I'm happy to offer you my program, Radically Change Your Holidays, on the podcast once again! Do you want to enjoy the parties you host? I'm going to share ways you can simplify when you're the host. I'm making it personal and sharing from my own experiences.
If you are anything like me, I used to go over the top whenever I would host! I’ve learned to shrink the menu, guest list, decorations, etc. My goal now is to join in to the celebration and enjoy the time when it comes!
Because I have simplified my life in general it translates into less intense party prep. The house isn’t out of control, because we can maintain it more easily, and it doesn’t need to be cleaned to impress. Because I’m expecting less of myself, it’s easier all around. Also, a simplified lifestyle allows for pockets of time to prep before the party. I create space on the front and back end for rest, because I’m busier due to the party and I know that will affect my body. I plan for it.
When it comes to my children’s bday parties, I ask my kids who they want to invite to the party and we invite those guests. In order to do this, I had to get comfortable with the idea of disappointing people. Plus, fewer guests means more connection with the guests who are there. That’s a win! The menu is based off of the ideas each child has for their party. That’s also easier. I’m not preparing as much because my kids usually have reasonable expectations and are agreeable when we simplify. They’re used to our lifestyle!
Consider what you can do to create ease and more enjoyment in your parties. Come up with actionable steps and try out something the next time you’re hosting! One practical suggestion: take a few pictures of the important moments, and only pull out your phone/camera for that portion of the party.
