Once upon a time your natural gifts were cherished. The wisdom and medicine you offered was considered sacred. You felt deeply connected and gathered with other women, empowering each other and sharing resources. You trusted that you were deeply supported. Your embodiment spoke volumes. You spoke your truth and you allowed yourself to be. You embraced your feminine essence and flowed with life.

This knowing is held deep inside your DNA.

Years later a movement was created targeting witches. The definition of witch was so broad that any woman (especially those that were deeply intuitive) could have been accused, punished and in many cases, sentenced to death.

The impact of this trauma is also held deep inside your DNA and is known as the ‘witch wound’. It manifests as a deep fear of being seen, difficulty speaking your truth, struggling to connect with your intuition, feeling disconnected from your emotions and hiding your gifts.

Together we are going to go on a journey to reclaim your power, embrace your magic and enter a space of true abundance where you allow yourself to be you and feel whole once again.

It is time to remember, acknowledge and celebrate being a witch, AKA a Woman In Total Connection (with) Herself.

Early on in Carolyn's journey with her young Standardbred Boomer she intuitively knew that something wasn't quite right (despite what others were saying). With Boomers guidance he ushered her toward empowering herself which ultimately led her to advocating for him, learning a lot along the way, starting her own business and navigating huge shifts in their relationship.

Through this conversation Carolyn vulnerably shares with grace and gratidude about her journey guided by Boomer whilst he was still in his physical body and now in spirit form.

Thank you Boomer for being such a selfless and powerful soul.

In 2017 I lacked confidence, sucked at groundwork, didn't have great relationships with my horses, had no idea what I wanted to do with my life (or so I told myself) and had some big eye-opening experiences.

Now in 2023, I have a 6 figure equestrian business, have great relationships with my horses, empower equestrians all over the world, am engaged and open to receiving everything I desire and more.

Listen in to hear about some of the eras I moved through to have this transformation and lessons learned along the way.

In this episode, I share 7 stories about 7 incredible horses I have had the pleasure of owning and some of the many lessons they have taught me.

  • Muffy, my first pony, who I absolutely adored
  • Shorty, my second horse who went from being sensitive, hot and ‘snobby to revealing his true self as the kindest, sweetest soul once I knew how to listen to him
  • Max, my third horse, who I tried to compete, but he found the pressure too much
  • George, my fourth horse, who I got as a yearling. I eventually sent to a trainer and navigated some challenges from there.
  • Bruce, my fifth horse who I competed, navigated injuries and went on a big horsemanship journey with
  • Frank, my sixth horse, who I had for a short time and I realised I didn't have the time to give him that he needed
  • Lily, my seventh horse, who I have started under saddle in a slow, compassionate way and she is freaking awesome

This episode is unlike any transformation I have shared on the podcast before because you get to hear it unfold in real-time and holy moly is it cool to witness!

My lovely client and guest for today's episode is Danielle Crowell. I met Danielle a few weeks ago as she interviewed me for an episode on The Equestrian Connection Podcast by We Horse (you can find the link to that episode below).

During our conversation, she shared with me that she had some mindset blocks that held her back from doing more with her horses, so I reached out and asked if she would be interested in joining me for a podcast episode and a mindset coaching session all in one. So, that is what this episode is all about.

You'll hear about:

  • How Danielle was struggling with not feeling good enough, and she would often worry about what other people thought of what she was doing with her horses.
  • Her journey with horses and how her past had shaped these thoughts and patterns
  • How she felt directly after her 1 on 1 mindset session with me
  • How she felt 2 weeks after our 1 on 1 mindset session (this part will blow your mind)
  • What she would say to someone who was feeling stuck like she was

In this episode, Dr Tracy Rainwaters and I have a open conversation about how to navigate the loss of an animal before, during and after their passing based on our experiences so far.

For those who haven't heard Tracy on the podcast before, she is a Shaman, Animal Communicator, Animal Chiropractor, Energy Healer and just an incredible human being. I am so grateful to have had this discussion with her because the lessons she shares about animals passing is not only practical, but it is deeply healing because she approaches it from all angles. She connects with the animal before it happens (if she can), she connects with other herd members before, during and after and also shares her experience grieving the loss of an animal after losing her mare Tina only a few weeks ago.

I also share some of my experiences around losing animals in the past, and after talking with Tracy, I now have some more knowledge about how to make that experience as smooth as possible for all parties involved.

I am sure you will feel a similar way after you listen to this episode too.

A follow on from episode 67 where I explore some other nuances around what to do if your horse says no or shows unwanted behaviours. I touch on

  • Sometimes you will just have a bad horse day
  • If your horse doesn't respond in a positive way it doesn't mean that you are necessarily doing the wrong thing
  • You cant expect your horse to be 100% happy all the time, learning is stressful and it's sometimes ok to encourage them through some moments if they need a helping hand to realise that they CAN do it
  • Sometimes we will have to do things with our horses that they dont like
  • How important preparation is to avoid forcing our horses through things

Then I finish with a tapping all about navigating the ups and downs with horses.

Happy listening <3

In this episode, I chat with Alison Curtis, who has just completed my Confident Equestrian Program (CEP) on a one on one basis. Alison had years of experience with horses and always found it easy to spend time with them until she fell ill and battled chronic illness for five years. During the time she was ill, all she was able to do was feed her horses.

Then as she began to recover, she suddenly lost her heart horse which added to the fear she was feeling about spending more time with her horses.

About a year later, she contacted me and joined the CEP to see if she could get back her joy with her horses again.

Together we chat about all of the above plus an honest reflection of how her journey in CEP unfolded, and she found happiness with her horses again, which she never thought would be possible three months ago.

Her journey is so inspiring. I am so happy for her and so grateful for the ability to be able to guide her on this journey.

In this episode, I chat with Confident Equestrian Program (CEP) graduate Cassie. • How she was able to find and accept a method of reinforcement that works well for her quiet but very foody Clydie x, Oakie

  • Her concerns about using negative reinforcement and desensitising and what her views are on that now

  • The struggles she was facing as someone who wants to use both positive and light negative reinforcement with her horse and the perceived judgement that can come from that

  • How she has been able to set Oakie up for success and prioritise their relationship whilst progressing with their training goals

In this episode, I chat with the lovely Confident Equestrian Program (CEP) graduate, Emma Nixon. She joined CEP because her confidence level plummeted after her young horse bolted on her and she fell off. Plus towards the end of this episode we also touch on how she has been able to stop worrying about what other people think and what has happened since she has started doing what she wants to do and putting herself out there.

If you own a shutdown horse, struggle to connect with your horse or feel anxious around them then you must listen to this episode!

I chat with Nicole Warwick who is a recent graduate of my Confident Equestrian Program (CEP). She joined the program because she was struggling with her horse, Captain. He is in his 20's and has spent most of his life as a riding school horse and Nicole really wanted to connect with him on a deeper level. However, traditional methods weren't working for her and she ended up feeling unsafe around him which caused her to seek out alternative methods which led her to clicker training and to join CEP.

Initially, she joined with a focus on helping her horse but soon realised that it was her mindset that needed to have the biggest change and oh my goodness did she gain some amazing lessons.

Her horse is now so much more curious, he is much braver and he is showing a side of himself that quite possible no one has seen in the past. He has really taught Nicole the power of waiting and surrendering to the process.

I just think it's the coolest thing ever to be able to change a horses life like that and whilst doing so changing your own life for the better in the process.

So sit back, listen and enjoy!

I am so happy to bring you this episode today as I feel that it is a conversation that isn't openly shared enough! Join me as I chat with my past client, Sarah about how she went from feeling crippled with fear trying to ride outside of the arena to riding around a huge paddock and enjoying herself!

Before Sarah contacted me she had spent 1 year trying to force herself to ride out of the arena but was only able to progress 10 meters in that time. People would tell her to just push through the fear and keep going but that strategy just wasn't working.

She then contacted me and 3 private mindset sessions later she was able to get to the root cause of her anxiety, reframe it and make progress riding out of the arena. Within a very short period of time, she was riding around a huge paddock and now she catches herself realising how much she is enjoying it.

It honestly makes me SO HAPPY that she is able to enjoy her horse and let go of the debilitating fear that she was holding on to and I hope her honest story inspires you to show you what is possible and makes you feel not so alone.

In this episode, I chat with Katherine Lowry, an Equestrian Biomechanics Clinician based in the United States.

Together we dive into:

  • When she started riding and how she never knew her mum was into horses before having children
  • Learning to ride and the importance of developing an independent seat
  • Her journey to becoming a horse trainer and how working in different barns with different disciplines allowed her to develop her feel for what worked across the board and the intricacies of each training regime
  • Her journey to healing after having some bad falls and overcoming her diagnosis of never being able to ride again
  • How in giving a lesson she was able to realise that she was actually more of a Biomechanics Coach than she realised which led her to hone in on that as her niche
  • How to invite chaos back into your riding
  • The number 1 exercise she believes all riders should incorporate into their routine

  • How she was able to apply her own medicine to her horse training
  • The mindset shifts she made to allow her to follow her feel
  • Balancing her kid's expectations of wanting to do things with the horses whilst prioritising the horse's confidence levels
  • How her goals have shifted completely now that she is viewing things through a new lens
  • How much stronger her connection is with Milo, her daughter's pony
  • The process of trialling a horse for herself and realising she wanted something different
  • Being ok with where you are at and how to view busy weeks where you may not have the time or energy to train the horses

In this episode, I chat with Confident Equestrian Program (CEP) graduate Kellie McCleave. Kellie joined CEP because she was having some trouble helping her very sensitive warmblood and wanted to pursue her dressage goals confidently and safely.

Little did she realise that her goals would actually change along the way as she started to connect with her horse on a deeper level. It has been a bit over a year since she completed the program, but she still utilises what she learnt each time she sees him, and some days are great, and some days he still struggles. The beautiful thing is that either way, Kellie can still appreciate the journey, not take it personally and help him through it.

Listen to hear about:

  • Her journey with horses before and after having children
  • What she was like before she started CEP
  • Lessons learnt throughout the program
  • Navigating the up's and down's whilst trying to help her sensitive warmblood
  • Her new goals and how differently she is viewing her time with her horse

and so much more.

Happy listening :)

Ok, desensitising can be a bit of a taboo word in the compassionate horsemanship realm BUT I want to explain why I use that term and why I actually love desensitising, which is why I decided to create this episode!

Listen in to hear about:

  • What desensitising IS and ISN'T
  • The benefits if done correctly and why you should consider adding it to your training regime
  • How to get started with your horse
  • Working with horses that have established fears vs those that don't

Prevention from big fear-inducing situations is better than cure and in my opinion, desensitising in a controlled environment first can help you do that.

We owe it to our horses to best prepare them for our human world. Their flight response can only get them so far and sometimes it isn't enough to help them or keep us safe.

There is a better way and I want you to feel empowered to prepare your horse for ANY environment because you can!

There have been many times in my life when I have worried about what other people think and have trusted other people's judgment over my own. Like when I: -was competing and wanted external validation -was showing and wanted to learn about horsemanship -would have lessons with people I look up to -was trying to blend horsemanship and competing -first started posting on social media -did my first podcast -started giving lessons -launched my Confident Equestrian Program And this list goes on... But what has always served me has been connecting back to my why and learning how to completely back myself. So in this episode, I wanted to share with you how you can navigate worrying about what other people think and come out of the other side of it feeling confident instead of holding yourself back. I hope what I share helps you understand your concern a little more and helps you to move forward with a bit more ease. You don't need to hold yourself back because of others. You can learn to trust yourself. Just keep going. You've got this! Happy listening :) To connect with me on Instagram, click here: -https://www.instagram.com/felicitydavies_/

In the past, I have forced horses to do things. I have lunged horses for hours, used tack that didn't fit, used tongue ties, used earplugs, let people hit my horses, used draw reins, yanked, kicked and felt let down by my horses 'poor' behaviour.

I wanted to share some of these experiences with you all and explain how I would mitigate them from happening now. Because I can't go back in time and change what I did, I might be able to help someone who listens to realise that there is a better way to work through these situations.

I genuinely believe that when these things happened, I was doing the best I could with the knowledge I had, and so were those around me. My intentions were good, and I loved my horses so much, I just didn't know of another way.

I hope that this episode makes you feel not so alone and inspires you to think outside the box and realise that you can help your horse through any situation you encounter.

In this episode, I have a beautiful conversation with my amazing friend Shadya Karawi Name about how we can get out of our own way and start flowing with life!

Shadya is a Spiritual Mentor from Barcelona who inspires, expands and transforms the lives of thousands of people all around the globe. To do this she uses an intuitive combination of astrology, channelling, psychology, tapping and family constellations so they can let go of whatever holding them back in their life so they can step into the highest, most magical version of themselves.

I met (and manifested) Shadya just under a year ago and she is my go-to person to help me reframe, shift and celebrate anything that is coming up for me in my life. Even though we have never physically met we are totally best friends and she is super gifted at what she does!

Together we have a conversation about:

  • How to navigate new beginnings in life and with our horses
  • How we can understand our behaviour through connecting to our inner child
  • How we can slow down and be present in our lives

  • How to reframe worrying about what others think of us
  • Navigating guilt and allowing ourselves to move on
  • Taking responsibility for our own lives and navigating triggers with ease

Plus so much more.

Whilst Shadya doesn't have horses physically in her life everything we speak about is directly applicable to any area of our life including what we are doing with our horses. Because if we can become our happiest, most authentic versions of ourselves then that's when our horses truly shine.

In this episode, I chat with my beautiful friend and former Confident Equestrian Program (CEP) student. Bec Plunkett.

Bec was the very first person to join CEP in April 2020 and initially came to me because she had 3 young horses that she wanted to work with but was worried about making mistakes.

So often people are told to just send their horse to a trainer (particularly with young horses) but I think if you are committed enough and willing to put in the time to learn and implement your skills then you can definitely work with young horses.

But...it is definitely a journey!

Listen in to hear about:

  • How Bec was introduced to horses and the main horses in her life
  • How she was feeling before she joined CEP and the doubts she had
  • The core lessons she learnt inside CEP and how she was able to view the horses differently
  • The shifts that she noticed in each of her horses including one very unexpected change in her older mare
  • What she has been able to achieve with the horses
  • Her future plans and how her goals have shifted

In this episode, I chat with Celeste-Leilani Lazaris from The Travelling Horse Witch. Celeste heals both horses and humans using bodywork, breathwork and mindset - for more on this check out episode 11 of the podcast.

In our last podcast episode, Celeste touched on the importance of the thoracic sling and how releasing any nerve pain from this area and slowly teaching horses to carry themselves correctly is having a huge impact on the horses she is working on.

She has also shared many before and after posts and informational posts on her social media accounts which outlined how important this work is but it led me to ask her...ok this is great but how can we help our horses build up their front end?

Which brings me to this episode of the podcast! Together we have a conversation about traditional horse training and how the focus is predominately on the topline and the hindquarter which often fails to build up the chest and abdominals which is responsible for our horses being able to really carry themselves correctly.

Celeste talks about what the thoracic sling is, the findings she is seeing in the many horses she is working on, how we can start to really build our horses front end up and what our horses should feel like.

In this episode, Elsa Sinclair shares her journey to explore the following question that a student asked her many years ago: What if horses were given a choice? Would they let us ride them? Without force or tools to control, and without bribes to lure them?

Together we dive into:

  • Her upbringing with horses and the important lessons she learnt in her childhood
  • Her career as a horse trainer and how one question caused her to explore a new way of training
  • How she documented her journey with a wild mustang to see if horses really had a choice would they let us ride them?
  • What that journey looked like and how it led her to create her Freedom Based Training approach that she teaches today
  • Her second documentary outlining her journey with a previously abused horse that was deemed unrideable to spending 2 weeks with him travelling across Costa Rica and what they were able to achieve together
  • How her third documentary is coming along as she aims to use the same approach but with 2 stallions, one that has been abused in the past and the other that hasn't had any interaction with humans
  • Her thoughts on positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement and how she views her reinforcers like salad, they can really take it or leave it

In this episode, Dr. Tracy Rainwaters and I chat about how to navigate your horsemanship journey and learn to trust what feels right for you and your horse, regardless of the type of training you are doing.

It can be very overwhelming when you start learning about new ways of doing things and we both have experienced our fair share of self-judgment and confusion on our journey.

So to help you feel a bit less alone and confused on your journey we chat about:

  • Reconnecting to what feels right to you and your horse regardless of what you think you 'should do'
  • Not making how you feel wrong and accepting the reality that there are so many ways of working with horses in a compassionate way
  • My takeaways from the shamanic healing session Tracy did with my horse Bruce
  • Do horses like us? Tracy discusses her findings from the many interactions and readings she has done with horses
  • Labels around horses and how that plays a huge part in our energy and how the horse responds to us
  • A horses energy field and what they can pick up on
  • Being open enough to learn from our horses and realise that they have so much to share with us and act as a guide on our own journey
  • Setting boundaries with horses
  • How Tracy communicates with animals and what that looks like

and so much more!

Bridie Sinclair is a 'normal' horsewoman who made the decision to empower herself and improve her relationship with her horse by joining The Confident Equestrian Program (CEP).

Before the program started she didn't have any major issues with her horse but she wanted to make his life even more amazing as sometimes he would get stressed out. She also struggled with anxiety and also lacked confidence in her ability to train her horse on her own, always relying on others to step in when she got stuck.

Not anymore though!

Throughout CEP she has improved her relationship with her horse, strengthened her groundwork skills - to the point where she can work him at liberty and also help him in random environments, ridden him bridleless, refined her aids for dressage, and is thoroughly enjoying the journey.

Inside this episode, we dive deep into the ups and downs of her experience in CEP and tease out the main lessons she learned that led her to have this epic transformation.

So get ready to be inspired as heck and if you want to connect more with Bridie you can find her on Instagram here

Listen in to hear my thoughts on some archaic beliefs and methods used in the equestrian industry that for the most part I think don't make any sense....

Let's face it...its 2021 and we can do better and be better for both ourselves and our horses :)

Also if you would like some additional support in forgiving yourself for things you may have done in the past or seen others do then please join my Confident Equestrian Community. Inside this group I'll be hosting a free workshop for you all to help you on your healing journey to let go of any guilt and self blame you have been holding on to so you can move forwards and enjoy your horses

I'll be diving into sharing my opinion on the below:

  • Just get on and ride! Get back on the horse!
  • Show them who’s boss!
  • Move their feet!
  • Wet/sweaty saddle blankets will make them calm down!
  • Don’t feed your horse treats, they’ll turn into a monster
  • Using R+ doesn’t mean your horse wants to be with you, you’re just luring them
  • If your horse follows you it means they’re respectful, if they turn your bum to you it means they’re not
  • Bucking it out when saddling
  • They just need more miles!
  • More lunging! More working down!
  • You need years of experience to be able to work with a “difficult” horse
  • You can’t just learn good feel
  • You’re too soft with your horse
  • Your horse needs a job
  • They can’t just be a paddock ornament
  • Don’t let them get away with it!
  • Tie them up all day, that’ll teach them some manners
  • Tongue over the bit or chomping? Just tighten the noseband
  • Hold the lead rope tight at all times
  • Desensitising is bad!
  • If they bite you just hit them back!
  • Growl at them if they are playing up!
  • Negative reinforcement is bad
  • Rope halters are the best/the worst
  • Bits vs bitless

This episode will help you logically understand the exhausting negative thoughts that might loop inside your head that are affecting your relationship with your horse.

Often there is one side of us that feels really capable but then there is a fear side of us that can doubt everything. You might feel like you are not good enough, you worry about ruining your horse, you question everything, you worry about what others think and ultimately you constantly beat yourself up.

If this is you I just want to let you know that you are not alone and I completely understand what you're going through.

Inside this episode, I dive deeper into my own healing journey from not liking myself to developing compassion for myself and even loving myself.

I also touch on the modalities I have used in my journey that have helped me make logical sense of my thoughts so I can let them go including:

  • Talk therapy
  • Reading lots of self-development books
  • Manifestation
  • Human design
  • Astrology
  • Inner child work
  • Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
  • Journaling
  • EFT
  • Forgiveness work

Plus I dive into how I help my clients heal and how it really goes hand in hand with improving their relationship with their horses., because if you can logically understand yourself and have compassion for what you have been through then you can be a lot kinder to yourself and everyone around you (including your horse).
