Japhet De Oliveira | Senior Pastor Japhet De Oliveira will conclude the sermon series, Sinners, with a sermon titled “Wretched” and based on Romans 7:13–25. Pastor Japhet has served Boulder Adventist Church since 2014, arriving on January 2 after an icy drive across Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska. Japhet is a British subject and has been a U.S. resident since 2006 when he began working as chaplain at Andrews University in Michigan. His mother is from the French-speaking African island of Mauritius located in the Indian Ocean. His father is from the south of Brazil. Japhet can speak conversational Portuguese in emergencies and sometimes just for fun.
Japhet De Oliveira | Senior Pastor Japhet De Oliveira will continue the sermon series, Sinners, with a sermon titled “Fruit” and based on Romans 7:1–12. Pastor Japhet has served Boulder Adventist Church since 2014.He was born and raised in England, and he completed his undergraduate (theology) and graduate (religion) degrees at Newbold College, going on to serve as a pastor and conference youth director in England until 2006 when he was called to work as chaplain at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI. He has been a U.S. resident ever since! He is married to Becky and they have two sons, Joshua (18) and Jonah (14).
Jessyka Dooley | Associate Pastor Jessyka Albert will continue the sermon series, Sinners, with a sermon titled “Slaves” and based on Romans 6:15–23. Pastor Jessyka has served Boulder Adventist Church since 2016 and takes a leadership role in children’s ministry. She is a native of Washington State and a graduate of Union College in Lincoln, NE. Jessyka is engaged to Kiefer Dooley and they are planning an October 2018 wedding. This is a particularly special week for Pastor Jessyka as she will be baptizing Jalil and Rashid Lopez with whom she has been doing Bible studies for the past several months. Their mother, Juanis, will provide a piñata during Fellowship Lunch as a celebration!
Iki Taimi | Special guest speaker Iki Taimi will begin a new sermon series, Sinners, with a sermon titled “United” and based on Romans 6:1-14. Iki is the lead pastor at Gardena Genesis Community Church—a congregation that he planted in the Southern California Conference (SCC). He has a deep passion for young adults and creative ministries and serves as the SCC’s chairperson for Young Adult and Senior Youth Ministries and co-founded the secular collegiate min- istry C3. He is married to Melanie and they have two beautiful children, Mikayla and Lio. Iki loves people, food, and Jesus. Iki will also join the Open Word Connect Group which meets in the sanctuary at 11:00 a.m.
Japhet De Oliveira | This portion of scripture is about God’s anger at sin. We need to look at the totality of sinful behavior discussed here, not simply focus on the trigger texts.
Japhet De Oliveira | Through exploring the greeting, we find that the concept of a calling is something that we can all relate to. The idea of authority is also held within this text. This includes the authority of Paul, of the Gospel, and of Jesus.

Japhet De Oliveira | Senior pastor Japhet De Oliveira will preach a single stand-alone sermon titled “Our Reformation” and based on 2 Timothy 3:1-4:8. Pastor Japhet notes that, "Paul, at the end of his life, challenges the young Timothy to stay faithful at all cost. He challenges him to preach the Gospel that Jesus has life-transforming power. This is the true reformation. We can celebrate the Protestant Reformation by standing up and protesting against all the evil in the world—but this is only truly meaningful if we are continually being reformed inside.” Worship today will also include communion, giving us a fresh opportunity to reform our hearts in alliance with the will of God.
Japhet De Oliveira | A sermon on the controversial pushback by Jesus found in Matthew 5:21-28.
Mark Johnson | A fear-based focus on hell and salvation was common in the time of the Reformation and carried forward through the Great Awakening sermons of Jonathan Edwards and are still found in some "hellfire and brimstone" sermons today. Being saved from eternal torment is a major focus in reformation theology. Although being saved has always been present in Christian teachings, the Protestant sects have developed new ideas about "finding salvation," and the doctrine of salvation has grown in import and emphasis.
Clearly salvation (and escaping hell) is good news, but is it the Gospel?
Tom Eickmann | Matthew 6:33 says, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you." The sermon this week is on health. Most people probably think of food and clothing as the "all these things" since they are mentioned directly before verse 33. I believe peace (not being anxious - verses 25-34), joy (giving or laying up treasure in heaven), and health (what shall we eat, drink, wear?) are included in "these things shall be added unto you." Seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness will ted to bring with it a healthy lifestyle, along with joy and peace through focusing on what is important—Jesus.
