In this episode of The Athlete Welfare Podcast, I had the privilege of hosting Michael McFarlane of Bangkok Prep and World Rugby.

Throughout this conversation, we hear how Michael's experiences have created who he ultimately is today. From moving countries, changing roles, and adapting life-focuses, Michael's perspectives have definitely shifted.

In Michael's opinion, a reaction is everything, the best culture is led by the individuals to move in the same direction, and as a coach you must have a deep understanding and knowledge of the individuals to secure their welfare, whether that is physically, mentally, intellectually or spiritually.

I particularly enjoyed delving into appreciation and trust, micro-leadership contributing to a safe culture revolving around positive control, and how this allows for the chance for everyone to express their expertise, feelings and beliefs.

However, from a coach perspective, my main take-home was that "one should be clinical, but not 100% relentless, one should enjoy success."

I hope you all enjoy todays conversation,
