Flash is back for it's final season and it's hard to think it's been 9 seasons. There have been some ups and downs but it still pretty remarkable to think this show has lasted so long. It's easy to dismiss it now in the days of Disney+, HBOMax and Prime Video series that have taken off. But for a network TV show about a superhero on a network like the CW that went beyond just being a superhero show in name only, it's done pretty well for itself. We talk about this first episode and what we expect from this 13-episode final season. We also talk about the announcements for the new DC Universe that James Gunn made. It's easy to be skeptical of DC and these types of announcements that seem to happen around the same time every few years. But this time feels a bit different and we're daring to have a bit of hope. We're back after a little bit of a break to talk about the last two episodes of the Flash. We get the guy that always makes Flash episodes better, Thawne. And this time what's better than one Thawne? Two Thawnes. I don't care if Thawne has lost his memory and found love, he's never to be trusted. Never. On sight. ON SIGHT. There are two more episodes left and we know that Thawne is going to be part of that. So that's going to be fun. It's a little sad that they seemed to close the door on Diggle becoming a Green Lantern but with CW being sold, we get it. Oh and we have to talk about the "other" Flash, Ezra Miller. What a dumpster fire that is. WB is in a tough spot to have a star that at the center of your multiverse plan being what seems like, a groomer. Can't be good. Halo Season 1 was not good. Let's just get that out of the way right now. This isn't coming from the perspective of a Halo stan/fan. Objectively, this show was a mess. It had no idea what story it wanted to tell and whenever it got a decent idea of a good story, it would then shuffle off to something no one cared about. Episodes 8 & 9 weren't bad, but coming off of that terrible episode 7 there was really no where to go but up anyway. The the real problem with episodes 8 & 9 are that they should have been episodes 4 & 5 and been the focus of the story the whole time. Instead because they weren't, so much gets crammed into them that they are illogical and the key points don't hit how they should. This show has some good action scenes and there are some good ones in 8 & 9 but it seems like overall the show is allergic to the thing it does best. Considering there's no follow up on Kwan and what they were trying to do in episode 7, one has to wonder why that was even a storyline to waste time on in season 1. But the entire first season of this show is full of that kind of confusing nonsense. We also need to talk about how this show does a terrible job with female characters. It seems to fall into that old trope of "Oh look, this female character has emotion so let's show her being irrational and compromised." It was bad enough when they did it with Kai-125 but then they turn around and did it with Makee in the last 2 episodes. Makee goes from unflinching coldness when killing a whole ship of people to being a frail, scared woman holding a gun cause she fell in love with John and got some dick after 1 day? Come on. It's insulting. Halo is getting a second season but it doesn't deserve it. The writing and execution of season 1 was a huge disappointment. Rewarding this show with a second season is just going to reenforce all the things it did wrong.

Okay time to wrap this up. Picard Season Two was a bit of a mess operating mostly off of vibes and good will. We get into why we like what we like from this season and a lot of what we did not like from this season. Overall, this was a C+ for us, but we will keep watching Picard for Season 3 to see what the TNG Crew will do.

Didn't seem like it was entirely necessary to do that but maybe they're working on something else with this storyline considering what we see Caitlyn do at the end of 14. Episode 14 though is just...not good. It didn't seem well thought out. We get what they were trying to do but the execution just wasn't there. Halo Season 1 is such an incredibly frustrating and disappointing show. That in itself is an amazing feat since before the first episode, we really had no expectations for this show. But the first two episodes (particularly the opening of the first episode) really showed a lot of great potential. What followed though was a disjointed and inconsistent show that is suffering from an identity crisis that would put Marc Spector to shame. This season constantly sets up rules which it doesn't follow. In the first episodes, Master Chief and Silver Team are heavily monitored. But since then, Kai has been completely off her meds and doing weird shit and no one seems to notice but Master Chief. Nothing makes sense. And then there's episode 7. Hands down the worst episode of the season. This show has done everything to make Kwan not likable and then they make the character the center of an episode that structurally just doesn't make sense. All the sudden Soren is back home (with no real explanation), doing another job but then comes back to save Kwan? What? Why? This is so dumb. Can Halo stick the landing in the last 2 episodes of this season? Probably not. At this point the hope is that they hit the drawing board when it comes to Season 2 and start fixing things.

One thing fans need to realize with these Disney+ series is that even if some are only mini-series, they're never meant to be the end of the story when the season/series comes to a close but a beginning. And the finale of Moon Knight clearly shows that. Marvel has listed episode 6 now as a season finale instead of series finale. But will there be another season? Who knows. But what we do know is that what they did with the characters here is clearly meant to carry on. From turning Layla into the Scarlet Scarab to revealing Jake Lockley in the after credit scene, it's very clear that the is more to these characters that Marvel is planning on continuing on with. This entire series has been nothing but character studies. Even Khonshu vs Ammit is a battle of philosophies and extremes (and both maybe wrong). It's truly amazing what Marvel does in only 6 episodes but it's also worth noting that because they have so many avenues to revisit these characters on screen, it's really a cheat code. They don't have to tell a whole, complete story because they always have the option of spreading it out into additional movies and TV series. Moon Knight is definitely one of their more unique offerings. It helps to have someone like Oscar Isaac who has such great chemistry with himself (lol).

The penultimate episode of Moon Knight really shows the strength of Marvel's Disney+ series when it comes to diving into characters and exploring what makes them tick. This episode sees us get the backstory on why the Steven (and Jake) personalities exist. And it's kinda heartbreaking. Instead of being a weakness, Steven was created to be a strength for Marc. Marc having to come to terms with all of his memories and experiences to balance his scales made for a great watch. In the larger picture, it also shows how the MCU can use these shows to give us the character studies and background on characters in these limited series without needing to use that time in the movies. This is a busy upcoming week. We have the final episode of Moon Knight as well as Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness hitting theaters. The embargo for the film is up at midnight on the 3rd so get your filters ready if you're trying to avoid spoilers..

The Flash is back this week and Barry is stuck cleaning up everyone's mess. It continues to be amazing how much stuff gets packed into each episode of Moon Knight without it feeling too crammed. It's hard to believe there's only 2 episodes left. This episode starts off as a Mummy-like expedition with Steven and Layla trying to make it to Amunet's tomb before Arthur and his cult. And they're trying to do it without Marc or Khonshu. And it goes about as well as you would expect. And then there's the end. Pulled straight from Jeff Lemire's 2016 run. Giving us just enough to wonder if this whole thing was made up in Marc's head but then also showing us that no, no this is very real. Also gotta love that Marc and Steven knew to leave Jake in his sarcophagus.

The first episode of Halo opened up strong and while we appreciate them trying to build out the world and a larger story, we really want them to get back to what got us in the door. We're in a golden age of streaming TV shows right now and what we've learned is that you can tell a really great story without needing 22 episodes. Halo has a 9 episode first season and each episode is almost an hour. Yet it doesn't feel as if the show is using that time efficiently to tell its story. We haven't seen Master Chief (or Silver Team) in action since that first drop-in during episode 1 and that's really a shame. That doesn't mean that the story they're telling is bad. It's not. It just needs to be supplemented with more action. Right now the show isn't playing to Pablo Schreiber's strong suit. It's funny because The Mandalorian had the perfect blueprint for how to do this but Halo is really struggling to figure out exactly what story it's trying to tell and how to tell it. There are still some interesting things it's trying to do and plenty of time for it to right the ship. Let's hope they can.

Episode 3 of Moon Knight picks up the action as Marc, Layla and Khonshu head to Cairo to stop Arthur and it doesn't go well. First off, we get more confirmation of the 3rd personality (Jake) as things get a bit more violent and neither Marc or Steven know who was in control. Also we see why Khonshu is kinda on the outs with the rest of the Gods. Even when he's right and they should be listening, he comes off as completely unhinged. Both Marc and Khonshu look completely out of control compared to Arthur. It's one of those things that shows that you can convince people you aren't a threat by keeping a cool head and acting completely unthreatening. Halfway through the season Moon Knight has done a great job of keeping the spirit of the characters while making much needed changes. Layla is clearly supposed to be more like Marlene but with much more agency and a much better character overall. We're also clearly on a journey to see all of Marc's personalities come to terms with each other (along with Khonshu). This is the first time we've seen Khonshu actually be nice to Steven and not talk down to him. Making each personality have their own skillset has really paid off. Marvel has gotten pretty good at getting a lot of story into a short amount of time with their Disney+ series and Moon Knight is no exception. We get our first appearance of "Mr. Knight" with Steven summoning his version of the suit. This series has been surprisingly funny and part of that has to do with how out of his depth Steven is. This series is continuing the theme of the hero needing to find peace with themselves and in this case, Steven/Marc (and possibly Jake) are literally having to do the same thing inside of one person. Add in the very petty, violent and annoyed Khonshu and this is one of those times when maybe you do need to listen to the voices in your head. But that also is what makes Arthur such a good villain. As the former avatar for Khonshu he knows exactly what Steven/Marc are hearing from him and how much of a blunt instrument Khonshu treats his avatars. But this is why Arthur is so dangerous. It's hard to tell what was more reckless this episode. Frost and her mother using her as bait to lure the Black Flame or Iris knowing she has this unknown sickness going around and still trying to track down Tinya's mother. We know which one caused the bigger issue. Iris out her blinking people out of existence. It does make us think that the end of this season really will be Iris being taken to the future. Also the WB/Discovery deal is done and so now the questions are: What now? There's a Flash movie coming out with a troubled star (Replacing Miller with Gustin just isn't going to happen). This episode of the Flash gives us more information on the mysterious Meta that is killing people. It's feeding on grief and we think it might be a version of Cobalt Blue. This would make sense with the changes that we saw happen in the Bart/Nora episode as well as the fact that well...everything leads back to Thawne. It would really make sense if this was Eddie Thawne as well. One thing that is a valid criticism of this episode is that it didn't lean on the fact that the previous episode had Barry being motivated by his own grief and loss of his father. This should have been an easy link to what Chester was going through and it was a missed opportunity. Work smarter not harder. We're back to cover another Marvel Disney+ show. But this is a first. All the previous Marvel shows, while introducing new characters, have largely revolved around diving into existing characters. Moon Knight however, is the first series based on an entirely new character. And what's even more interesting is that it's not an origin story. What really works with this first episode is that we the audience are in the same position as Oscar Isaac's Steven Grant. We have no idea what's going on just like Steven and we get plopped down into situations just like he does. It's a great way to introduce a character and get the audience to invest. Marvel also continues its trend of bringing the heat when it comes to acting talent. Oscar Isaac always brings it 100% with his characters. It's what makes Fox's Age of Apocalypse such a travesty. How do you have Oscar Isaac playing Apocalypse and don't utilize that to his full potential? In Moon Knight, we get Isaac playing two completely different characters at the same time and it's a Master Class. It also helps that he's playing off of Ethan Hawke also does a great job. Add in F. This episode of the Flash was a villain origin story. When Taylor destroys Allegra's life, just know, it was deserved. We appreciate that the show didn't smooth things over and make it seem like everything was okay. Nope. Allegra pulled a really terrible move (and Iris reenforced it) and so when Taylor burns down the Citizen, well...they had it coming. For the main story, it was nice to see how Barry was dealing with the emotions of his father's birthday. This episode didn't paint him as being completely irrational or compromised by his emotional state. Rather, it made him lean on his instincts and the evidence in the case to bring a different perspective. This storyline would have hit a bit harder if Jaco was a villain the audience had more of a connection to. It could have built the doubt about his innocence a bit better. It will be interesting see what they do with this new Meta and if it ties into a larger story. Also, the Flash is officially coming back for season 9. Flash and Superman & Lois got the green light for their next seasons. We're still waiting to see what happens with Legends of Tomorrow, Naomi and Batwoman. The only live action Flash we're getting in 2022 is back. With news that The Flash movie is delayed...again, that leaves Season 8 (and potentially Season 9) of CW's The Flash the only version we're getting. It seems like the merger between Discovery & WarnerMedia is leaving a lot of things in flux right now. Normally the CW shows are all renewed by now butt so far nothing really is. There is news that Grant Gustin is locked in for a Season 9 but no announcement that the Season is actually renewed. So with that in the backdrop, we have the show returning after it's very long break after only 5 episodes. This episode focuses on the kids, Nora and Bart. We get to to see what this show would be like if it transitioned to new leads and you know what? Not bad. It was fun to see Bart & Nora working to restore the timeline, even though we know there is still something weird going on. The question becomes, whose making the time changes? Nora being the calm steady one while Bart struggles that he's not good enough to one day take on the mantle of the Flash was a great way to have some familiar beats with new characters. Legends of Tomorrow hasn't been renewed yet for Season 8 but we hope it does. We really want to see how the introduction of Booster Gold goes on the show because there's so many fun things they could do. But even outside of that, this was a really great season that really did a great job exploring different aspects of the characters and letting them grow. Episode 12 could have served as a series finale in a way, giving the Legends a glimpse of what their lives could be if they moved on from being heroes. But in the end, the Legends show that if their individual happiness comes at the expense of someone else's, particularly a member of their family, they won't hesitate to give it all up to help. For as silly as this show goes, it does a really great job of growing characters and completely embracing inclusion storylines. The moment when Sara doesn't even hesitate to call evil Gideon a fascist was a prime example. This show doesn't try to "both sides" the issues or sit on the fence. It constantly makes genuine stances and does it unapologetically. And for that, we love it. Kriss and Dpalm record the Mailbag at the end of every month. Another solid Legends of Tomorrow episode directed by one of the cast. Legends of Tomorrow continues to be one of the most progressive shows on TV. You gotta love it when they have Thawne show up and yet the thing that we spend most of our time talking about is how they're handling sexuality. This show constantly doesn't care about what others might think and that's a good thing. Not only did they have Spooner come out as asexual but the storyline with Davis is really dealing with the conflict of faith and being gay. There are a lot of shows that deal with LGBT issues that talk about how some individuals struggle with their feelings because others are telling them their feelings are wrong or evil. But Legends is saying the quiet part out loud and has Davis feeling like he deserves to be punished by God for his sexuality. And it's great that Ava was there to step in and tell him that he shouldn't believe that. For as silly as this show gets, it's really great that it can still make these kinds of stories serious and genuine. And then there's Thawne. No one should believe that he's helping Sara and is completely reformed and isn't going to use this next 40 minutes to do something really terrible. There are 2 things that are certain: Death and Taxes. And Thawne has beat both (Remember he left that tax bill for Barry to deal with). We wrap up this episode talking about how the Arrowverse goes down first ballot Hall of Fame. When you look at where super hero television came from and the fact that no one has done more episodic superhero shows than Berlanti and crew and well, props are due. You don't have to like all the shows or even where they are now. But when you think back to the days of Smallville or even Lois & Clark from the mid-90's, it's not even up for debate. The Legends head to a Reality TV show from Hell because of course they do. What's so great about this show though is how they take silly premises and make them really great ways of exploring their characters. That's probably the best contribution that Legends of Tomorrow has right now. The story is the story (and there's nothing wrong with that. It's fun). But it's the larger journey of how this show continues on, unapologetically being who it is. And it's pretty progressive as well. Legends of tomorrow is back from break and so are we. This episode gives us a look at what's been happening with the evil Android team of Legends. It also carries on the theme of "What makes one human?" as we see that Gidget (evil Gideon) is controlling the evil androids by removing the most human parts of them. This becomes true with what happens to the android version of Sara when she's reprogrammed to just be an assassin and reduce her leadership skills to keep her in line. What makes this really work is that we've seen this in previous seasons with Sara struggling to accept that she's more than just an assassin. So to see Gidget reduce the android version of her to that was a good call back. Kriss, Ro and Dpalm are back to wrap up this season of Hawkeye. While it was one of the shows that might not have been on the top of the list for us before it dropped, it really turned into one of the best Disney+ series. It feels like Marvel got better and better (on top of already being really good) with each series they dropped this year. With Hawkeye, they did a really good job of filling out the characters of Clint, Kate, Yelena and even Natasha while also building up future stories with Maya. This series had some really great emotional moments. We also want to see more Kate and Yelena together. And then there's "The Big Guy". Bringing Wilson Fisk into the MCU officially (it's still up in the air how much of the Netflix shows will remain canon) was great. He's clearly gotten a physical upgrade and we don't think he's dead for a second.

The Flash Armageddon event wrapped up pretty nicely. We get a conclusion to the Thawne/Allen rivalry (for now) with Barry saving Thawne's life by removing his speed. We also get a visit from Mia who seems to be sticking around for a while. Looks like we might end up with a bit of the story they were trying to do with the Green Arrow spin off. What really works for this episode is that it centers on Barry being a hero and what that means. Florence Pugh is lovely. Gotta love how she plays Yelena in a way that's so disarming yet also reminds you that she could kill you at any moment. This episode of Hawkeye does well to set us up for the finale. It also does a great job of showing why it was a good idea to put Black Widow after End Game. It's very clear that the Phase 4 MCU theme is how different people deal with grief. When you look at this show, we have Clint, Yelena, Maya and even Kate all being individuals that had different (and in many ways toxic) ways of dealing with grief. Also, get you someone that has your back like Laura has Clint's. She basically told him to "Do what you gotta do and hurt who you gotta hurt". And then there's the reveal of who the "Big Guy" is. We all kinda knew but it was still great to get confirmation. Also, Marvel are a bunch of assholes for how they did it (a grainy cell phone video? They knew we wouldn't care). We can't wait to see how the finale plays out.

It's a good thing we didn't get to these final two episodes until December because we can say "You sit on a throne of lies". Y'all this finale was not good. The final two episodes of Supergirl do not pay off any of the arcs they've been building on instead choosing to conveniently wrap up Nxyly and the arduous search for the totems in the first ten minutes of the finale episode so they can spend the next thirty on an overly long wedding scene that could have been a montage. And in spite of the show being called Supergirl, the person who really carried these last two episodes was tiny little Esme (Mila Jones). We know that baby's back is tired. Unfortunately, as we predicted, the show seemed unsure of what to do with Kara this season, wrapping up her story with the reveal to the world that Kara Danvers is Supergirl. It's no "I am Ironman" moment, that's for sure. We talk all of this and the many ways we would have closed out this run of Supergirl's final season on this week's podcast.

It's all fun and games until a Black Widow assassin shows up. Kate was starting to make a little progress getting Clint to accept her but as soon as Yelena shows up, Clint shuts everything down because it's clearly gotten way too serious.This episode revealed a lot (while still having so many questions). This really is all about a watch. And it might just be a regular watch with nothing fancy in it. Probably a retirement gift that traces back to Laura. And Laura is clearly not just some quiet, simple housewife. The minute Clint starts asking Laura to run things down for him, it's clear she's got deeper connections to the "game" than anyone thought. While we don't think they'll officially making her Bobbi, it wouldn't be a shock if she's a former SHIELD Agent who had the codename Mockingbird. We also get more of what we talked about last week with Clint revealing the way he sees himself. Not as a hero but as a weapon that needs to be pointed at the right target. It's clear that Clint hasn't given himself any grace and isn't seeing himself as worthy of redemption which is even more reason why he needs it. There's only two more episodes left and we can't wait to see how this all ends.

Thawne proves once again that he's a master manipulator of time. He didn't just change a few things in the timeline this time, but rather decided to completely take over Barry's life and basically become him. To top it all off, he fixed a mistake from the first time he tried to stop the Flash and made sure to kill Barry as a child. Thawne really won this time and if it wasn't for Damien Darhk having a soft spot for his daughter, Barry would have been screwed. Overall this episode was really good. There are a couple of things that didn't work (as well). First, once again the show leans super heavy on the "love being the key" theme. While it makes sense to continue to have that theme throughout this show, it felt out of place at times. We really didn't need the Chester/Allegra part with Alex playing therapist. It just felt forced and repetitive from what we were getting in other parts of the show. Also while it was nice to see Ryan Choi for the first time in the Atom costume, he really was just sitting there like we were supposed to already know his relationship with the rest of team Flash (and even his own personality). Again, none of these things take away from the overall episode but did stick out. It will be interesting seeing how all this concludes. While Barry was able to get the timeline back to normal (including Joe), now Thawne is pissed because he's the only one allowed to manipulate time. This could be the end of the Allen/Thawne conflict. Kriss, Ro and Dpalm are back to discuss episode 3 of Hawkeye. We talking about the introduction of Echo (Maya) as well as the potential to bring back Fisk into the MCU. This was before the news from Feige that if Daredevil comes back to the MCU, they would not recast and would use Charlie Cox. So it's not too far fetched to think that Vincent D'onofrio's Fisk could make a return as well. We also discuss Clint's road to redemption and why it first has to start with him thinking he deserves to be redeemed. Clint has always tried to keep his two world's separate and we see the dark path that took him on during the Blip. Natasha at least found a purpose during that time while Clint was struggling with the fact that he lost everything that he thought made him good. We'll see how this all plays out over the next three episodes.

No Legends of Tomorrow this week (apparently the last episode was the mid-season finale) so it's only The Flash this week. We get confirmation that of course it's Thawne behind all of Barry's problems. Thawne couldn't match Barry face-to-face so now we see that he's gone to his go to: Messing with Time. Outside of the Thawne reveal that we knew was coming there are other things we liked and are keeping an eye on. First, Cecile and her powers are probably greater than most people realize. She's not really training not user her powers so we only get glimpses of what she can do but every time she ends up going well behind what we think are her limits. Also, in the scenes with Barry and Black Lightning, we get more hints that there are things that have happened that we haven't seen since all the worlds merged. That was a nice touch. We’re back with another Marvel Disney+ show. This time Hawkeye takes center stage. The first two episodes dropped on the day before Thanksgiving. So far there are several things we like about this series. First, its good to get some in-depth focus on Clint. While Black Widow only recently got a solo movie, that character got a lot of screen time in other movies. Hawkeye has always been a bit of a mystery. Even with the Blip, we know he became Ronan and went to a really dark place but we never really got a lot of details on that. Looks like this series we may be getting more of that. Not only that but we see Clint dealing with basically PTSD from his time working as an Avenger. He’s losing his hearing, clearly is still messed up from Nat’s death and just wants too spend some time with his family for Christmas. Clint gives off big Murtaugh from Lethal Weapon vibes this whole time. Then there’s Kate Bishop. She idolizes Hawkeye (The show does a great job showing a flashback from 2012 and the Battle of New York). She’s also dealing with her mother and her shady boyfriend who is CLEARLY Swordsman. Kate clearly has the skills but is also not really ready for the amount of shit she’s gotten herself and Clint into. It’s going to be fun watching both of them being forced to work together. So far the show feels pretty straight forward but we know we’re going to get a twist. What was the big deal with the watch the thieves were trying to steal? Is Kate’s mom just as shady as her boyfriend/fiancé? What’s the deal with Echo leading the Tracksuit Mafia? Lot of questions to ask and we can wait to see what they have coming for us.

Kriss and Dpalm are back to review the latest episodes of Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash. On Legends, we see the trend continuing of the Legends being stuck in history and trying to keep a low profile but not pulling it off. The Legends are doing the thing that's always talked about in time travel. If you go back in time and see injustices happening, do you just sit back and not do anything because you need to "protect the timeline" or do you do the morally correct thing? We also see that evil Gideon has been busy and has created a team of evil robot Legends so that should be fun to deal with. On the Flash side our suspicious are confirmed. Joe West is dead. We're not the only ones just receiving that news as Barry is shocked to learn that Joe's been dead for 6 months. Of course for Despero this just just more evidence that Barry is going bad. Barry also lost his job because he's under investigation and Star Labs is condemned. To us, this all smells like Thawne. Thawne can't beat Barry one-on-one now and Thawne causing everything around Barry to collapse feels right up his alley. Timestamps:

The Flash is back for Season 8 and it's kicking off with a 5 part event, Armageddon that will span the Arrowverse and bring some familiar faces. Like Ray, the Atom. Who it was good to see again. Honestly we're already liking the direction the show is going. Barry being confident in his powers and really settling into that mentor role. Also Iris is running her own media company which feels like a great step up for the character. On Legends of Tomorrow, the show is really leaning into the AI/Robot route and flipped the script on us a bit. Doesn't look like they're recycling Bishop as the big bad and instead looks like it might be evil Gideon. And we end the episode talking about THAT trailer. Yes, the Far From Home Trailer. Rest in peace William Dey! And Andrea needs her behind beat. The back and forth for the totems continues, Lex is in love, and Alex is leaning into her parenthood. Esme becomes the center of the penultimate battle as the love totem begins to manifest itself in her body, and Kara continues to work on discovering the things about herself that the totems and the battle against Nxyly are revealing to her. The only challenge is we don't know where Kara ends after the season and there is no hint of where this is going, but we are along for the ride.

Legends of Tomorrow's 100th episode was a welcomed surprise of some of the OG Legends. It was great to see Snart, Hunter, Jax, the Professor and yes, even Carter again on the Waverider. As silly as it is, Legends of Tomorrow is such a smartly written show. Much like how Agents of SHIELD did everything with a purpose, Legends does the same thing. By centering Spooner, Astra and Gideon, we get a really good "You're a Legend now" episode. We get one of those every season but every season it still feels fresh and different. This week Shanna and The Doctor are catching up on two new episodes of Supergirl "Hope for Tomorrow" and "Nightmare in National City". In "Hope for Tomorrow" Nyxly is still trying to find the totems and realizes that trying to inspire hope is for the birds (ed. note: #relatable) so she'll just let Kara get the totem and force her to hand it over. Nyxly uses the only leverage she can think of, kidnapping William who is the official scribe of the Super Friends. After trying (and failing) a bunch of times, Supergirl and the rest of the team manage to avert a potential nuclear war which gives the world a glimmer of hope and allows them to acquire the Hope totem. Supergirl decides to destroy the totem so Nyxly can never assemble the All-Stone but Nxyly receives an anonymous gift that may turn the tide back in her favor. This takes us right into "Nightmare in National City". Nia has been searching for the Dream totem and she finds out that her sister Maeve took all of their mom's research books and ran away after their father found out that Maeve told Nia she's not a real woman. Nia has to work with her sister who is a wealth of information even if she is a b*tch. Meanwhile, Nyxly is working with a new mech suit courtesy of Lex Luthor, and when she manages to grab the Dream totem by the skin of her teeth, Lex uses it to reappear. Oh Nyxly, if you thought your father was a problem, you have no idea. We talk totems, Alex's new role as an adoptive mom, and Kara's burnout all on this week's podcast.

So...apparently we're doing robots this season of Legends of Tomorrow. Maybe. Possibly. Who knows? Honestly, it doesn't even matter. This show has a winning overall format and it's sticking to it. As silly as everything is, this show knows when to throw in the serious as well as the social commentary. They don't play around or sit on the fence about J Edgar Hoover and clearly state that he was a terrible man. They even go as far as giving us a rich vs working class debate right in the middle of that episode. This is what makes Legends of Tomorrow not only good but consistently good. They lean on their cast, split them up and dive right in. And they know when to make you care. Not a Spooner and Astra fan? Too bad because you're going to have to be. We're back with a new season oof Legends of Tomorrow. If it feels like season 6 just ended, it's because it literally ended last month. And the show picks up like we never left. The Legends are stuck in the 1920's with no Waverider or Time Bureau technology. So what do the Legends do? First they start pretending like they're part of the circus to explain the alien invasion. Then they set off on a crime spree as bank robbers on their way to New York to try to find a professor that could help them with time travel. Oh and they accidentally kill J Edgar Hoover on the way. This season is off to the typical Legends start. Also what makes this show work is how they're able to integrate new characters and keep everything fresh. Sara is the last of the original Legends but the crew still feels like the Legends, even with the new members. Everyone has a role to fill and play and it all works so well. This week on Supergirl, Nyxly is after the totem of humanity and this gauntlet is like no other because while the totem draws the humanity out of the humans around Nyxly, it also channels all that humanity into her. Losing their humanity turns National City into a city full of Karens and Chads with everyone displaying their absolute worst selves. Even the dream couple that Kelly places one of her foster kids with turns out to be the worst when they're caught by an angry mob. And even though Nxyly has some moments of empathy in this episode, ultimately, she doesn't seem to be fully internalizing the lessons she's learning from her totem trials and it seems like that's going to be the key to truly defeating her brother and father. Lena, on the other hand, is learning a lot about herself as she tries to master the magic she's inherited from her mother. It's a struggle for her because magic relies on intuition and feeling rather than facts and figures but with William's help, she's able to see past her frustration. William, you ask? He's finally embedded with the Super Friends and he's granted exclusive access to their headquarters and behind the scenes of their missions. Initially, Kara and the others want to keep certain details of their missions under wraps but they realize that telling the public what's happening will garner more trust than holding back. Andrea (who has low-key become a J. Jonah Jameson-level villain) is still pushing for more. If she keeps going, she's going to end up causing serious damage in her pursuit to sell newspapers. We talk about all this and more below. And let us know your predictions for the end of Supergirl because we're looking for some good theories about how this wraps up.

This week, we begin the search for the totems, and the first one up is the totem of courage. When Kara and Nxyly get to the totem at the same time, they end up breaking it in half and the only way to possess the full totem is to face their fears. Surprisingly, Nxyly manages to complete the gauntlet before Kara when she has the courage to be vulnerable. Seeing her father and brother in the gauntlet is only making us more excited for when she faces them for real. We talk the gauntlet, Lena's newfound magic, and the aftermath of last week's episode. We absolutely loved this week's episode of Supergirl but ... y'all gone get these jokes. Co-written by our own Kelly Olsen (Azie Tesfai), "Blind Spots" is Supergirl's "racial reckoning" episode focused on Kelly's fight to be seen and heard by her teammates whose focus is on giant cats and fifth dimension sized problems that create blindspots (MESSAGE!) to the very real problems that Kelly and Orlando and the other residents of the Ormfield are dealing with. When Kelly finally breaks down and calls her brother to vent, he sends in Diggle (another Arrowverse cameo from David Ramsey, who also directed this week's episode.) as back up and Kelly and Dig bond about how their everyday problems can be overlooked by their teammates when imps and aliens are around. Although the episode is well done and manages to ride a fine line between superheroing and realism, it does tip over into preachy and prescriptive especially when Kelly talks to her white friends and it feels like she's reading straight out of White Fragility (which also gets a cameo in the show alongside Ta-Nehisi Coates' Between the World and Me). Overall, this episode does a great job of discussing race directly without the metaphors around Kara's alienness and it's a great reminder that just because you experience some oppression, it doesn't mean you understand all oppression. I do think if Supergirl wants us to buy Kelly Olsen as a superhero in the suit, they need to stop making her an even better superhero outside of one. We asked and Supergirl immediately answered. On this week's episode "Mxy in the Middle" we check back in with Lena and the search for her mother's origins. Lena travels to Newfoundland, Canada (which is actually home to a large Irish immigrant enclave) and finds that her mom wasn't the sweet, innocent she'd come to think she was but Lena's mother also isn't the bitch the townspeople think she was. Instead, she was a witch. That's right. Lena Luthor is the daughter of a witch and it looks like Lena may have a touch of magic inside her as well. And that's going to be helpful because with Nxyly powered up and Mr. Mxyzptlk back in town, it's going to take magic to fight magic. Because she doesn't know about Nia's part in freeing Nxyly from the dream realm, Kara is blaming herself for the havoc Nxyly is bringing to National City. And while the Super Friends do everything they can to protect Mr. Mxyzptlk without sending Nxyly back to the Phantom Zone, in the end, Mr. Mxyzptlk sacrifices himself to atone for his role in Nyxly's banishment. We'll see how the rest of the season plays out but we're hoping that Nyxly can switch sides and gain the support of the Super Friends to take down her father and brother who seem like the real bad guys here.

This week, Nia's opened a can of worms, and luckily, her mom lets her know it's not okay. After Nyxly (obviously) screws her over, Nia is reunited with her mom and finally faces the person who's been holding her back ... herself. Back in National City, Kara and the Super Friends are fighting gentrification. Even though he's out of jail, Orlando can't get Joey out of the group home until he has a steady job and housing, and his housing prospects are tanked after a tech company moves into a project that used to be designated for low-income housing. Kara is determined to use Supergirl's social media cachet to fight this city council but she makes a new enemy in Councilwoman Rankin (Kari Matchett) who was stewarding the project. While Supergirl has always walked a fine line between real-life politics and superhero tropes, this season some of the character development feels rehashed. Also ... Where. Is. Lena? Nia's story with her mother would have so much more impact opposite Lena's search for her birth mother but Katie McGrath seems to be missing in action. We discuss all that and more on this week's podcast.

Season 6 of Legends of Tomorrow was great. Particularly the final run of episodes. Its weird to say this about an episode where Mick becomes the father of alien-human squid babies, a giant alien mushroom protecting the earth from alien invasion, John dying and becoming a mushroom (and more ridiculousness) but this was probably the least ridiculous Legends finale we've seen. Part of that is because this season did a really good job of tying all the themes together. Especially with Spooner. She was a bit annoying for most of the season but the show did a great job pairing her with Astra the last few episodes really worked. Also the reveal about her origin and mother also worked well. This was also the best send off for two Legends. First, it was nice to see Mick settle down and complete his arc. The moment with him and Sara sharing a beer and reflecting on their time was a good reminder of how far they've come. Then there was John. Still the bastard he's always been. It also leaves the door open for him to return. Or even better, for him to end up in a live action movie. There really is no need to find another John Constantine. We're back for another Supergirl review! This week, The Doctor and Shanna talk about Kelly Olsen's attempt to offer wrap-around services for the Super Friends. When Kelly visits a group home occupied by some young aliens, she uncovers a larger scandal that relates back to a story Kara covered for CatCo. While Kara is interested in pursuing the story, Andrea is still pressuring her and William to write TMZ style puff pieces on Supergirl and her crew. This episode actually touches on some great issues (prison corruption, child abuse, and journalistic integrity) which more than makes up for some truly ridiculous decisions that Nia makes in her attempts to reunite with her mom. It's time for another Mailbag. This month we didn't get any new listener emails but that's okay since there was a ton of news to talk about. This is the time we usually see San Diego Comic-Con, D23 and other convention news. We had a bunch of much anticipated trailers from Marvel drop (Eternals and Spider-Man No Way Home). We also talk about a trailer we didn't talk about last time in Venom 2. Hey, it at least looks better than the first movie. The Suicide Squad might not have had a big box-office, but its the most watched DC film on HBO Max. Also coming soon to HBO Max, a Black Canary movie. At least that's what's been announced (You know how WB/DC is on follow through). On the comic side, Marvel has announced an exciting upcoming roadmap that has some upcoming stories that seem to elevate certain characters we might be seeing in the MCU. The Fantastic Four will be involved in The Reckoning War which Dan Slott has been hinting at for 15 years. Kang will be at the center of Timeless. And Jason Aaron is doing a multiverse Avengers. Kara is back in National City (or is she? The jury is still out on that) and she's returned from the Phantom Zone with her father, Zor-El. After years in the Phantom Zone and still riddled with guilt over the death of his home planet, Papa El is determined to make sure that Earth's climate crisis is averted. This is one of those times where even Supergirl's ever-present optimism falls short. Everyone kind of agrees that the climate crisis is a big deal and may require a different skill set than the Super Friends have to offer. But Papa El is insistent that Earth does not follow the path of Krypton so it's the Super Friends vs. Climate Change this week. Kara is also struggling with her return to her life as a mild-mannered reporter because she's been assigned to look into the Phantom attacks (which were a byproduct of the team trying to rescue her) and she's dealing with PPSD, Post-Phanthom Stress Disorder. It's always great to see shows tackling the trauma of superheroing and Kara has been through a lot recently. Even a "love conquers all" hero like Supergirl has their breaking point. Legends has been on a roll with these last few episodes. This show has always done a great job of juggling the ridiculous with the serious and giving us great character development and this episode highlights that. Everyone (the audience and the Legends) know that Bishop can't be trusted yet the show does a great job bringing that into doubt. First with him really getting to Ava and second after he saves Mick. And while we still don't know his new end goal, we see this whole episode was just so he could get a comm device and tempt Constantine. Also, as we've been saying, the Constantine addiction arc has been really good. They really do a great job of showing the toll addiction takes on a person. It helps that this feels like a natural conclusion for the Constantine arc we've seen develop since the NBC show. We look forward to how they will wrap all of this up. Once again we're back with what could be considered the perfect Legends episode. You get ridiculous hijinks with real serious character moments. It's what this show does so well. First, the Legends are bored and nothing ever good happens when they're bored. Second, they decide to fill that boredom with a board game Gary brought. It's Gary. Everyone should have known better. And third we have a seriously addicted John using magic recklessly. Yes, this was always going to end poorly. We said this last week but the addiction storyline with John is hitting far better than previous addiction storylines in the Arrowverse. That's mainly because this fills really earned. Watching John struggle and not pour out the rest of the blood felt like a real moment. It's something that goes all the way back to John on the NBC show. This feels like a natural arc for the character. It also pairs nicely with Zari admitting that she loves John and starting too realize that maybe John has gone down a dark path. Also...Bishop is back and we know this is going to end badly. We knew he would be back but we just didn't know how. Sara can't be happy. Kriss and Dpalm record the Mailbag at the end of every month. One thing you have to admire the Arrowverse shows for is how they give opportunities for their actors to get behind the camera and direct some episodes. And even better, those episodes are usually pretty good. The Final Frame is Jes Macallan's (Ava) first shot as a director and it's pretty well done. This is the first Legends episode back after a big break and the show picks up where it left off and gets us right back on board. Constantine's magic addiction is clearly going to be a big problem and unlike other addiction storylines in the Arrowverse, this one feels natural because it fits right in with the character we've seen. Also needs to be said that Nate is being written extremely well this season and we like seeing the maturity from him in his relationships. And we think the formula for not making Spooner terrible is to pair her up with someone else who is being just as stubborn and boneheaded as she is. First with Astra and this time with Mick. This season of The Flash had to overcome a lot. The last season ended early due to Covid and that meant losing 3-4 episodes of this season to wrap that up. Then there was the fact that they shot this season in the middle of a pandemic which brings a ton of new set of restrictions and problems to overcome. We say all that to say that while this season definitely had it's issues, considering everything it had to overcome, they did a pretty good job of wrapping everything up. The end of the season really slimmed down to focus on the most important things (seems like some of the Forces just weren't that important). We also get the return of Jay (John Wesley Shipp is really a great Jay Garrick) and some really great moments with Bart & Nora. And of course we get the return of Thawne. All in all, we appreciated what they did with this season considering the circumstances. We look forward to season 8 and hopefully a full, uninterrupted season. We're doubling up on the reviews since we missed a week. We're reviewing episodes 9 & 10 and both are filled with the mix of ridiculousness and serious character introspection we've come to expect from Legends of Tomorrow.
Nate is still the greatest. 100% on the Nate train Gus Gus might be discount Beebo but he's still adorable...until he grows into an angsty teen sasquatch We get some good character development on Behrad in episode 9 and also a return of OG Zari Episode 10 is Spooner's best episode and a pattern is emerging where she's best right now when paired with the other oddball members of the team We should have seen Mick being pregnant. Of course this show would do that John's once again gone down the dark side and it's going to be a problem for everyone

Overall this season of the Flash has had its ups and downs. But it's important to remember that this was also a shortened season affected by Covid. That said, this episode before the 2-part finale does a lot but that's not necessarily bad. We didn't like what they did with Ultraviolet this episode. Felt like they fridged her right after an episode where they saved her. We're hoping this isn't the case. But outside of that, everything else worked really well. It was nice seeing Diggle and the continued drive towards him being a Green Lantern. We hear them saying its not happening but then we see this episode and well...it better being happening. We also see them trying to tie everything back to the forces with Deon showing up. It was feeling a bit awkward not seeing Iris the last two episodes but they cleaned it up a bit with the reveal this episode. There's just A LOT going on in this episode and while most of it is good...its still a lot. Part of that again feels like an aftereffect of Covid shootings, schedules and having to wrap up the last season at the beginning of this season. We definitely have a feeling that Thawne is behind Godspeed which would be fitting. August Heart definitely has a "The Return of Barry Allen" feel to to him but we'll see. Also we finally get the kids showing up, XS and Bart. And the suit looks better in motion than it did in the screenshots. So bravo. Captain Nate Heywood? Look...we're willing to have the conversation. Kriss has officially joined the Nate club. Nate has become a responsible Legend and it was weird at first but suits him so well. Aside from that, this was a "classic Legends romp" all the way down to the mishaps (And Rory sitting it out). It feels kinda meta because a classic Legends episode always turns into an introspection for various characters and that's what we get here. Ava dealing with the new reality with Sara. John trying to get Gary to spill the beans on the alien magic fountain. Zari and Behrad working out more of their issues. And finally an episode where we didn't hate Spooner because they paired her with Astra and made Spooner halfway useful. Add to that that this was clearly a play on Tremors and how can you not love this episode? Also throwing in that Diggle is related to Bass Reeves was a nice touch. We see you David Ramsey. It feels like this Season of The Flash is getting back on track after a pretty horrible run in the middle. One of the interesting reasons for this is, the less Barry & Iris we get, the better the show has been. Now that's not to say that Barry & Iris are the problem and are terrible and need to go. No, the problem has been the writing for both characters. This show struggles when it makes Barry and Iris regress into making really bad decisions. But when they have them as the elder statespeople of the team. Last week it was Barry helping Cecile and Iris helping Chester. This week, the show takes them completely off the board and we get Allegra learning the hard lessons Barry learned about being too naive. And you know what? It worked. It also helped that we get Sue aka Jamie Bond as well as Joe leaning into what makes him Joe. Kriss and Dpalm record the Mailbag at the end of every month. Gotta love how Legends of Tomorrow mixes the serious with the ridiculous. We get the crew coming up with the most ridiculous plan to save Sara (which turns out to be how she got kidnapped to begin with) while also getting very real moments tied to the theme of "What makes us who we are?". Past Sara gives some really solid advice to Spooner and then her future self gets that same type of advice from Mick. This is what makes Legends such a great show. If you've been following the story of Sara Lance since Arrow, this all fits perfectly with her development as a character. Her constant battle with her identity has been etched into this character since she showed up as still alive having not died on the Queen's Gambit. Seeing her once again return from death and having the question of "Am I really me?" being asked never gets old because it's not only a defining part of her character but is done differently each time. Also, this seems to set up perfectly for John needing to get the source of alien magic so he can perform a magical alien exorcism to get the alien part out of Sara. Or at least try. So two episodes back from the break and it really feels like The Flash is getting back to the show we want. This episode, Chester officially takes over as the new man in the chair and with that comes the predictable stumbles. But this is also the show we expect. With Barry helping Cecile face her demons and Iris helping Chester realize that he is a valued member of the team and he doesn't have to overcompensate. This is the Barry & Iris we want to see. The "elders" of the team/family, stepping up and helping the other members grow. We don't need any set backs for Barry & Iris to do it either. Also...it was great to see Sue again. Ok let's get the bad stuff out of the way first. One, this episode feels like it probably should have been at least 2 episodes. The pace is all over the place and it's overstuff with different story elements. Also, we're still not feeling Spooner. It feels like each episode they're workshopping the character to see what will work. To be fair though, this isn't the first time a character on Legends has taken a while for us to warm up to, so if there's any show that can pull, it's this one. So with that all out of the way, we're starting to see how things are going to come together. Constantine is keeping his lack of powers from the team and so we know he's going to have to seek that alien magical source to get his back. Also, the theme of this season is clearly "what makes us, us". We're seeing it with Bishop and Sara (Sara is now a clone). Spooner trying to figure out what she is. Both Astra & John dealing with their new situation. Even Gary being an alien. It's always fun watching Legends start off feeling like it's just silliness with no real connections only to watch as the writers start pulling it all together. When things aren't looking good, play the hits. It's always a good way to get your loyal fanbase back onboard. And with that in mind we can say that after the little break and this latest episode, The Flash hasn't completely lost us. It wasn't looking good there for a minute. The last two episodes before this weren't that good and really had us worried. But this episode being the final goodbye for Cisco and Team Flash did hit us pretty good. Mainly because they got back to basics and didn't have Barry and the team backsliding on their character development. If anything, Barry not initially showing emotion for Cisco leaving because he knew if he did, he would have asked Cisco to stay and Cisco would have...is the character development we're looking for. We don't want to see Barry continuing to make the mistakes he's made previously. Plus it was nice to have Vibe be the one to save the day. We're definitely going to miss Cisco. It's hard to put our finger on it or explain it but somehow this super weird ass episode was so on-brand and ridiculous and over-the-top and we loved it while the episode before it was a little bit "too weird" for us. But that doesn't make any sense when you have an episode about Aleister Crowley being trapped in a painting and switching places with John Constantine, the end of the episode turns into an animated Disney movie (complete with singing and dancing) and Sara meeting the creator of the Ava clones who wants to basically turn human beings into weird alien-human hybrids. We can't explain it. But we love it. Actually there's a pretty simple explanation. It's the character development. This episode gives us some great development with Astra and John. Yes, it's given to us an a ridiculously silly way but it feels real and earned. It also puts John in a new situation (with no magic) and opens up the door to this mystical alien magical source. Add to that the seeds of doubt that Bishop sows into Sara by saying that at her core Ava is still just a clone doing what she was programmed to do and we get some real, series moments for characters that feels earned. What the Hell was that? Seriously. What the Hell is going on with The Flash? We got a bit excited when we saw they were taking from the Williamson run and doing the Force War. There was so much potential with that story, particularly with dealing with Barry and bringing Family back together. And instead we get a two part, contradictory storyline that makes absolutely no sense. First it was the Forces were bad and tried to kill the Speedforce and needed to be stopped. Then it was Nora/SpeedForce was really the evil one (complete with a switch over to Goth attire). Then it was the Forces are Barry & Iris' children and need to be protected from their "sibling" the SpeedForce. We're just gonna ignore all the people Psych and Fuerza killed. Then...inexplicably this the forces go back to being the "bad guy" cause they're tearing apart of the city (unknowingly I guess? It's never really explained). We get some really really REALLY bad CGI in a fight. And then in the end, just like with Eva, it's all taken care of with the power of "Love". And that's all in addition to the random Frost storyline that literally erases The People vs Killer Frost (why did we go through all that just for her to be paroled for doing what she already did but now in a pointless fight?) and Joe West for some reason deciding to not be Joe West and sit on his ass and do nothing. Whut? Guys...this was not good. It was really really really bad. So bad it actually gave us pause as to whether we want to even finish the season and that has NEVER happened before for this show.We were giving them the benefit of the doubt at the beginning of the season because of Covid and the need to wrap up the last season. But now there's no excuse. We're glad they're taking a week off because we need a moment to talk ourselves back into finishing the season. They've finally done it. Legends has finally done an episode that is so ridiculous that it even gave us pause. Maybe part of that was the really TERRIBLE JFK impersonation. Then there was the literal football game over the nuclear football in the White House. And then there's the fact that...we're really not feeling Spooner. We get it. The new person on the Waverider always rubs people the wrong way at first but for the love of God can someone show this supposed "gun loving" character the proper way to hold a gun? It's not all negative though. We see what they're doing with Mick and we like it. He's one of the last of the OG's and so its nice to see his character get a bit more focus as this might be his last season. Also, we saw it but don't you dare do anything with new Zari and Nate.This show is known for doing that kind of stupid stuff with relationships (one of its few consistent problems). Who knew that Director Sharpe tasted like chicken? Of course it would be Gary to figure out first that the people after him and Sara were actually Ava clowns and of course he ate a few (It's going to take a while to get used to Gary being an alien). That's the great thing about Legends. We have no idea where any of the stuff is going with Sara and Gary but we're fully invested. And while we wait for it to be revealed, we get to deal with the usual Legends hijinks and watch the Legends spoof America's Got Talent/The Masked Singer to hold off an alien invasion. What makes Legends work is that it leans into its ridiculousness and knows exactly what it is. We were disappointed with this weeks Flash episode because we had Barry doing the same dumb thing that he's been doing every season and it feels like we're getting now growth. But Legends does the same thing every season but manages to keep it fresh by mixing up the characters learning the lessons and using it as character growth. As ridiculous as this episode is we get more growth on social influencer Zari, another odd ball relationship (Zari and a Constantine that wants to settle down), and Ava telling Mick to get his shit together and calling him out. This show has always been about the cast and letting them do what they do best to tell the story and it really reminds us of how well Agents of SHIELD worked out. Episode 10 of Season 7 of The Flash (Family Matters Part 1) is a bit of a frustrating and disappointing episode. Yes, this season is doing a great job of sticking to the theme of family and making it connect to all the characters on the show. We're also happy with the adaptation this season is doing with the Williamson run. That said, this episode was disappointing because it feels like Barry had a huge backslide. We've done this before. We've seen Barry push someone he's training too hard and not be understanding. Watching Barry push Alexa was just annoying. His whole thing of "We need to do this to protect yourself" made no sense. There's no indication that the other forces, even when trained could stop the Speed Force (see the end of the episode). Not only that but just logically, it makes no sense to train someone to use this power when you don't even fully understand it yourself. It would have made more sense if it was Iris or someone else on the team pushing Alexa to train but not Barry. Especially when he made a boneheaded decision the last episode (time travel...again Barry?). It shouldn't have taken Caitlin pointing out that Thawne Wells should more patience and understanding when trying to teach Barry to use his powers than Barry showed Alexa. Come on man. Our hope is that since this is a Part 1, Part 2 will make up for this momentary lapse. The good news is Barry seemed to finally get it. Problem is, in the end Alexa still went to help him so did he really learn a lesson? We'll see. We'll also see what's next for Joe now that he's stepped down as Captain. We're really curious as to what Kramer's problem is. Her fight against metahumans seems way more personal than "a meta betrayed my team". Kriss and Dpalm record the Mailbag at the end of every month. We are back to get Kara out of the Phantom Zone with Zor El and Nxy! That said, we are also on hiatus until August when the show comes back. The episodes were entertaining, but predictable, leading us to wonder if we finally got the slump the show never had before in the six seasons that it's been improving. The best episodes were the Back to the Future ones with Brainy and Nia being centered, allowing the actors to show their incredible comedic and dramatic range. We also noticed that the costume department hit up the Walking Dead wig department for the Cat Grant wig (they did our girl so dirty). The acting in these four episodes are solid, we are just a little concerned about the storytelling. Take a listen and a watch and let us know what you think!

Gotta hand it to Iris and Barry. They take the approach of "Go Big or Go Home" when it comes to bad ideas. First, Iris really gotta stop calling the Speed Force 'Nora'. That's not Barry's mom. Clearly. Also, while we appreciate the optimism and desire to save people/things, not everyone can be saved. When the Speed Force not only admits to manipulating Barry to help her attempt to kill another Force but then flat out says "You're gonna help me kill more", that's not the time for "We can still save her". On the flip side, Barry...time travel never goes well for you. Never. Don't even think about it. That said, all the choices, even the dumb ones, line up with the characters and the story that's been building. The Flash is about family and making Barry & Iris the creators/parents of these new forces make sense. It also highlights how much not having a Flash Family anymore has affected them. Flashes don't run alone. And right now we're seeing more and more of the non-runner family slip away. Wells is gone. Frost is locked up. And it seems like Cisco is finally ready to leave Central City. Clearly the big theme this season is family and building the Flash family back up. Never ask what's in the secret sauce. Never. It never ends well and you're never going to want to know the answer. As always, what makes Legends of Tomorrow so good is that it's able to be absolutely ridiculous, while also having serious moments. Sure it's easy to focus on the ridiculous things like the not-Mothra Mothra (complete with Godzilla roar), the not-so-subtle shots at McDonalds or Sara & Gary following a dog on an alien planet with a scarf. But there are other things that actually connect to the ongoing themes and story on the show:
Nate has actually been really enjoyable this season. Nate is at his best when he's not just blindly following behind his latest love. He actually seems content and accepts what's happened to Zari and that just makes for a better character. Also, he's a good character to be the number 2 to Ava and remind her that it's okay to not be okay with Sara being gone Ava's actually becoming a good Captain because she's leaning into the disorganization of the legends and recognizing that that is what makes them work. This is what Sara wanted her to understand last season and she's doing it. Also, as a whole, the Legends have been pretty competent so far this season and part of that is that Ava is leaning into their strengths Sara has always been special but it seems we might be getting more information on that and why Gary was told that she was the one to capture Spooner is this season's misfit that is joining the Legends and well, can't argue with her plan: Save Sara and shoot as many aliens as possible. We can work with that

If you can't trust the God-like being that gave you your super powers and is currently occupying a form that looks like your murdered mother, then who can you trust? Gotta say, it was no surprise that the Speed Force has its own motives and methods for dealing with the other forces. Barry's always been skeptical and has been saying that something seems different. The question is why and if this is even the real Speed Force. We love that they're taking some things from the Williamson run but clearly they're making some changes. So it's going to be interesting to see how all this plays out (especially with the news of some cast members leaving after this season). Also, we appreciate how they handled the Frost situation. She's not completely out of the picture but also removes her from the table when it comes to helping team Flash (for now). We'll see how this all plays out. Well...I guess we're doing Aliens now. Seriously, is there any other show that can be this crazy and wild yet make perfect sense? Of course not. Gary's an alien. Sara is abducted on an alien ship. Ava is trying to rally the Legends to save her. Zari and Constantine are trying to pretend they're not getting drunk. Behrad is getting high and Mick is gonna drink until he cooperates. It's like we never left. Seriously, we don't know where the show is going but we're happy to be along for the ride. This show has found a new way to sprinkle the timeline with time anomalies that the team needs to clean up and this time they're alien. Oh and we've gotten more Aleister Crowley name dropping so now they have to do him on the show. Someone call the Last Podcast on the Left guys and let them know. They did it. Those crazy SOBs did it. If you told me 10 years ago (hell, 5 years ago) that Sam Wilson, a Black man, would pick up the shield and mantle of Captain America in the MCU, I would have told you that was just wishful thinking. But here we are with Marvel not only putting Sam in a comic-accurate Captain America suit but changing the name of the series to the rightful, Captain America and the Winter Soldier. But not only did they do right by Sam, but they also did right by Isaiah Bradley which they absolutely did not have to do but we're so glad they did. Right now Marvel is 2 for 2 on their Disney+ shows and Loki is right there next in the pipeline. We can't wait to see what they have in store for us on that one. Shanna, Ro, and HiroJa are back to discuss the latest episodes of Batwoman. As we get closer to the end of the season, Batwoman seems to be introducing a lot of the elements we've discussed but we're not sure how they will actually play out. Crowphie seems to be realizing that not everything in the Land of Crows is what she thought it was but now that she knows Ryan is Batwoman, how will she react to her sometimes partner and friends lying to her? Jacob is on Dat Bite because he'd rather be a drug addict than a good father to his many daughters. Luckily he and Alice are getting some good talk therapy from Enigma. In addition to the therapy, Enigma's offering two for one refunds on memories so Ocean and Alice have their memories back for now. Things are connecting and making sense even when the show occasionally takes shortcuts from point A to point B. We're not sure if this season is just a lot of setup for some recurring villains next year or if this season will end with some important loose ends but we're enjoying most of the journey.

The penultimate episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier definitely didn't go as you would expect. The "midseason trailer" that Marvel put out before it made it seem like the confrontation between Sam & Bucky and John Walker would happen later on and instead its what they open this episode up with. And it's exactly what we needed. Then Marvel decided to give us even more stuff that we didn't think we needed but definitely did. From a great conversation between Sam and Isaiah to the introduction of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. They just keep the hits coming. We all know what's in the box but still can't wait to actually see it. The only problem we're having is that we already want more. We know we're going to clearly get more but we're just being greedy now.

The Doctor and Shanna are back to review the first three episodes of Supergirl Season 6. Debuting almost a year after it wrapped last year due to the pandemic, we pick up where we left off without a hiccup in the rhythm. Lex is defeated at the cost of Kara being deported to the Phantom Zone, which is fractured into a multiverse thanks to Crisis. However, Lex is never down and stages a comeback that puts the target on Lena's back. The gang learns to soldier on without her, and Kara is reunited with her father Zor-El and who we suspect to be Jor-El's break baby Nyxlgsptinz.

This episode could have really been called "You're not my Mom!" We're glad The Flash is addressing some of the small issues that we've just kinda ignored. The two big things:
The fact that the Speed Force picked Barry's mom as the image to present to him. It was always weird for Barry but he adjusted to it. But now with the Speed Force back, the force is clearly different and more nurturing and mother-like than it ever was. That clearly was going to have an affect on Barry and we're glad to see the show address it Frost is a felon. We've been saying this for a while and it seems like the show is finally addressing this. They also made a point to clean up the fact that she never killed anyone.
The fact that the show is addressing these things also makes us look at the things they suspiciously haven't addressed. Like where is the baby? Is it just that there's no need to remind us that Joe & Cecile have a child or is this part of a larger thing? Also...while its nice that the Speed Force is being all nurturing to Barry, still don't trust it. Kriss and Dpalm record the Mailbag at the end of every month. They say Black women will change your life. I'm not sure John Walker having an existential crisis after the Dora Milaje whooped his ass is what folks had in mind with that saying but damn if it ain't true. Sam and Bucky knew they ain't want no trouble with Ayo or the Dora Milaje but John Walker's ass needed to be handed to him for him to understand that just because he has the title and shield of Captain America, he can still catch them hands. Episode 4 really solidifies why Sam is the one Steve gave the shield to and why he's the one that needs to carry. And not just because Walker got caught in 4K murdering someone with the shield. This episode also went back to lean on how we first met Sam. That he's worked with veterans that suffer from PTSD and that he can sympathize with Karli cause and motives but not her methods. The fact that his first instinct is to try to talk to her and sympathize instead of just dismissing her concerns and cause like John felt very Steve Rogers. It was also great how this episode showed Sam as the only one who would turn down the serum because he knows he doesn't need it to be a hero. Karli felt she needed the serum and to give it to more people because that power would finally make those in power take her demands seriously. While sympathetic, it's a flawed position. And John? Well John thinks the only thing keeping him from getting the respect Steve had is the serum, not realizing he doesn't have any of Steve's character. These episodes continue to get better. We've also officially reached the territory where we're sad that there are only 2 more episodes left. Marvel has really hit us hard with their first two Disney+ series and if they keep this up, the sky is the limit.

The Flash Season 7 Episode 6, The One With the Nineties feels like a personal attack. We don't know what the writers were thinking but reminding us about how long ago the 90's were was completely uncalled for. Also, people didn't dress like they do in this episode in 1998. Now if the setting was 1992, we'd have something less to complain about. Either way, this episode was an attack and we demand an immediate apology for reminding us how old we really are. Anyway, this episode introduces us to another one of the new forces, The Still Force. It also serves as a way for us to learn more about Chester who is really the only member of Team Flash that we don't know a lot about. We also have some questions about the Speed Force and if it's telling all that it knows to the team. First and foremost, congrats to Dpalm for his cameo as the bartender in this episode (Its not really him). This episode continues to build out not only the characters of Sam & Bucky but the entire MCU world post blip. So much so that some of us even believe that Sharon has fallen so far that she's now the super secret Power Broker. And while that might seem like a big departure for the character, what Marvel is doing with the universe post-blip makes it a possibility. The other thing this show is doing is showing us the progression of Sam not only needing to pick up the shield but coming to the realization that he's the only one that can. We see John Walker getting all the disrespect he deserves and not understanding that just because he's been named Captain America and has the shield, it doesn't mean he gets the respect. And on the other side, Karli is showing that just because you have a noble cause and the power of a super soldier, it doesn't make you less of a mass murderer. On top of all that, making the legacy of the current super soldier serum tie back to Isaiah, the forgotten Black super soldier, the table is being set for Sam to pick up the shield. Also, gotta love Zemo (unless you're from Wakanda). We know we can't trust him but so far...he's not been wrong. Of course Ayo showing up at the end of this episode is clearly gonna complicate things for Bucky (Unless that was always his plan).

It's time for another Mailbag episode. And what a difference a day makes. Kriss and Dpalm were going to record this on the 31st but changed their minds at the last minute and that little, innocent change had serious consequences. Because 24 hours later WB finally admits (once again) that they're not moving forward with Ava DuVernay's New Gods (As well as James Wan's The Trench). sigh Sometimes we hate being right. So for those keeping track at home: Spend 70 - 80 million more for a SnyderVerse they're not moving forward with (and only 36-37% of viewers completed) but cancel two projects (One by a Black woman and one by an Asian man) that could have had potential. Great job. It's not all bad news for DC though. James Gunn's The Suicide Squad looks amazing. Finally a DC film we're actually looking forward to seeing. Apparently the other Forces got together and jumped the Speed Force and beat it like it stole it stole money from them. The Flash is clearly taking elements from Williamson's run but are making changes to tell the story they want. The Speed Force getting beat down is definitely not from the books but hey, its keeping things interesting. We're wondering if on the show they're making the other forces emulate the emotional spectrum, kinda like what Geoff Johns did with Green Lantern. It also makes us even more skeptical of the original Wells coming back and if somehow he's also a product of one of the new forces. Three things stand out to us specifically for this episode:
Cecile is becoming pretty powerful.This is the second episode where she's demonstrated that her powers can be a good thing (or scary if used wrongly) We're appreciative that they're bringing up the fact that Frost used to be "Killer Frost" and literally murdered people. Can't really sweep that under the rug Where is the baby? Where is Joe & Cecile's baby? Is it just one of those things the show isn't show or is this part of a bigger plot that Crisis changed things.

Before Batwoman heads into another hiatus, Shanna, Ro, and Hiroja are back to talk about all the post-Coryana drama in Gotham. Alice, who is apparently on a completely separate show, is stuck in a liminal space after learning that Kate is dead. Because the stages of grief are just guidelines, Alice decides she's going to skip right over them by telling her brain that she never had a sister. This should be interesting when Kate returns with a new face. It's okay that Alice is having a full psychotic break because Black Mask AKA Roman Sionis (Peter Outerbridge) is here and he's our official big baddie of the season. Ryan has inherited his vendetta against Batwoman, the Crows, and GCPD, which kicks off when the False Face Gang shoots the police chief. Angelique was driving the getaway car and Sophie's sister, Jordan, was the sole witness pulling Ryan and Sophie into the mix. Jordan (Keeya King) is an activist and community organizer so she presents an interesting moral dilemma for Sophie who is finally starting to realize that she may not be on the side of right. And, surprisingly, Jordan also challenges Ryan's image of Batwoman as a savior when she questions the "throw a Batarang, ask questions later" nature of what Batwoman does. Right now Batwoman is settling into itself and despite some questionable glossing over of certain plot points (the Bat Team just has a desert rose plant now? Nice arm you got there. Be a shame if someone came and ripped it off. Especially if that "someone" was a Black super solider. We knew that Marvel had cast Carl Lumby as Isaiah Bradley but we didn't know how they would integrate him into the story. Look, everyone knows the cover of Truth: Red, White & Black that tells Bradley's story but let's be honest. The story itself is...well...not very good. Episode 2 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier though sets up Bradley's background by 1. not making him brain dead and a drooling mess 2. Establishing him as a bad ass who took the Winter Soldier's arm back in the 50's 3. establishes the horrific legacy of the super solider serum and how it was used on Black soldiers who were experimented on and then swept under the rug. Now instead of being a cringy story that folks have to add onto to make better, it starts off as a story we want to see more of. And that's just a small part of this episode. This episode opens up humanizing John Walker and showing him as a pretty competent choice for Captain America and we hate it. The propaganda is so strong that. We had to begrudgingly admit that he's more than capable with the shield in his hand. Of course Walker's overconfidence and assholery comes out the further we get into the episode which we appreciate. We also appreciate Bucky not being with the shit at all. We also get some deep cut Captain America references, from Battlestar to the Power Broker. We get more understanding of the Flagsmasher's motivations and we aren't going to say they're 100% right but they're making some solid points. Episode 4 of The Flash Season 7 feels like the real beginning of Season 7. It's also clear that this season is going to be dealing with the fallout of the events of last season (and maybe the season before). When you think about it, there's been a lot of shit that's gone done. From Crisis destroying the multiverse to the trauma of Eva's mirrorverse (and let's not forget Thawne causing Nora to erase herself from the timeline), Barry and Iris have gone through a lot. And it's not just them, but all of Central City. It feels like this also represents a lot of what we've all been dealing with in real life with the trauma of the pandemic. Throw in the fact that we're also clearly dealing with the new forces and this is going to be a major problem, and we're excited to see where this all leads. Shanna, Ro, and Hiroja are back to talk about the latest episodes of Batwoman, which tie-up the threads surrounding Safiyah, Coryana, and the mystery of Kate Kane ... or do they? While Batwoman managed to give us many moments of levity and even some of the plot points we predicted (hello, Tatiana calling Sophie an oppressor), the show doesn't seem quite ready to commit to Ryan as our new Batwoman and everything they've built suffers for it. In "It's Best You Stop Digging", Ryan runs around Gotham with Kryptonite poisoning instead of letting Mary and Luke take the stage and work to save her life; something that would have solidified her as their new Batwoman. Similarly, in "I've Survived Much Worse" Ryan is inexplicably pushed to go to Coryana (still poisoned but now with an adrenaline shot) and she still can't manage to get the one thing that will save her life. Although the episode ends on a life-saving cliffhanger, most of the development the show has been building is undercut by the reveal that Kate Kane is still alive as well as and the subsequent news that the role was recast. These episodes were an opportunity for Batwoman to fully entrench Ryan (and Javicia Leslie) as our new Batwoman and lay Kate Kane to rest for a time, but now it feels like Kate Kane will continue to be a dangling thread that won't be tied off any time soon.

We're back with more MCU Phase 4 Disney+ goodness. This time we're back to explore two more characters: Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, the Falcon and Winter Soldier. Right out the gate this series lets us know it's going to be way more action packed than WandaVision. Apparently Sam spent the 5 years in the blip, not erased out of existence but in a Crossfit gym. The opening of this series lets us know right away that the powers that be that don't want Sam to keep the shield don't have a leg to stand on. This is the first time we've seen Sam doing hero shit on his own and....he's damn good at it. Still not good enough to get a loan as a black man though. On the Bucky side, it's nice to see the trend of using the Disney+ shows to explore the characters that have deep troubling issues that we've just never had a chance to explore. Bucky being forced to go to therapy is good and it's also great that his therapist doesn't let him off the hook. Like WandaVision, when you think about how recent some of the most traumatic events to happen to some of these characters are, it's a wonder they're not all in therapy. I know some might be confused as to why Sam would give up the shield and where the hell Great Value Captain America aka John Walker came from. But like WandaVision, audiences need to trust the process and just let the story unfold. One of the best things so far about the Disney+ shows being the intro to MCU Phase 4 is that they're reenforcing how serious that "Five Years Later" was in Endgame. There's also a sense of anti-hero sentiment that's also going on and that never ends well. We won't lie. We're grading this episode on a curve. While it's the third episode of season 7, this is clearly what was planned to be the end of last season. COVID ended up cutting that short and so this episode is wrapping all that up. So it's with that context that we're willing to overlook a few things with this episode. It's clearly rushed and a bit cheesy and on the nose ("It's about love"). But that said, it all still fits over all with what the show is trying to do with Barry and his team. Leaning on Barry and his team and differentiating him from his enemies was a big theme from last season. And while very heavy handed, Iris being Barry's "lightning rod" is also a key element of the character. More importantly we're excited about where the show is going next now that they've been able to wrap up the story they were prevented from finishing last season. Once again this show is pulling from the latest run of The Flash and we're seeing that not only did the Speedforce come back but it seems we're getting the other Forces as well. This latest episode of The Flash is further evidence that the beginning of Season 7 is just the true end of Season 6 and we're not mad at that all. COVID clearly caused an abrupt end to the last season and instead of just moving on, The Flash is trying to complete that story before moving on to the next and that's a good thing. We really enjoy how they're tying everything back to Barry and his heart and what makes him a hero. By taking that part of Barry aware this episode and making him more tactical, we see that the benefits are short-lived and that the answer for Barry is to always lean on his family and team. It's the classic "my friends and family don't make me weak they make me stronger" troupe which is probably a bit heavy handed but we'll take it. Also, there must always be a Wells. The WandaVision finale is here. The title is "Series Finale" so it's unlikely that we will be seeing a second season but as with all things in the MCU, this feels more like the beginning than the end. Wanda embraces the role as the Scarlet Witch even though she (and us the audience) doesn't know what that means. At least not yet. There's a lot of places the MCU could go now and we're excited for the fallout. And the memes. Cause the Black Twitter Vishawn memes have been chef kiss. It's also worth pointing out how once again Marvel has tackled what could be viewed as a problematic storyline from the comic and flips it to give characters agency. Wanda Maximoff comes from a long list of female characters in comics that was written to be a victim of "too much power". WandaVision instead makes Wanda a victim of her grief that much more grounded and understandable. And the show gives her the power to get out of it instead of leaving it to a man to come and save her. Gotta love how Marvel has made that change. Now the question is, which path does she go down? Good? Bad? Or somewhere in the middle? We'll find out in Doctor Strange 2. Listen as we talk about this finale, the series as a whole and what's next. Man it's good to be back. Covid ended The Flash's last season a bit early and delayed the start of season 7. There was such a delay that we actually had a little apprehension about the show coming back. Were we really down for another 22 episode season? Were we going to remember what happened in season 6? Were we going to feel the same connection to the show? Yes. The answer is yes. Yes we are. The start of season 7 picks up right where we left off with season 6 and did a great job of getting us back up to speed and reminding us that this show was very good before things got shut down. Eva is still a real problem. We're getting closer and closer to our dream of an all female Rogues team. The show continues to pull from the EXCELLENT Williamson run of The Flash and really gets us thinking about where this show could go. Look, there will be plenty of time to be critical but right now, we're just happy the Fastest Man Alive is back on TV. Kriss and Dpalm record the Mailbag at the end of every month. Time for the second Mailbag of 2021. We tackle listener emails and some of the latest news items. Like Gina Carano throwing away a Disney bag for checks notes a Ben Shapiro project? When Disney writes your apology note for you and tells you "Just shut up and read this and stop being a bigot online", you should probably listen. Then again, no one has ever accused Carano as being smart. We're also hopeful (Hope is a lie, we know), that this will be the last time we need to talk about about the "SnyderCut". We're so tired of it and ready for it to be over. And WB/DC Films must be too cause they just announced another wave of vaporware projects like a Superman film produced by JJ Abrams and written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and a new Latina Supergirl (Sasha Calle) appearing in The Flash movie. We're calling these vaporware projects because we're still waiting on any progress updates on New Gods (announced in 2018) and while the claims are its shooting soon, the Rock was attached to Black Adam back in 2007 and Marvel put out 3 whole phases and we haven't even seen Johnson even try on the suit yet. We've been hurt and lied to before. We don't believe anything until there's a trailer. And even then....(Hi New Mutants). Anyway, strap in and give it a listen. We'll be back next month. Now that we've got the introductions out of the way, our characters are rubbing up against each other and the lines of morality they've been crossing since season one. While Ryan is succumbing to her Kryptonite bullet wound because she doesn't want to admit any weakness, Luke's alliance with Alice and Mary's connection to Hamilton Dynamics continues to put Ryan in danger and push her to compromise her ethics both in and out of the Batsuit. Meanwhile, Jacob and Crowphie (yup, you read that right) somehow manage to flout the law while self-righteously lecturing everyone on their lack of morals. Both of them are supposedly doing this for Kate but they're actually avoiding taking any responsibility for their past and current actions. And finally, Alice tracks down Ocean and she really, really, means to kill him but like any good CW drama ... it's complicated. We discuss this, fight sex, Ryan's lack of edges, and more in this week's podcast.

"But what is grief if not love persevering?" So now the WandaVision writers are just showing off. Of course that's been try this whole series but episode 8 really drives it home (Maybe even too much). If you had any doubt that this show was about Wanda's grief (How could it not be?), this episode really erases all of that. It also really drives home the fact that with its Disney+ shows, Marvel is really trying to meld the way they tell stories in their comic book world with their visual projects. And I'm not talking about the storylines but rather how they tell the stories. This episode takes us all the way back to Age of Ultron when Wanda & Pietro talk about the flashing red light on a Stark munition, waiting for it to go off. It goes back to why Wanda and Pietro survived the Hydra experiments with the mind stone (Not enough people are talking about what we saw there). And it's all tied to chaos magic and the fact that Wanda is an untrained, natural witch with powers she (and no one else) understands. We have thoughts, theories and most importantly, a deep appreciation for whatever comes next. Honestly, we don't believe some of the most out there and wild theories but at the same time, we also don't put anything past Marvel either. So, we're preparing for anything in episode 9. To those worried that there's too much to wrap up in the last episode, remember, this is a comic book being told as a TV show. As long as the MCU is around, there is no end to this story, just the next chapter. We're really excited to see where this goes.

Well there you have it. It's been Agatha all along. Gotta love how Marvel has masterfully put together WandaVision. Even when you have a pretty good idea of what's coming, it's still rewarding to see how they pull it all together and reward both those that expect it and those that don't. Also even if you always thought that Agnes was Agatha Harkness, it's still pretty amazing to think that Marvel not only put Agatha Harkness in the MCU but is clearly going full witchcraft. Oh and if that wasn't enough, they don't slow roll Monica's powers and really go there. The only question now is if she's going to be called Photon or Spectrum. It's also looking like Wanda is subconsciously trying to use Monica to pull herself out. The minute it looked like Monica was making some progress, Agatha shows up and pulls Wanda away. Next episode gotta be Wanda & Monica vs Agatha and her familiar right? We have a lot to talk about this episode. Some of the things we discuss:
The commercials are really coming into more focus as being important. First the "Yo Magic" commercial might give some insight into what Agatha is up to along with the "Nexus" commercial this episode It doesn't seem like the book in Agatha's basement is the Darkhold or the Book of Cagliostro (the Book the Ancient One was using in Doctor Strange). We do have an idea of what book it is and it could be just as terrifying There's been a lot of Man-Thing references in the MCU and if they're really moving towards the Nexus of All Realities we're getting even more. If this is part of a long game to getting a Man-Thing movie/series...bravo The fact that this episode takes time to show use Acting Director Hayward being up to something lets us know it came be any good
Only two more episodes left. There's so many different directions this could go. All of them bad (in a good way) and we can't wait.

Shanna and Ro return to talk Batwoman and this time Hiroja's joining the fun.
In "Bat Girl Magic", Ryan tries to join the team and balance her Bat life with her real-life but her biggest obstacles are her parole officer and Luke's refusal to believe that Kate is dead. This actually works out because Kate isn't dead. After kidnapping Sophie and Alice, Safiyah reveals that she did blow up Kate's plane … but Kate wasn't on it.
Now that they're properly motivated, Alice and Sophie work together in "Fair Skin, Blue Eyes" to find a missing man, Ocean, whom Safiyah has been searching for. But their tenuous partnership falls apart when Sophie realizes Alice just wants Kate back to kill her once and for all. Meanwhile Ryan fights the Candy Lady, a woman who steals children who have been overlooked by society and funnels them into gangs. This leads to a deeper dive into Ryan's backstory and we meet one of her dangerous exes, Angelique. Seems like both Kate and Ryan have a weakness for killer women.

There are only three more episodes of WandaVision left. Allegedly. That's the funny thing about what Marvel has done with this show. Not only is the reality in the show in flux, but they've even made us question our own reality. Is there a secret 10th episode? We have no idea but the fact that we're even questioning it shows how much Marvel has us wrapped around their finger. That and the fact that all of us are still skimming through the end credits just in case they decided to throw something in. And we haven't even gotten into the actual show itself. This episode continues the tradition of answering a few questions while also causing more of them. Yes we know Wanda has created this reality and is in control of a lot of it but there's still the question of "How?" The why is pretty much answered. She's created this reality as a way to deal with suppressed trauma. But there's clearly more to it. It' also doesn't explain how she was able to bring Pietro back and why he looks different. Vision clearly doesn't remember his life before being in brought back. He doesn't know what an Avenger is or being part of that team. However, Pietro does remember part of his life before. Pietro actually seems way more aware of what Wanda is doing and pretty much approves of it. That adds to some questions as to the motivates behind Pietro's appearance. We're real interested in seeing what Darcy discovered about what Hayward was up to. She was able to email it to Agent Woo before Wanda expanded Westview so we should be able to finally learn what the Director was up to. He's clearly pushing an agenda here and its clear whatever he did directly led to Wanda's reaction.

Well things are escalating quickly on this show and we don’t just mean the ages of Tommy & Billy. Obviously the ending cameo will have a lot of people talking but we think that was just a way to distract from all the other things this latest episode of WandaVision dropped.
Acting Director Hayward definitely fucked up. He completely disregarded Vision’s Living Will and S.W.O.R.D had taken the remains of Vision apart. Wanda found out and lets just say she didn’t react well. Wanda clearly has a distrust and dislike of S.W.O.R.D but it seems like her anger is really directed at Hayward We’ve been pointing out that Agnes is different from everyone else for a while now but this episode really drives that home. Agnes is always there when Vision or Wanda need something and when she “breaks character” it’s not really fear. She seems very committed to keeping Wanda in this illusion. Deep down we think Agnes is Agatha Harkness but time will tell Wanda is definitely a villain here. The people she’s controlling are in pain while she keeps this illusion going. The question is how much of it is she doing on her own or is she being guided. Tommy & Billy are manifestations of Wanda but she also doesn’t seem to control them. But is that because she’s slowly losing control and her subconscious is doing it? Vision at least now knows something is going on but he doesn’t get the full picture. Wanda’s reaction to him when he says “You can’t control me like you control them” should have sent a chill down everyone’s spine. Let’s talk about that ending. There’s going to be a lot of talk about how “This is how they connect the Fox X-Men movies to the MCU” and we need to throw cold water on that. It’s honestly too small. It’s likely that we won’t see a lot of those previous Fox movies kept. Narratively this cameo makes sense because this episode takes place in the 80’s and Wanda (or someone who wants to keep Wanda focused on staying in the illusion) brought in the 80’s Pietro. Like we said last episode, this is really all leading to the Fantastic Four and really establishing Phase 4 as the multiverse phase. That doesn’t mean when Feige finally decides to do a X-Men film or series that it will directly tie to the Fox films. It’s still more likely that whatever Marvel Studios does with Deadpool 3 will have more indications on the direction of the X-Men because the Deadpool series is closer to the actual X-Men than the Fox X-Men movies ever were. Also, there’s been a recent change in the comics where Wanda and Pietro are no longer mutants or related to Magneto. They’ve always been more Avengers than X-Men and this might be the MCU reconciling that.
This has been a wild ride and we still have 4 episodes left. This has been an amazing first attempt at a series for the MCU and is really opening up the world. We’re able to finally fully explore the grief and hard life of Wanda and it’s even vindicating Age of Ultron (which we have a theory about that in our review). Strap in, cause the next 4 episodes are gonna be even crazier.

Look at that. See what happens when you trust the process that's been in place since the beginning of the MCU? Turns out that the first three episodes of WandaVision weren't slow but were perfectly paced and placed for the story being told. Episode 4 takes us outside of the illusion that Wanda has created and shows us how we got here (or at least partly). Things that we discuss:
Maria Rambeau helped found S.W.O.R.D. That means both S.H.I.E.L.D and S.W.O.R.D. were both cofounded by women in the MCU and that's pretty cool The timeline puts WandaVision happening about 3 weeks after the end of EndGame. That actually means this happened before Far From Home which makes the after credit scene of that movie hit different (With Nick Fury in space building a station with a bunch of Skrulls). The 5 year gap after the blip showed some people really did grow. Darcy is having a come up and Jimmy finally learned that card trick. Good for him We knew Wanda was behind a lot of this but the level at which she is doing it is really revealing the horror aspect of this show. Seems like Wanda is puppeting her dead boyfriend's body around in an illusion to make it seem like he's still alive. Speaking of Vision, we have a theory about how this all came to be and why Wanda seems to react so violently to seeing the logo of S.W.O.R.D. What if the acting Director of S.W.O.R.D. changed the name of the organization after they started experimenting on the remains of Vision and Wanda found out. It makes sense. Even though he was killed and the Mind stone was ripped from him by Thanos, S.W.O.R.D. may have been studying him to see if any remains of the stone were there. Wanda finds out after coming back and well...things didn't go well from there.
This was a great episode that answered some questions and presented so many more. It's safe to say that Marvel knows what they're doing here and their Disney+ shows are going to do a great job of world building for their next phase of movies. We can't wait.

There was no way the CW was going to introduce a Black Batwoman and we weren't going to talk about it. Shanna and Ro discuss the themes and storylines that have carried over from season one of Batwoman as Javicia Leslie takes over the role from Ruby Rose. Ryan Wilder (Leslie) dons the cowl after Kate Kane disappears in a suspicious plane crash. Though she grapples with her ability to pick up where Kate left off, Ryan, a former foster child and ex-con, joins the Bat Team to protect Gotham and fight back against the personal injustices she's endured. Javicia Leslie joins a strong supporting cast and the writers have taken care to find personal connections between Ryan and the characters we've come to know and love like Mary (Nicole Kang), Luke Fox (Camrus Johnson), and even Kate's nemesis, Alice (Rachel Skarsten). The first two episodes set up some interesting storylines and pull out some nuances that the show can delve into with a Black Batwoman at the forefront of this story. Join us every other week as we cover Batwoman season 2 and watch the show every Sunday at 8pm or the next day online via the CW app.

Yeah. Are you nervous yet? We said this last week but episode 3 of WandaVision is the one that really solidifies this creeping towards a horror show. While we're not 100% sure what's going on, its beginning to look like Wanda might be holding a whole town hostage in her fantasy. The question (or one of many) is how did all of this begin? Was this the plot of someone else that then got out of hand? Or did Wanda do all of this on her own? And what is S.W.O.R.D.'s role in all of this? Here are some things that caught our eye:
Wanda swings between having no control of her powers and having complete control. When she's fully into the illusion that is the sitcom her and Vision are living in, her powers seem to do things she's not trying to do. Like when she made the fake butterflies become real (which is frightening) or when she went into labor and her powers went haywire. But then there are times when its clear she's in control. Like the rough jump cut to restart the scene when Vision started trying to mention that things seemed off. Or when she sent Monica...I mean "Geraldine"...flying out of the town. The mention of Pietro and Ultron and particularly Wanda's reaction to hearing the name "Ultron" really drive home that Wanda is suffering from a lot of trauma. Also reminder that her husband's "dad" killed her brother. We said that nothing good comes from Wanda having twins but the way they're manifested this time are even worse. She goes through 9 months fo pregnancy in like 14 hours. And even then, she seems to just manifest Billy just her and Vision could both have kids with the names each wanted. One question we don't have an answer for yet is if Vision is real or just all in Wanda's head Clearly more attention should have been paid to what Wanda's powers really are. Considering they came from the mind stone, this all could really just be the tip of the iceberg.
Wanda is both in control and out of control and the more episodes we get the more things are sure to unravel. Also knowing this ties into the next Doctor Strange movie, we can't help but think there's no happy ending to this show. This episode peeled back a little bit more of the curtain and we can't wait for more to be revealed next episode.

The crew is back to discuss the last three episodes of Discovery, which we all agree were entertaining but not up to the standard Discovery set with its first two seasons. We don't appreciate them putting Owo in peril or making her the great savior, the Sphere was not used well at all, the source of The Burn seemed tacked on, and while we have wanted Burnham in the captain's chair, how she arrived to it was a disservice to her character and the show. We also discuss the transition from CBS All Access to the Paramount Network and other Star Trek industry news.

The first series from Marvel Studios on Disney+ is here and of course we have to add it to the Super Tuesday Recap rotation. WandaVision is different and weird (and scary if you know where they could possibly be going). The first two episodes dropped on Friday and honestly, they generate more questions than answers. On the surface the show has some really great homages to sitcoms from the 50's, 60's & 70's. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany seem to be having a blast with it. But just under the surface there are references and reveals that could have big impacts on the MCU. First of all, we've got ourselves a new agency (officially) to deal with. The S.W.O.R.D. (the Sentient Weapons Observation Response Department) is clearly playing a role in series. Also there are some interesting characters that pop up in some of the references (Go rewatch the animated opening to episode 2 again). Then there's just some of the things that we've all kinda forgotten. Like all of the trauma that Wanda has gone through since Age of Ultron. The fact that both Wanda and Vision are directly tied to the Mind Stone. Funny thing is, while we know she's really powerful, we don't really know what Wanda's real powers are. And in the first episode we watch her turn raw chicken into eggs. Then literally create life by making herself pregnant. We should all be very afraid. Listen as Kriss, Ro and Dpalm talk about these 2 episodes and try to connect some dots and hints that might give clues as to what the show is doing. We have lots of thoughts and honestly, can't wait to see what Feige and crew are really up to.

The Discovery crew returns! We discuss saying goodbye to our favorite sociopathic Empress, the search for Saru's catch phrase, and process how we are feeling about Star Trek returning to a potential episodic television series as opposed to an arc based series. It's a shift, for sure...but after two strong storytelling seasons it is a bit discombobulating for us. Great performances still remain, however, and we will be here for the long haul.

It's the end of the decade that's been the year 2020 and we're here with the final Mailbag of this long, rough year. The good news is that we're wrapping up on (mostly) a good note because the Disney Investor Day presentation gave us so much to be excited for from LucasFilms and Marvel. The next few years are going to bring us a lot of new Star Wars and it feels like they're following the Marvel method of telling these interconnecting stories using Disney+ shows. And on the Marvel side? Well we're getting:
Ironheart Armor Wars Secret Invasion Ms Marvel She-Hulk and so much more
We got trailers for Captain America...I mean The Falcon and The Winter Solider, Loki and What If? And on top of all that, the First Family is finally getting the Marvel Studios treatment. Fantastic Four is in development as a Marvel Studios property. Of course we couldn't get out of the year without more news from WB/DC. First, WB has gone full desperate and is putting their full 2021 slate of movies on HBO Max. We know its desperation because they didn't tell any of the exhibitors, partners or directors they were doing it. And some people are NOT happy about that. On the DC side, we have at least an ounce of a hint of some type of planning for their future. Here's the link to the interview DC Films President Walter Hamada did with the New York Times. It's an interesting piece that gives a little bit of hope (but also some worry) about the future of DC Films and if they can turn things around. The good news is, they seem to understand they need more collaboration. The bad news is, AT&T seems to be pushing really hard to force them to put things on HBO Max. But really, with all the stuff coming to Disney+ between Star Wars and Marvel, we can't leave 2020 upset at this point. What a time to be alive. She was season 1 episode 2 Burnham without the restraint of Vulcan ideals. But TILLY? On a ship with other more qualified, more seasoned, more titled people? We like Tilly but we owe Kriss an apology for his Captain Calamari jokes. We also discuss the possibility that Discovery may have hit its sophomore slump, because the show feels a bit adrift, as well as Sonequa's choice for whisper acting to convey gravity (spoiler: it doesn't work for us.). We also discuss the parallels between these episodes and Stephen King's short story The Running Man as well as the Bioware/Mass Effect references.

We really want to get through one month in 2020 without talking about "Zack Snyder's Justice League" but he just won't let us. Every time we get close to ending the month, he says something stupid. It's the end of October so it's time for another Mailbag episode. Kriss and Dpalm go through listener emails, hot topics and discuss their Pull-List for the month. We are back to wrap up our coverage of Star Trek Lower Decks. This irreverent addition to the franchise was a joy to watch from beginning to end. The Discovery Crew is back to review the premiere of Season 3, which finds Michael emerging in 930 years in the future. However, the Discovery is nowhere to be found, and she quickly has to adjust to life in a new world-one where the Federation no longer exists. We also meet Aditya Sahil, a character who is so adorable and sweet and must be protected at all costs, as well as Cleveland Book (David Ajala, Supergirl), who continues the tradition of Black holy men in science fiction having a name that includes the word Book in it. We also discuss the fandom and learning to just enjoy what you like without the need to explain it to others.

The Star Trek Crew is back to discuss episodes 3-6 of Lower Decks, reveling in the fact that the characters are very realistic and relatable. While we love the other Star Trek properties, the characters in those shows are more aspirational. These characters feel very real and grounded. Also, this show is BLOODY in a way we did not really see coming, giving us allegories on the dangers of abusing technology, the challenges with not paying attention to your relationships, and discussions around being okay with your station in life.
