After more than 3 decades as Senior Pastor at LCBC, David is getting ready to transition that leadership role to the next pastor. Along the way, he has learned many lessons on what it takes to build a church that’s built to last. So what decisions can we make a positive impact in the future?
We all have convictions and opinions that drive us to make decisions that guide our life. But we often struggle to know how to balance our convictions with compassion for others with differing opinions. So how do we rise above the tension to love each other the way Jesus calls us to?
There are a number of ways people will determine what is “right” and what is “wrong”. As followers of Jesus the question is - will we make our decisions based on faithfulness to God, or in fear of others? The answer is often found in what is most important to us.

The end is only the beginning.
For many of us, even once we put our faith in Christ our past still comes back and haunts us. Fears creep back in and keep us from stepping out in obedience to God. The only way to let go of our baggage is to fix our eyes on Jesus.

When our backs are against the wall, we need to hear from God and be reminded of his love for us. By putting ourselves in a position to hear from God, it allows him to speak and be present in our lives.
When our backs are against the wall we can feel alone or even question if God cares about our situation. But God cares and is closer than you can imagine.
What do you do when your back's against the wall? David shares in Psalms a 4-step process to move from our backs against the wall to where we are connecting deeply with God.

The Bible is filled with promises from God, but it also has many cries of sorrow and doubt. If we’re not careful, we find ourselves placing our hope in an outcome, rather than anchoring our faith in the unchanging character of God.
Some of us feel betrayed by God when we face hardships, but the reality is that God never promised that we wouldn’t experience pain and difficulty on earth. Instead, he promised to be with us and give us peace beyond understanding.

God didn't intend for us to feel alone, anxious, or forgotten Because of Jesus we are free, loved, known, wanted and chosen.
When our lives feel heavy and chaotic, God can seem distant. But he understands our situations and can do so much more with our circumstances than we think is possible. Sometimes the best way to be reminded of who God is and his power is through music.
We all have messes in our lives. Whether it's saying the wrong words, making the wrong choices or doing the wrong things. But Jesus doesn't run from our messes. Instead, he embraces us in the midst of our mess and is strong enough to lead us out of it.
Life doesn't always go the way we plan. When we faces unexpected challenges, tragedies, and opposition, it's easy to wonder where God is. But God can turn the most difficult moments in our lives into something beautiful.
God is actively working in the world around us and uses each of us to bring good about in this world. Sometimes we feel like we don't have the resources to be a part of his work, but the greatest ways God shows up is when we open our hands.
We all want to have great relationships, but sometimes the most challenging relationships are the ones with the people closest to us - our family. Discover Dr. Gary Chapman's 5 signs of a healthy family to make the most of these relationships.

When life gets busy and complicated, we can lose connection with God. But developing the habit of reading the bible will draw you closer to God and help you navigate life.
Facing difficult moments in our lives are inevitable, and while we can't always choose to avoid these storms, we can choose how we respond in them.

When we're wronged, our first response is an eye for an eye - but Jesus' first response looks different. When it comes to how we respond to insults, injustice, and inconvenience, whose kingdom are we choosing to build?
What Jesus had to say on these three issues was far more than "don't." Dive into the context around his instructions on lust, divorce, and lying in the Sermon on the Mount.
It feels like anger is out of control everywhere we look in our society today - from cursing to contempt. What Jesus has to say about anger has more to do with our hearts than our emotions. It's time to surrender the win and follow your king.
Rules and regulations, political unrest, a global pandemic - in our world today it can feel more natural to take sides than turn the other cheek. But if Jesus were here, he'd have clear instructions on how we should be reacting as his followers...and what he preached on the subject may surprise you.

Life and relationships will always be complex - but there's a way we can keep them from being harder than they have to be. When we choose to seek God first, everyone wins.
What does your priority list look like when it comes to money? Most of us would say we live with financial stress - but if we're willing to trust God with what we're given, we can reframe our outlook on money and rethink how we spend, save, and give.
When it comes to relationships, sometimes we have to step back and look at ourselves before we step into making ours better. Taking the time to check ourselves with Jesus can make all the difference in rethinking our relationships.
We’ve all experienced the gap between our good intentions and the decisions we make. The key to changing our behavior is to change our cravings - and to do that, we have to start with changing our heart.
If we’re ready to re-think our life and experience real change, we have to be willing to take real steps towards that change. So where do we start? By following.
Deciding to change is the simple part - the real challenge comes when we try to act on it. We can avoid getting held back by the opposition of change when we know what to expect. Are you ready?
Life change is possible when we are born again through Jesus. We cannot change ourselves instead we should let go and let God transform us by staying close to Jesus.
Join us for a special Church Online experience this weekend with special guest, Paul Baloche - writer of LCBC's favorite worship songs over the years such as “Open the Eyes of My Heart”, “Above All”, “Hosanna”, “Your Name”, and many others!
It’s been quite a year. 2020 has dealt us more than our fair share of dark days. So this Christmas let’s come together online to pause and remember that we have a hope that rises above. We look forward to seeing you online!
When it comes to following Jesus there are three simple steps-admit, believe and confess. Jesus is the only way to God in Heaven and He welcomes us to come as we are.
We all have a perception of what we believe Heaven will be like. How does our view of eternity align with what God had revealed to us through his Word?
Many of us have made the mistake of becoming settlers- living like citizens of this world instead of heaven. When we follow Jesus our focus is no longer on our troubles but living like eternity matters.
There's a difference between being religious and being a life changed by Christ—and it comes from being born again. This weekend we celebrated 117 people who went public with their decision to put their trust in Jesus!
Lost people matter to God and what matters to God ought to matter to us. What does it mean to be a church that focuses on others rather than ourselves?
Jesus gives the gift that brings life back into balance- a refresh button. Taking time to pause and worship in the presence of God is exactly what we need in this season.
Jesus calls us to lower ourselves to lift others up. Just as Jesus has shown us extravagant love- we can show this kind of extravagant love to others.
When we follow Jesus our spirit fundamentally changes and we are given a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline. It’s hard for our fears to have roots when Jesus is rooted in us. What does it look like to show Jesus’s love and lay down our lives for the sake of others?
What does it look like to love one other the way that Jesus loves us? Jesus's love requires us to do the uncommon and become bridge builders, share each others burdens, sympathize with one another, and forgive and extend grace.
If we keep God's truth at the core of our identity, unity and honor will follow. As followers of Jesus, everything we do represents him. Let's choose to listen, learn, and love one another.
Today’s culture reinforces us to show love to only those in our in-group. But as followers of Jesus, we’re never called to do the common thing. The Bible teaches us that we are to treat everyone with honor. It’s time to change the script.
Guilt Is the warning light that signals us that something needs corrected. When we see it as a gift we can take steps to grace and freedom.
Life isn’t measured by how much we own - but the enemy of greed creeps in when the appetite for more is never satisfied. What if we changed our perspective and chose to be managers of our resources instead of owners?
The truth about jealousy is that it's not a problem that we have with others - it's a problem between us and God. We know we aren't the scriptwriters of our lives, so how can we partner with God to find joy instead of jealousy?
Dealing with anger is a normal part of life—but when it begins to take over our hearts and plague our lives, we have to make the conscious decision to cancel the debts against us and choose forgiveness.
No one is perfect—so when it comes to real life change, where do we start? The answer is with a new heart. Join us as we celebrate stories of life change through Baptism and start talking about how to check our hearts.
Looking around our world today, it's easy to focus on the unknown, the negative, and the divisive. But when we choose to focus on Jesus, we begin to look more like him. What if the best thing we could do in times of uncertainty is fix our focus?
So many times in our lives, we want the payoff without the patience. But achieving our goals starts with moving inches—not miles. Are the habits you've developed working for or against you?
During uncertain times, we can find ourselves experiencing decision fatigue. Using four common disciplines that followers of Jesus have practiced over the years, we can discover the rest he provides.
Whether it's social media feeds, parenting styles, careers, relationships, or finances, we fall into the comparison trap every time we compare our situation to someone else's. But when you rely on what God's given you, you'll find that you have every resource to make a difference right where you are.
Even after unpredictable and stressful seasons, we can use what we've learned to benefit our future and the future of others. But the difference between knowledge and wisdom means deciding when what we've learned turns into what we can do.
The many names of God describe the depth of his character to us—but one is used more frequently than all the others—and it encompasses everything that we can trust him to be.
We often think about how the expansiveness of God—but as big as he is, our God is also personal and intimate, and he sees us, no matter where we are.
When we’re standing at the bottom of the mountain of reconciliation, it can seem impossible to actually overcome it. But we have a God whose strength and power can overcome any situation, and with his help we can take steps to look at ourselves start climbing.
We live in an Us vs. Them culture, where we're told we have to choose a side and choose an enemy. But the truth is, when it comes to any topic, there is always a third option. Join special guest Pastor Miles McPherson as he shares his heart and knowledge on division and how we can be more like Jesus.

God has many names that he's given himself to show us who he is—and when we lean into understanding them, we can lean into the truth of what they mean for us when we endure hard situations. Whatever you're facing today, are you focusing on the mess, or are you focusing on your Creator?
When we're faced with troubles in life, it's not usually our first thought to consider them pure joy. But the truth is that Jesus came to give us freedom, not make our lives trouble-free. And when we change our perspective on happiness, it can change the way we look at our circumstances.
We may have been told that following Jesus brings a trouble-free life—but the truth is that Jesus told us we would face trials and sorrows even after following him. But the good news is that God is in the business of making something good out of a bad situation.
Guilt and shame can hang over our heads and weigh heavily on our hearts. But the truth is that when Jesus looks at us, he doesn't see our mistakes and regrets—he sees another opportunity to delight in us.
What does it mean about our faith if we have doubts, questions, and uncertainties—and what does Jesus really think about us not having it all together?
The things that make us angry reveal the things that we care about the most—and the same is true of Jesus. He didn’t create us just to keep his rules, he created us to demonstrate his love to others and live with compassion, not just religious conviction.
Which lie is easiest for you to believe about Jesus: he’s angry, he’s too loving to let anything bad happen, or he’s passive and disengaged in our lives? The truth is that Jesus knows what it’s like to be where we are. So what does that mean for us?
In times of uncertainty, everyone is searching for truth. This Easter, we're exploring it together.
All of us have asked the question, "Why is this happening to me?" in the middle of a detour. But what if we changed our question to, "What will this change in me?"
In the midst of a crisis, we can feel like everything that's going wrong around us is personal, pervasive, and permanent. But the truth is that God can be trusted—even when his ways don't make sense to us. Are you ready to choose to trust?
When we're in a detour, the world around us can feel loud. But God does some of his best work in the middle detours...if we're willing to listen.
"In confusing detours, scary detours, or life-altering detours, it can be easy to wonder, "Where is God?" But the motivation of a good shepherd is always for the good of the sheep. And even in the midst of the unknown, we can look beside us and see that God is always close, and he is always good."
The choices we make today will show up in our experiences tomorrow. Are you aware of the story you're writing for yourself?
Sometimes the detours we face are completely out of our control—pivotal circumstances that might cause us to question what God is doing. But the truth is that he isn't doing something to us...he's doing something in us.
We can't control whether or not we face detours in life—but we can control how we face them. If we want to detour well, we have to seek out wisdom and cling to what matters most.
We see detours as an inconvenience—but what if they were really an invitation? When we start asking God WHAT he wants to do in us rather than WHY he's doing something to us, we'll start to see that character can be built through the unexpected changes of direction.
As we wrap up our Winning At Relationships series, we're focusing on six words that can make all the difference for us—no matter who we are, what we've done, or how we think God's love applies to us.
Whether you consider yourself a hugger or not, the way touch affects our relationships is more important than we may realize. And the boundaries we set for ourselves can make all the difference.
Commitment is the bond that will pull a relationship through when all other bonds are depleted. Where do your most important relationships stand when it comes to commitment?
We never want to rely on someone who will let us down, but how do we know when it's the right time to start relying on another person?
When it comes to our most important relationships, trust is a big deal. But how do we know when to give it, when to extend it, and when we just don't know enough to make the decision yet?
There are five bonds that affect every type of relationship—from parents, to roommates, to significant others. We're diving into what it looks like to KNOW another person, and keep knowing them, in a way that benefits the relationship between you for the long run.
We all have regrets—but once we acknowledge them, how do we move forward from them? We're stepping into the new year with some practical ways to combat regret.
Anxiety is the most common mood disorder out there—so how do we combat the burden of carrying it around with us?
Relationships influence our lives in a huge way—and if we want to live the remarkable life that God wants for us, we have to learn to navigate them well. Join us for a sneak peek into our 2020 focus as a church on winning at relationships!
Join us in celebrating over 180 people who decided to go all in by sharing their story through Baptism!
We know we're called to love others, and it can be discouraging when we don't see our compassion making a difference. But big crops always start with small seeds—and we're in the seed planting business.
Why are we here? When we’re bogged down by slacktivism, we can start to forget our purpose. But when we know why we’re here, we can start to live with intentionality.
When it comes to serving others, God didn’t just tell us how to do it well—he showed us. It’s time to start seeing love as a verb.
Our society wants to see change, but we aren’t always working to make it happen. As a follower of Jesus, we have an even greater reason to fight slacktivism—and increase our capacity for compassion.
Insecurity around finances can be the biggest thief of peace in our lives. But God has given us an opportunity to demonstrate our trust in him...if we're willing to put him to the test.
We don't have to wait until our time runs out to realize the brevity of life. Living with wisdom today means we don't have to live with regret tomorrow. What choices do we need to make to give our valuable time to what matters most?
If we're serious about finding breathing room, we have to start choosing discipline. Are you ready to put in the work?
When our lives are filled to the brim it can be tempting to wear "Busy" like a badge of honor. But God knows the importance of margin for our physical, emotional, and spiritual health. It's time to pencil in some breathing room.
We live in a world of labels—those that others give us and those that we give ourselves. But the only labels that really define us are the ones that God gives us. Are you willing to embrace what Jesus says about you?
Some of us feel unqualified because of what we've done, but some feel unqualified because of what we've missed. When we get bogged down by the "thens" or "whens" in our lives, we leave no room for God to work in our NOW. Are you choosing to be faithful in the moment you're in?
When we think of all the ways we've failed, it can be overwhelming. Our first instinct is usually to give up or try harder. But God is not in love with a future version of us—and the first step towards real transformation is a real relationship with him.
We all have parts of our past that affect our future. But if the lineage of Jesus teaches us anything, it's that God uses imperfect people to do incredible things.
As followers of Jesus, we are called to invest in the lives of others and invite them along with us to experience a relationship with him. If we want to share the remarkable life that God has called us to, we have to own that opportunity. Are you ready to invest and invite?
If we don't own the undertow of our selfishness, it will own us. When we decide to put others before ourselves and serve them, it not only grows us, but keeps us in line with the fruit of the Spirit—and further away from sin.
For most of us, showing up at church has become more of a task than an opportunity to spend time with God. But when we realize how to refresh our time with God, we can take advantage of the chance we have to show up regularly, repeatedly, and engaged.
If we want to keep our life moving in the right direction, we have to be intentional about who we invite into our circles. When is the last time you evaluated the relationships in your life?
There's a difference between being religious and being a life changed by Christ—and it comes from being born again. We celebrated 151 people who went public with their decision to put their trust in Jesus this weekend!
When Jesus told us to love others, he meant everyone - even those who have hurt us. How can we release others of their debts and choose to forgive them?
When we're distracted by our own lives and our own wants, we can miss why God placed us where he did in our own neighborhood. How can we really start loving others with no strings attached?
Jesus tells us to love others. But there's a difference between knowing we should love people and actually loving them—and the difference might start right in our own homes.
It can be hard to find the time to even speak to our neighbors, much less love them. But when we learn to slow down and allow ourselves to be interrupted, we create an opportunity to be a good neighbor just by being home.
When we hear the command to love God and love people, it sounds easy. Love those who love us, who are easy to love, who deserve our love. But what if the call to love our neighbor wasn't just a nice idea...but a way of life?
In our lowest moments, it can be hard to see God's providence. But when we choose to trust God's heart even when we can't see his hand, we give ourselves the opportunity to come out of those moments better than we were before. Are you willing to learn from the lows?
It’s hard to believe God has a plan when our lives are spiraling out of control or we’ve hit rock bottom. But what if he uses our circumstances to fuel a sense of purpose and passion for us in the future? Furthermore, what if God has placed us in a unique position to spark purpose and hope in someone else’s life, to change the trajectory of their future?
When we're in the space between what we hope God will do and what he actually does, it can be easy to fall into fear and anxiety. But our God has a plan–and the meantime is when we can lean on what we know is true about his plan for us.
When God blesses us in our lives, it isn't just for our benefit. Too often we choose to put self-preservation ahead of God's plan for us—but what would he be able to do through us if we realized it isn't all about us? Join us as we learn more about the story of Esther and the concept of providence.
When we're in the middle of the mess, it's hard to imagine that God is still working. But the truth is that he has positioned us right where we are today—and when we trust that there is a good plan, we can trust that God's providence will work through it.
When things in our lives aren't going as planned, we ask two questions: "Why?" and "Where is God?" But when we learn to value God's providence over our preferences, we can start to see the truth in what he has for us over what we want for ourselves. It may be Friday in your world, but Sunday is coming.
Shame strikes at our identity and makes us question who we are. But God has already told us the truth—if we're in Christ, we are chosen, purchased, free, and forgiven. Are you willing to accept the grace you've been offered?
The story behind Baptism looks a lot like a story of rescue. Celebrate with us as we hear the stories of what God is doing in the lives and hearts of the people in our communities on Baptism Weekend at LCBC.
God can do amazing things through our lives when we decide to trust him. Join us in celebrating what he's already doing in the lives of over 11,000 of us who went through Financial Peace University!
When we're stuck in our shame, we begin believing the story we tell about ourselves, even if it's not the truth. But Jesus has the antidote to shame—his grace. And when we share our shame, we learn to live un-stuck.
Shame can make us believe the lie that what we're labeled as defines who we are. But the truth about who we are rests in what God says about us. Are you ready to get a new label?
We've all experienced shame in our lives. But the reality is that God isn't the one keeping us in the shame cycle—we are. And when we fully realize that he isn't mad at us, we can accept that he's madly in love with us.
For some of us, prayer feels transactional—we ask when we want something, and when we don't get it, we think there must be something wrong with God or something wrong with us. But what if there was a change in perspective that could actually bring us closer to God, and give us the opportunity to let him change our character, not just our circumstances?
When we approach God, we don't have to have it all together—or scripted out. Jesus gives us all we need to communicate with God in 46 words. What can happen if we decide to invite the most powerful force in the universe into everything that we do?
Have you ever realized that who you want to be is far off from who you are? The moments of temptation in our lives can leave us the most vulnerable to pulling away from God. But in reality, those are the moments he's the closest to us. Are you listening close enough to hear him?
When do you pray—is it when you want something, when you're lost, or just in emergencies? We have the amazing opportunity to be able to talk to God in every situation, and when we remember the access we have to him through Jesus, it makes all the difference.
Thinking about talking to God can feel intimidating. But the truth is, we have direct access to a God who loves us no matter what—all we have to do is reach out.
Even though we can't predict the future, we can prepare for it. And part of preparing means taking the practical steps so that we're ready when the unexpected happens. Winter is coming—are you ready for it?
We can stumble into the mess of our financial situation, but we can't stumble out of it. When we're intentional about our plan to manage our money wisely, we can start going after the life God wants for us.
We all want to live a life that is full. But what if we're keeping ourselves from experiencing that life in the way we handle our finances? When we look at money God's way, we can start to understand how to have a life that is abundant—even beyond our finances.
Financial expert and advisor Dave Ramsey joins us to kick off our Set For Life series and talk about what it means to have wisdom when it comes to money.
It's so easy to lose focus in our lives to shame, anxiety, anger, achievement, or anything else that may distract us. But we know that where we're focused is where we'll go in life, and when we focus on Jesus, we're focused on the truth about who we are. Where have you been focused this year?
We love doing life together at LCBC—and Christmas is no exception. Join us for a warm celebration and a welcoming place to belong this Christmas!

When it comes to life choices, we can put things in two categories: "Major Decisions" and "Stuff That Doesn't Matter." But the truth is that there are no neutral decisions in our lives. If we want to start living wisely, we have to choose between what we want now and what we want most.

What’s the definition of faith? Just believing is a nice idea, but it won’t get us where we need to be. If we’re going to experience real faith, we have to be willing to take the leap.

We all have secrets in our lives that are less than ideal. But the longer we hide them, the more they hurt us. And if we ever want to experience healing, we have to own them, admit them, and stop them.
It’s easy to trust God when things are going well. But the real challenge comes when we find ourselves in situations that test our faith. Can we still trust God when our circumstances cause us to doubt?
What do we do when God doesn’t meet our expectations? When God is telling us something but we don’t have all the details, we can feel pressure to take matters into our own hands. But God’s plan for us is greater than any plan we can create for ourselves—if we’re willing to fix our eyes on him.
When it comes to being perfect, we know that we’ll never get there. But we can make the mistake of thinking we’re qualified to judge others—even when we’re not. And the only person qualified to condemn us has chosen to love us instead.
Our world can be a rough place. But in the darkest moments, we are closer to the light than we think. In our hardest moments, we don’t just need someone special—we need a savior.
There’s a myth out there that says you have to have it all together to be a follower of Jesus, but the truth is just the opposite: following Jesus isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being on the right side of the atonement plan. Jesus came to pay for our imperfections so we don’t have to—and close the gap between what we deserve and what we receive.
We are all on a journey that’s influenced by the circumstances we’re in, the choices we make, and the people we know. But there’s one more factor that determines the direction of our lives. Join us as we celebrate the 171 people who have chosen to go “all in” as a follower of Jesus this weekend!
We’ve heard that 1,000 small steps in the right direction can lead us to a remarkable life, but the same is true of the opposite—if we’re not careful, our private choices can lead to public collapses. But what if there’s a way to avoid collapsing...if we’re willing to do the work?
We all want to be remarkable people. But there’s one aspect of being remarkable that we often overlook: the people we surround ourselves with. The truth is, we can’t do remarkable alone—and in order to keep those around who make us the best we can be, we have to be willing to do the work.
We all want to build a remarkable life, but there’s more to getting success than just wanting it. When we commit to doing the same small things over and over again, we can work towards the lasting impact that comes with it. Are you willing to do the work?
For the start of our Do the Work series, we look back at an interview with former Olympic athlete Scott Hamilton. After living with a series of health issues, professional ice skater Scott Hamilton shares how overcoming personal obstacles in his life led him to know and trust Jesus.
Are you and your spouse soulmates or just roommates? When it comes to marriage, there are six ways to know your spouse in a way that makes them feel seen and safe, and one way that makes the two of you one.
We all deal with conflict in our relationships. But what if it’s not about if we fight, but how we fight? When we learn to fight fair, we can fight for a resolution instead of a victory. Are you ready to fight for your marriage?
Men and women are created differently. Our wants and needs from our spouse don’t always line up—but the bottom line is the same: we all want to be loved. How can we be sure we’re giving our partner what they need to feel successful in our marriage?
It’s easy to be happy in our marriage when the feelings are fresh. But what do we do when the feelings fade? We all have a choice when it comes to how we view our relationships. Will you choose the habit of happiness?
There are three sides of love that make up what we define as the key to a happy marriage. But how do we balance each side and make sure we’re thriving in our marriage—not just surviving?
Whether we believe it or not, we all have expectations when it comes to marriage. But what if what we expect is actually hindering us from getting what we need out of our relationship with our spouse? When we debunk the biggest myths about marriage, we can start to see why the truth about marriage means more than what we hope to get out of it.
When our lives are running smoothly, it’s easy to show respect to those around us. But in stressful situations, it gets tougher to keep our attitudes in check. When we hit our personal Red Zones, those affected the most are often the people closest to us. How can we make sure we’re keeping an eye on what we take in and what we weed out—and what that means when it comes to how we respect others?

We each have an invisible line of standards that we create for other people, and when they don’t measure up, our respect for them lowers. But Jesus called his followers to honor everyone, no matter what we think our standards are. If we’re focused on outdoing each other in the way we honor others, we’ll never lose the honor competition.

The interactions we have with others can turn quickly from conversation to confrontation. It can be easy to argue our positions, but Jesus calls us to care more about the people than our points. When we’re living in harmony, it means we’re acting in love above all else.

It’s hard to find consistent examples of respect in our world today. Respect can be conditional, it can be insincere, and it can be nonexistent. But Jesus calls us to respect everyone—all the time. If we’re representing Jesus, we need to look at the world through His eyes, and follow His command to respect and value every person in His world.

As followers of Jesus, we are instructed to be rich with our resources, and more specifically, to share the resources we’ve been given with those who need it the most—the fatherless. God is the protector and father of all who are fatherless, including the children experiencing poverty in their everyday lives. When we commit to sharing our resources with children in need, we are committing to being a light in their lives that shows them God’s love through our willingness to love.

We’re all familiar with temptation, but do we really understand what’s at stake when we find ourselves in the midst of it? When we find ourselves prone to anxiety and anguish, we identify with the lies more than the truth. But God is in our corner, and when we take small, righteous steps, we can know that we are inside of his will. And when we put on the full armour of God, we can be prepared for the battle.

When the stakes are high, so are the remedies. We may look at some of what God does and wonder why—but the truth is that the stakes of our sin require remedies that we won’t always understand. It can be hard to see something new in what you’ve been familiar with for a long time, but the way we see security vs. opportunity holds more weight than we may think. What’s the truth about sex? God’s desire for us is not to run away from sex, but to run towards something greater—a vision of marriage filled with safety and security in intimacy. When we say no to fleeting in-the-moment choices and yes to what God intended sex to be, we’re making a decision that will impact our future for the better.
We all have tools at our fingertips that we can use to live the best life possible—including the tool of discipline. When we set our goals high and understand our full potential, we can begin to use discipline to analyze and make the critical choices in our lives. Practicing discipline and following what Proverbs teaches us will lead to a life that works well and showcases God’s desire for us.

We have an insatiable desire for words, and our words have a tremendous impact on those around us. Speech is the second most talked about subject in the book of Proverbs. If our words have the power of life and death, then the wisest thing we can do is to allow God to speak into how we speak.

Are we making wise choices? The book of Proverbs gives us an opportunity to learn from the wisdom of others and understand the truth about what living wisely really means. When we make the wise choice to follow God, we’re setting ourselves up for a life of success with him by our side.
Baptism is the opportunity to proclaim that you are “all in” as a follower of Christ. We had 133 people across nine campuses make that claim this weekend—and we are so excited to celebrate with them!
God doesn’t just call us back—he buys us back. Even in our unfaithfulness and betrayal, just like Hosea buys back Gomer, our God loves us enough to pay a ransom for us. We are adopted into God’s family, forgiven of our sins, and gifted with eternal life through him.
The story of Hosea shows us how God responds to the messes we create for ourselves. When we reject God and follow our own path, we often find ourselves in deeper trouble than we even thought possible. But when we choose to follow him—and to be made new in his image—he will make us new creation.
When it comes to our relationship with God, we often think about it the way we think about our own relationships. But God is different than us—he loves even when he’s been hurt, and he never gives up even when we’ve turned away from him. But God isn’t looking for only part of our heart—he wants it all, and he’s devising a plan to bring us back to him.
One of the most powerful ways God can show us his truth is through his people. The story of Hosea tells the story of our relationship with God—how he chases after us time after time, even when we’re unfaithful to him. As we unpack the truth in the book of Hosea, we’ll learn that God’s love for us is bigger than our actions, and his promise to us stretches further than we can ever run.
There are many examples that Jesus gave us to live the best life—but he values two equally above the rest: love God and love others. Every decision we make, every word we say, every step we walk, we are called to do in love. And when we're loving like Jesus, we are showing him to the world.
As a church, one of our core values is making a difference on a global scale—how can we an impact where it’s needed most? Richard Stearns, President of World Vision, speaks to us on how coming together in a small way can lead to making a big difference.
Nationally recognized leader and Global Leadership Summit speaker Wayne Cordeiro speaks to us about the best ways to gain wisdom from God’s Word, our personal experiences, and the experiences of others.
To fully understand the importance of boundaries, we have to understand where they came from. If God hard-wired us with an emotional check engine light, it’s our responsibility to know when to address our boundary issues. When we learn that God cares more about our purpose than our performance, we can begin to fully be who he created us to be.
We all know that more often than not, the lives we’re living are a product of our behavior and the decisions we’ve made. So why is it so hard for us to let others face the consequence of their actions? When we realize the boundaries we set in our relationships with others means loving them through consequences, we can let them live the best life and learn from the decisions they make.
Boundaries define what is okay and what is not okay—but how do we know how to set boundaries that make the most impact in our lives? When we realize boundaries lead to growth in relationships instead of tension, we can begin to understand what they can do to empower us to live the life God has called us to live.
We've all made bad decisions in the middle of tough situations. It often takes hitting rock bottom before we even try to ask for help. But when we know the truth about what God has done for us, we can live knowing that his plan is bigger than what we know—and when we accept the good news, we can start living it.
Communion is our opportunity as a community to remember what Jesus did for us. When we take the steps forward to lay our burdens at the foot of the cross, we can live in the truth that we are God’s masterpiece.
Baptism is the opportunity to proclaim that you are “all in” as a follower of Christ. We had 189 people across nine campuses make that claim this weekend—and we are so excited to celebrate with them! To learn more about Baptism, visit lcbcchurch.com/baptism
If we aren’t intentional about how we follow Jesus, our internal struggles can hold us back. When we’re called into scary situations, we can have confidence that God is with us—and faith to begin following him again like it’s the first time.
We all have scars. But the most painful scars we hold are the ones that no one sees. Following Jesus through our pain means understanding that our pain may not be relieved—but it will be redeemed. And when we own and offer it to God, he can use it for purposes greater than we can imagine.
It’s easy to say we want to change…but where is the line between waiting for change and working for it? If we’re in Christ, grace has covered it all. But if we’re making destructive choices, we’re forfeiting the life God intended for us. In order to find true transformation through Jesus, we have to meet him at the intersection of God’s grace and our grit.
We know that being a Christian means more than just believing in Jesus. But what happens when our passion for our faith burns out? The life that Jesus invites us into cannot be experienced if we keep him on a shelf—and when we realize that following him is the difference between easy and best, we can accept his invitation and begin living the way he meant for us to live.
There are two additional voices that speak into the crucial conversations we have with ourselves—so how do we know when God is really speaking to us…and when he’s not? When we’re listening for God’s nudges, we can be sure it’s his voice when we put it to the test. And when we make God a part of all of our crucial conversations, we can respond to his voice in every decision we make.
The conversations we have with ourselves are often the most important ones. So why do we end up making the worst decisions when the stakes are the highest? If we commit to telling ourselves the whole story—without omitting the facts—we can commit to living the best life God has to offer us.
We were all made with a unique purpose—and a unique shape. Our spiritual gifts, heart, natural abilities, personality, and experiences all make up how we’re shaped to serve. God gave us everything we need to fight for others in the way we’re designed, and when we discover our shape, we can begin use who we are to fulfill our purpose and make our contribution.
We each have an individual purpose, but our greater purpose as followers of Christ is to share our story of life change with the world. When we realize that our journey is not an accident, we can begin to understand that the loudest story we will ever tell is the way we live—and the greatest tool God has given us is our ability to share it.
We have the tendency to make things more complicated than they need to be—including following Jesus. When it comes to suffering, it’s hard to understand the reason behind the pain. But God is more interested in our growth than our comfort, and the investment we make in our suffering is one that we’ll see a return on for eternity.
Part of God’s purpose for us is to participate in his family. When we realize that church is not a place we go, but a family we belong to, we can start to realize our purpose on a deeper level. And when we connect as a family, we can own the mission Jesus created for us.
We all want to know why we’re here. When we realize why we’re valuable to God—what he has called us to do—we can live with a purpose that goes beyond ourselves. We were born with a plan in mind and a gift all our own…and when we understand our calling, we can begin to live with the confidence we need to fulfill it.
No one wants to feel like they’re just drifting through life. Living with intentionality means making the most of every opportunity we’re given—and living with the discipline to be all that God wants us to be. Because when we realize that we’re not here by accident, we can start to discover just how meaningful our lives can be.
The new year is a time to restart and make corrections in our lives. But the first step to change is admitting that we’re wrong. To repent is to change direction, and when we realize that Jesus has come for those who know they’re wrong, we can accept the exchange of his perfection for our imperfection.
Life is messy. We try our best to do the right thing, but sometimes the decisions we make leave us elbow deep in our good intentions. This Christmas at LCBC, we'll be talking about what it looks like when we can't get ourselves clean on our own…and what it means when God shows up in the middle of our mess.
God sent his son to this earth to bring us peace. So why do we find ourselves asking for it every chance we get? Jesus provides us with the kind of peace we can rely on despite what we’re going through—his presence is the promise. And when we accept the Prince along with the peace, we realize that he is everything we need to be fulfilled.
We know that all things are possible through God…so why doesn’t it always feel that way? When we see him for who really is, our Mighty God, we can trust that nothing is impossible when we are his children.
Who is the little baby that was laid in a manger that we talk about every Christmas? He is a wonderful counselor—he knows us completely, loves us fully, and is committed to seeing us through. And when we realize that, we can begin to understand that having him is better than having less pain.
Baptism is a symbol that reminds us of our past, encourages us in the present, and tells us about our future. Find yourself in these stories of Baptism at LCBC.
Jesus says your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. One of the ways we can love one another is by serving. There are opportunities all around us to serve and love our neighbor.
We’ve all heard the call to love our neighbor as ourselves—but how do we most effectively make a difference in not just our home communities, but in communities around the world? Hear from CEO of Hope International, Peter Greer, as he talks to us about what it means to put ourselves in the story of those less fortunate, and how we can respond with urgency to the invitation to make a difference through God’s love.
As the Church, we are called to release a flood of good works on our community. Being generous with what we have means needs will be met and God will be given the glory. When we realize that everything we have has been given to us, we can start to use what we’ve been given to benefit others. Join us for Be Rich 2016.
Clinical psychologist, leadership expert, and best-selling author Henry Cloud sits down with Senior Pastor David Ashcraft to talk about relationships, people, and leadership within the Church.
We had the opportunity to hear from the founder of the Global Leadership Summit, Bill Hybels, this weekend as he talked to us about leadership, God’s nudges, and our actions on and off the field.
Senior Pastor David Ashcraft interviews author, renowned spiritual leader, and Senior Pastor of Saddleback Church Rick Warren as he talks about purpose, encouraging truths, and the future of LCBC.
When Jesus talked about building the Church, he was referencing a people—not a place. It was a movement that started with his resurrection and continues today with LCBC. It’s important to remember that we are still in mission…and yes, it’s working.
As the Church, we are called to love like Jesus. But what does that look like for us? By comparing our opportunities to seek others today with the way Jesus did in his time, we can begin to see that our mission is to reach those beyond ourselves—and together, fully follow him.
What does it mean to be a fully devoted follower of Jesus? God wants us to love him with all of our heart, soul, and mind—but so often we take our eyes off of him when we’re distracted and end up lost. Following Jesus whole-heartedly leads to the best life for us, and for the body of Christ.
Sometimes in order to grow, we have to go back to our roots. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary as a church, we look back on the memories, songs, and mission that made us who we are. And we strive to remember that through it all, our focus is Jesus.
It’s not a surprise that the relationships we invest the most time in are the ones that grow the best. By being intentional about our time with God, we’re rooting ourselves in our faith. It’s as simple as finding your chair, committing to 10 minutes, reading, and reflecting. What path will you choose?
We know materialism is stupid. So why is our culture so obsessed with making money, having stuff, and building wealth here on earth? When we reduce our lives to what we have instead of who we are, we’re relying on money to make us happy. But by choosing to live with strategic simplicity, we’re expanding our life to everything God can do through us, and believing the truth that we are bigger than our circumstances.
When it comes to moral margin, we can have the best intentions going in. But the truth is that it’s easier to slide down a slope than climb a ladder. If we want to keep heading in the right direction, we have to keep pursuing morality––and it’s never too late to turn towards God.
We’re always looking for more time in our lives. But what if the issue isn’t the time we have, but the choices we make with it? If we want to have the best experiences, we have to prioritize them over trying to do everything. Having space for margin doesn’t mean having more time––it means having better priorities.
In our lives we can find ourselves chasing after meaningless trophies in an effort to feel more fulfilled. But the reality is the more we chase, the less room we have for margin in our lives. If we trust God to give us everything we need, we can stop worrying and start living.
It’s Baptism Weekend! We’re so excited to see the life change happening around LCBC. Come hear stories of how God is working and celebrate with us!
The idea that God is a scorekeeper, constantly keeping track of our sin, keeps us from knowing the truth about how he views us. While justice condemns the wrong and the wrongdoer, God removes our sin so that he can condemn the sin, but love us. When we realize this, we can begin to truly experience the forgiveness he has given us—and see the true image of God through the distortion. Listen to Podcast.
We tend to avoid situations that we don't want to deal with. But what happens when God is the one asking us to take a step forward? It's normal to be confused or inconvenienced when we're interrupted by something we don't understand–but the good news is that God has already prepared us for anything he brings our way. Because when God's plans are radically different from our own, it means his dream for us is bigger and better than we can even imagine. All we have to do is take one step. Listen to Podcast.
When we look at God from a human perspective, our view is often clouded by what’s going on in our own atmosphere. It’s easy to buy into the idea that God is remote and distant, but the entire message of the Old Testament tells us that we matter to God. When we realize that he is searching for us with intensity, that we are valuable to him, we can see the true nature of God––that he loves us like a father. Listen to Podcast.
When it comes to how we view God, our perception can alter how we see everything in the world. We may have the idea that God is a ticking time bomb, constantly angered by all the things we do that don’t follow his guidance. But the truth is that God is slow to anger, and his reasoning goes beyond frustration, leading to his love for us. And while his anger has limits, his love does not. Listen to Podcast.

When it comes to facing big risks, attitude is everything. We know that God has created us with all that we need to succeed, so why do we find ourselves acting out of an attitude of scarcity? Because God is our unlimited supply, we can live with an attitude of abundance. And we can pick the risky fights with confidence—because we already know who wins. Listen to Podcast.
It's easy to have faith when everything is going right. But how do we stay fearless when believing God means going beyond the facts? To live fearlessly, we are called to have faith that is bigger than man's expectations. And when we're stuck between faith and fear, we can have peace knowing that God is good. Listen to Podcast.
When it comes to doubting ourselves, we can come up with a list of excuses as to why we aren't good enough to do what God wants us to do. But God has given us the power to take on any situation He presents to us—if we are willing to look past the unknown and see that His will is greater than our fear. Listen to Podcast.
Life is unpredictable. It can be scary going into our everyday lives with the fear of the unknown looming over us. But fear isn’t the absence of faith–it’s misplaced faith. Being fearless means believing that God’s plan for our lives is bigger than the plan we have for ourselves.
When we're in the heat of the moment, it can be difficult to separate how we should react from how we feel. God wants us to react in accordance with his truth about us: that we are accepted, sure, and significant in him. When we recognize that nothing outside of us defines who we are, we can make pre-decisions that stay in line with what he wants for us. Because when we see the big picture, we can live from the inside-out. Listen to Podcast.
When we find ourselves stuck in destructive circles, what is it that keeps us from getting out of them? We tend to avoid pain at all costs—even if it means sacrificing growth. But changing our perspective can show us that experiencing short-term pain can lead to long-term progress. Because when we realize our pain can have purpose, we remember that God has better things waiting for us when we get out of the circle. Listen to Podcast.
We can't be liked by everyone and be effective at anything. If we let ourselves be distracted by what others think, we forget what God has told us he knows. Getting out of the circle of wanting to make everyone happy means taking a step back and remembering that we are here for only one reason—to live for an audience of one. Listen to Podcast.
When we care about someone, we want the best for them. But even if our desires are good, the relationship can become toxic when we let those desires become demands. Our responsibility isn't to change people–it's to love them and entrust them to God. Because when we realize that God is ultimately in control, we can truly live in peace. Listen to Podcast.
We tend to forget that the life we're living is a product of the decisions we've made. When we realize that we are the only ones capable of changing our attitude, we give ourselves the power to break out of a circle and be a different person on the other side. Jesus tells us that we can come to him no matter how many times we've messed up, because living in the freedom of forgiveness allows us to experience our lives in a whole new way. Listen to Podcast.
How often do we find ourselves in patterns that lead to nowhere? How can we move forward to where we want to be if we're stuck where we are? God gives us the opportunity to experience relationships the way he intended them to be if we're willing to admit that something has to change. Because we'll never drift out of the circles we're stuck in–we have to change our direction to break the cycle. Listen to Podcast
The act of baptism represents everything that LCBC is about. We celebrate life change because Jesus didn't come to make bad people good–he came to make dead people alive. By allowing him to fill the gap between what we want in life and what our life really is, we're trusting Jesus to fix what we can't fix in ourselves. Listen to Baptism.
As we take part in communion, we remember that Jesus died so that we could be forgiven. And we celebrate knowing that we don’t have to carry around what weighs us down–because Jesus was sent to take it from us.
Living the perfect Christian life is impossible. So how do we free ourselves from the guilt that comes with trying our best and falling short? If we let the Holy Spirit be God's advocate for our lives, we'll see that it isn't about perfection–it's about what God can do inside us when we let Him work. Listen to The Holy Spirit.
We are discovering that our roots are the deepest part of who we are. They affect where we go, how we act, and the choices we make along the way. If we want to reach our greatest potential, we have to dig deep.
When we think of the word church, we picture the place we spend time on Sunday mornings or Saturday nights. But what if our definition of church isn't what Jesus intended when he created us? We are called to do more than just understand God's love–we were made to show it to others. Play We Church.
We often use the words belief and faith interchangeably; but in reality, belief is a word that has meaning outside of religion. When we believe something, we look for evidence that supports our beliefs and surround ourselves with communities that encourage it. But what happens when we face the idea of doubt? Even the original followers of Jesus had a time when their belief didn't seem to add up. But lucky for us, doubt isn't the end of the story–it's often just the beginning. Play Starting With Doubt.
When we’re in trouble, we have a tendency to start bargaining with God, thinking he might be willing to change our short-term situation if we make him a long-term promise. But God doesn’t need anything from us, and there’s nothing we can do to change the standards of where we stand with him. Because it isn’t our behavior that makes us acceptable–it’s his grace. Play Mercy & Grace.
It’s easy to get used to carrying around the weight of our past. We’ve tried to make peace with the shame and guilt, but nothing seems to fix the messes we’ve made. Jesus tells us that we don’t have to haul our regrets around. His solution to our inability to forgive ourselves is simple–he’s already cancelled our debt. Play Cancelled Debt

There's a big, scary religious word nobody likes: Sin. But it's an important thing to understand so we can push restart on our lives. Sin is beyond making mistakes, and it messes up our relationship with God. But Jesus is in the business of restoring doomed people. "Sin" may be a frightening term, but being a sinner, and acknowledging it, means you are exactly who Jesus is after. Play Mistakes vs. Sin

When it comes to dealing with tough situations, our first reaction is to look for someone to blame. When we let the brokenness of our past overtake how we see the future, we forget that God knows our stories–and He knows how to use them. Experience our 2015 Christmas Eve gathering and hear how God can take a seemingly hopeless situation and turn it into a life-changing purpose. How will God use your story?

It sounds simple, but we’ve got questions: How do I start? Do I need to use special language? Is God really listening? What if I’m doing it wrong?

Today’s all about SWAG (stuff we all get). We all love free stuff. But when it’s from God it feels like there must be a catch. Do we want what he’s giving away?

God says to trust him. But this world is unpredictable. If we're to live fearlessly, we need to know if God has our back. But is God big enough?

Doing life with people is easier said than done. They can drive us up a wall. But what if we can find a way to deal with them without going nuts?
