In Episode Four, Charles Brown talks about growing up in a supportive family that nurtured and encouraged his love of fashion and dressing up, and how that support gave him confidence to explore and expand his personal style, which combines great textiles and mid-century Hollywood glamour (this is a man who loves himself a caftan) with a confident embrace of gender fluidity. Charles has known he was an entrepreneur since kindergarten, when he had the idea to start his own fashion company. That dream materialized in the early aughts, when he opened Charles Lord, his Nashville-based fashion womenswear company that trades in the same kind of high chic held by his style icons, French aristocrat Jacqueline de Ribes and former Vogue editor (and Charles’ fellow Francophile) André Leon Talley. Today, Charles is a well-loved and respected member of Nashville’s increasingly diverse and expanding fashion community.
