In this episode of The Athlete Welfare Podcast, I have an incredible discussion with Kate Macgregor regarding her experiences as both a professional athlete and coach within Sailing for Great Britain.

It was powerful to delve into the processes of psychological interventions such as breathing techniques in order to control the pressures.

External factors are seen regularly within Sailing, and due to the inability to escape the environment during competition, to switch off and not think about the future, understanding yourself, being level-headed and focusing on the psychological aspects of your performance is imperative.

It was particularly interesting to delve into values, and for Kate, performance values are important, but welfare values that are the architect for relationships and rapport are inevitable for success. Kate touched base on her experiences within elite sport, but also in event management, where she notices her fundamentals and values are transferable within, and struggles with working in environments where there is a lack of values in which personnel adhere to as there is a lack of collective identity, disciples, expectations and it ends up making you feel 'lost'.

I hope you all enjoy todays conversation.
