Dr. Shawn Horn, also known as The Shame-Busting Psychologist, has 28 years of experience in the mental health field. In today’s podcast, she talks about her experiences growing up, how she flourished in her career, and some of the ways she let go of shame and found success.

1. Was there a time when you didn’t feel so confident? As a young child, Dr. Shawn was placed in special education classes and was not given high expectations. However, the moment she was given the opportunity to demonstrate her potential, she ran with it. In community college, she found a passion for learning, and this pushed her to pursue her doctorate degree.
2. Reimagining her career: As Dr. Shawn settled into her career, she began to feel that she was using her career as a shame shield. Just when she began feeling burned out, she attended a women’s conference where she had the insight that she was meant to serve the world with her gifts and be her true, outgoing self.
3. What would you say to your younger self? Dr. Shawn wouldn’t change anything about her past because she feels like she needed to go through all of those experiences to be the person she is today. Instead, she would comfort her younger self and ease her anxiety by saying: It’s all going to be okay.
