Today's episode is a collection of parts taken from the recent round of group sessions that Corinne hosted.
EPISODE NOTES:
I'm going to intuitively speak to everyone. Close your eyes to help you receive it or keep them open—I don’t care. Just open your heart up to receive. Take a few deep breaths and think about inhaling peace and rest and exhale negativity. I want to remind you that you are not your stressors and that your stressors are not your life. They are a small portion of your life. You are not responsible for the people around you. You are not responsible for their emotions or life choices.
As we move down from our shoulders, notice if you feel any tightness in your chest or stomach area. Whether you do or don’t, I just want to let your inner child know they are safe and loved. There is nothing you need to fear. If something comes up that makes you afraid, you can share that. You will not be made fun of or criticized for your feelings.
To every part of you who has a preconceived idea of who you need to be or how you need to show up, I say to everyone of those ideas and thoughts—shhh you don’t have power in this space because freedom is here. Everyone here is allowed to express themselves—to show up however they need. All of your parts are welcome. The part of yourself that learned to be quiet is allowed to show up here. The parts of yourself that have been pushed to other corners are allowed to come back and be integrated back in. A big part of healing is integrating back into ourselves and allowing parts of us to come back so that we can become our authentic self—the fullness of who we were created to be.
One of the questions asked by a member was how to move on when you’re emotionally triggered. Feeling triggered means when we feel extreme intense emotion that can feel like it’s spiraling us downward or amping us up. It’s based on a subconscious belief that we believe about ourselves, others, or life in general and that belief is affecting our perception and feelings at that moment. We can be triggered in so many ways. One way I am triggered is if someone tries to tell me how I should feel or what I should think. It’s a sensitive spot because I grew up in that type of environment where my feeling states were somewhat dictated to me. Certain emotions were accepted and others weren't. If I can recognize that I’m feeling like they’re trying to shut me down then I can acknowledge, it’s really about them and how they’re thinking and feeling right now. If I look at it from that perspective then I can say it’s not about me, it’s about them. It takes practice. Let me pause. Take a breath. And not let it get to me. Are you already aware of one of your main triggers?
It’s easier said than done, but sometimes it’s good practice to not have a defense. Sometimes we shouldn’t waste our energy trying to convince someone of something. We may be misunderstood, but at least we’re being true to ourselves. I understand myself, even if other people do not. When we love people, it’s hard to see them in a difficult place and leave them there, not trying to rescue. There’s not much we can do about it if they won't.
It’s good to let emotions show up and present themselves, but it’s not good to dwell on the future and have that trip us up.
Being aware of your thoughts is the first thing. You can change the thoughts. You can disempower the thoughts. You can say “No, that's not what I’m going to focus on.” You can choose another narrative. You choose the narrative you presently do based on subconscious beliefs. Why am I telling myself I probably didn’t do well? Changing the story is always a choice. We get to choose what we do with our thoughts. They’re only thoughts.
