In 2013, I decided that I was going to write a poem every day. The poem I am sharing does borrow familiar words from the greatest, Maya Angelou. Maya Angelou's poem Still I Rise hits themes about the struggle and difficulties of a black woman, and in the end, rising above it all with her focus determination. I come from a solid matriarchal social influence. They called my barely 5 feet tall, maybe a 120 lb great-grandmother "Big Mama" for a reason, and size wasn't it. This message is my message to the black women, those that have come before, and to the ones coming after me.
