On March 7th and 8th, 2025, the Dripping In Black Creator’s Retreat welcomed an esteemed lineup of speakers dedicated to fostering creativity and collaboration. Among them was Jacksonville’s own Mr. Al Pete, a multifaceted creative, media professional, and community leader. His presentation focused on the importance of community—how to find it, how to be involved in it, and the balance between giving back and taking from it.Mr. Al Pete captivated attendees with his wisdom, guiding them through the aspects of identifying and nurturing the right community. He emphasized that a strong community isn’t just about shared interests—it’s about shared values, mutual respect, and a commitment to growth. He encouraged creators to seek out spaces where they feel seen, heard, and empowered to contribute their authentic selves.Engagement was another focal point of his talk. Mr. Al Pete stressed that simply being present in a community isn’t enough and active participation is key. Whether through collaborations, mentorship, or supporting fellow members, being involved fosters deeper connections and amplifies collective success. He urged attendees to move beyond passive membership and truly invest in the communities they wish to be part of. One of the most thought-provoking sections of his presentation explored the delicate balance between giving and taking. He reminded creators that a healthy community thrives on reciprocity. While it’s natural to seek resources, guidance, and support, members must also be willing to contribute in meaningful ways. Whether through sharing knowledge, offering encouragement, or providing opportunities, giving back ensures the sustainability of the very spaces that uplift us.Mr. Al Pete’s session left a lasting impact, equipping attendees with the tools to be intentional about the communities they engage with and inspiring them to become active stewards of the creative spaces they inhabit. As a recognized leader in media, music, and storytelling, Mr. Al Pete continues to exemplify the principles he shared cultivating spaces where people can thrive, connect, and leave a legacy of impact. The Dripping In Black Creator’s Retreat served as the perfect platform for this conversation, bringing together like-minded individuals eager to build, learn, and grow together. Follow the Dripping In Black brand to find out more information on the next retreat. Production of the presentation: Krate Digga of The Ummah Creative Group

An extension to the next 5 years of The MPN Network. Captain’s Log:It’s Day 4 of me being sick. Thank goodness it isn’t COVID, but shame on the dirty person that is spreading this filth. With that, I have been sleeping a lot. Like…A LOT. I thought I was caught up from the two years of being in grad school, but taking multiple naps THEN sleeping a full eight hours is a different world like Cree Summers (I had to do it…IYKYK). Within all of the snoozing, I have been sitting with, as well as developing thoughts for what 2025 will look like for myself, as well at The MPN Network. It’s year five. Happy Anniversary to the movement. The new tagline.

I was not sure of how I wanted to acknowledge the anniversary, the achievements and the shortcomings, and the things in between. I was sure of what I would like for the next five years to exhibit. The thought came in the summer of 2024 and I mentioned randomly that I want more engagement with the community. Everyone is accustomed to doom strolling when general conversation is being forgotten. The various topics and conversations that will be had (culture, social commentary, media, tech, etc.) does not have to be serious all the time. It will be fun while being informative and uplifting. Let’s do a quick breakdown of what the tagline entails:

Engage:Build authentic connections by actively listening, creating meaningful conversations, and fostering a sense of community.Empower:Equip the audience, team, and collaborators with the tools, knowledge, and confidence they need to succeed.Elevate:Take ideas, projects, and people to the next level through innovation, collaboration, and high-quality execution.

There will be more explanations behind the new tag. There will also be a few trips down memory lane: throwback podcast recordings, examples of the various partnerships we had the pleasure to work with, pictures galore, and more. The more heavy hitting reads will be here, but expect sprinkles from my newly Substack page and on our various podcast shows (Clear Visions, The Groove Suite, and The Neighbor’s Way being a few, but expect to get the dosages within them all). I have a year to celebrate, reflect, and to…elevate The MPN Network. I was concerned that I did not have this grand thing to share with everyone, but as I complete this writing, I am confident that going with the flow as it comes suits well. We will figure it out like how we have been doing since January 16th, 2020 (this is the official day I bought the domain and started the Squarespace journey). More to come. It’s time to be THANKFUL while creating more memories. Be great and talk soon. -Mr. Al PeteP.S. It’s still ‘…building, but becoming…’, it’s simply a new wave added to it. Chea!

Neighbors & Groovers! We’re a month in to 2024 and things have been good over here (and spicy in the culture laughs). We have another round of shows that we recommend for you and yours. These three shows shed some light on some perspectives. One show gives insight on how living, and more so being raised in the state of Florida was, and still is…difficult. Journalist and dope guy Al Leston does a great job with bringing the people to the world of Mickey Mouse, palm trees, and…DeSantis. Yeah… lets the readers sit in that……on a lighter note and from the desk of The Groove Suite, The Midnight Miracle and What Had Happened Was shows are musical story gems. When it comes to sharing a good story, you have to pull from what people’s perspectives are, or could be. The stories on how Mos Def (or yasiin bey), Talib Kweli, and Dave Chappelle connected to create their show, along with how Mos and Talib came up with the Black Star is in this particular episode below…and they are GREAT (no Tony the Tiger). Open Mike Eagle’s show finale had Questlove sharing stories about The Roots album ‘Things Fall Apart’, how The Soulquarians came about…and quickly left consumers high and dry (Quest explains thoroughly why…and it makes sense), and more with this particular album. It’s a dope listen, yall. Yeah… lets the readers sit more in that thought……and finally, we have the home team crew The Soul Qurators with a dope interview with Sy Smith. ChristinaCurates, MistaGoodbar, and Soops Kitchen have a real dope conversation with the songstress. Check it out below. …anywho. Happy Black History Month and Happy Love Month. Enjoy it by immersing in some history and enjoying the episodes below. See you in March.

Happy December/Holidays, Neighbors and Groovers! As everyone dodges snowballs (or the awful dreading 50 degree weather in Florida), here are some podcast shows that will keep the cheers up. They are not holiday shows, but they are shows that will…yeah…cheer you up. We are all about inspiring someone through audio and making our Neighbors and Groovers feel great, so these shows are simply that: cheering. Are you all getting the connection? Cheer? laughsThe first show comes from one of our dope neighbors. Krate Digga has been heavily inspired and creating up a storm (and we’re here to see and support it all). He brought two of his friends together (Mr. Al Pete and Dr. Londy JD Green) to have a conversation about being an artist and how far can their artistry go, how far should a fan put pressure on the artists, and more. Be on the lookout for the next edition from Krate. The second show (and the interviewee Andre 3000’s album) spawned the first show’s conversation. We all woke up and 3 Stacks was announcing the release of his new album ‘New Blue Sun’ coming three days later. Without any intentions, the internet flew away and it’s STILL up in the air. The first interview with Stacks came out the same day as the announcement. It felt great to her him talk. Enjoy. It’s the Andre 3000 Effect.Black Enterprise has a cool show (The New Norm With Selena Hill) and she interviewed Ish of the Joe Budden podcast. It was dope to see him be interviewed. He is business-minded and knows his stuff. He also is a cool add on to the Joe Budden podcast, so hearing his perspective on podcasting and business was…cheerful laughs. Our last show comes from the musician, podcaster, and comedian Donwill. We interviewed him on The Groove Suite podcast (click HERE to listen) to speak on his new single with his Hip Hop duo ‘Don’t Look Up’. We also spoke about his Webby award-winning podcast The Almanac of Rap. Below is one of our favorite episodes. Enjoy the episodes and please share some podcasts that you think will be good to check out. Be great, everyone #TOTHETOP

Happy November, Neighbors and Groovers! Welcome to 2024 laughs! Yes, it is the end of 2023 and as always, we hope it has been well for you and yours. We have some shows to share that we felt would be easy, informative, and educational. The first show offers a perspective on how your physical and mental can be affected by doom scrolling (we had to look that one up…outside of catching the clues). Dr. Sahib Khalsa explains how being on our phones and consuming negative news and information brings our thoughts and our bodies down a few notches. The second show is for the music lovers. Tank and J. Valentine have a great music podcast and in this particular episode, they spoke with Bryan-Michael Cox. He has been part of the success of some of our favorite R&B artists (Usher, Jagged Edge, etc) and he shares a lot on this episode. Enjoy, Groovers! We shared the last show before and they are presented again. This episode has the gang reflecting on an issue that seems to be lingering in their clouds. If you’re familiar with the issue, it was good to hear their point of view. We do not want to give it away. Listening to it is good. Enjoy the episodes and please share some podcasts that you think will be good to check out. Be great, everyone #TOTHETOP

Words by Mr. Al Pete2023 is the year of the Hip Hop genre turning 50 and there have been numerous dedications that highlight the culture, the players that kept it going, and the music that made our lives better. In addition, the North Carolina duo Little Brother celebrates 20 years of being a force in Hip Hop. Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh have released five albums along with mixtapes and solo projects. They have their respected features on some notable artist songs and albums. Also, their debut album ‘The Listening’ was released in February of 2003. How do they celebrate these victories? By throwing a block party in the city where they started the journey: Durham, North Carolina. The event took place on October 7th, 2023 and the vibes were ALL there. The weather was beautiful and consists of ample sun with a brisk of autumn floating around. The lineup matched the rays: Zo! and Tall Black Guy with special guests Carmen Rodgers, BeMyFiasco, and Darien Brockington, DJ sets by DJ Hourglass and DJ Wally Sparks, The Cool Kids, Big K.R.I.T., and of course, Little Brother. All of this excellence was mixed with food trucks, merch, and music lovers. With Little Brother being the nucleus of the event, it gave respected exposure to the artists that were performing and that were in attendance to support (spotting Nicolay, Rory, Carlitta Durand, and Tamisha Waden at the party was great…and they were pleasant to meet). The show displayed a mixture of Soul, Funk, and Hip Hop…and even some ratchet tunes was added (Juvenile ‘Back That Thang Up’ does not hurt anyone). Starting off with a funky band, then adding DJ mixes and electric performances, and ending with Little Brother going through their momentous catalog was the joint! What made it better was them starting their performance with the two songs released weeks prior to the block party. Yes. View fullsize

Let me add that the event felt like a family reunion. It definitely gave off family reunion vibes. I was here for ALL of it. Little Brother are the heroes that makes the people love Hip Hop. They are relatable, remarkable, and important to the history of the genre. The efforts they made to give us this memory will forever be respected and admired. Cheers to their success and we are here for the ride. Now the obvious question EVERYONE asks: when the album coming out?? laughsEnjoy the DJ mix below. It consists of music from the mentions. This mix exhibits the vibe I was in. View fullsize

Neighbors! It’s another round of the podcasts we are tapped in to! The fall season is here and we have some easy shows that we want to recommend to the Neighbors. Outside of football and gearing up for the duration of the year, make sure you hit play on these entertaining shows.Peace to AutumntheAries for highlighting Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary on her recent show. She brings on the Hip Hop expert 12Kyle for an insightful conversation on where Hip Hop started, how the music resonated with communities outside of New York, and more. Her ‘Shut The **** Up’ segment is hilarious and she is a ray of light to the podcasting world. The second show is some dope tastemakers that are on the network: The Soul Qurators. The recent episode revisits the music from 2020. That year was a blur due to COVID so some music was missed, but ChristinaCurates, Soops Kitchen, and MistaGoodbar reminds us of some of the tunes that kept us sane. The last show that we recommend is The Pivot. Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder have some meaningful conversations about sports, the culture, and more. They have some of the coolest guests (comedian Desi Banks episode was great) and they are some modern cool guys with good substance for the audience. We hope you enjoy the shows and make sure you’re following them to receive more content in the future. If you want to recommend some shows to us to be featured, hit us up. We’re here to spread the word on the dope shows out here. #TOTHETOP!

The sports world is fully active and is making way back into our homes. What’s better than enjoying days filled with trash talk, the ‘hot off the press’ moments when your team gives an upset to the world’s favorite, and being immersed in a cold one and wings with your friends? You answered it correctly: sports talk. What’s MORE better to add into this list: You answered correctly again: The Sports Desk Live returning! The Sports Desk Live consists of Dedrick L. Hicks, Jr. (Dee), Nate Lockwood III (Black), and the heavy contributor of the crew Rashaad Robinson-Thomas. For a long period, they have kept the fans glued to their podcast streamers…waiting for the hot take after a good, or bad sports game. It’s not just college and NFL football talk either. It’s basketball, wrestling, and more. The crew got you covered. As we all know, the times steadily change with how content is produced and even received. With that, the Sportsologist took some time away to strategize their purpose and they came up with a game plan (or a new playbook…if you will). The game plan: take the show to the YouTube world. We sat down with them and ask them about the challenges, what fans should be looking for, and more. The crew will be going live on their YouTube page, every Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7pm. On top of them going live, they will have short but effective content to keep your sports fix going. We are ready for the ride. We suggest you gear up!

What was the reason for the rebrand?Dee: It was time to expand and get with the times. Visuals are so important in the world of content, especially in the sports podcasting world. YouTube is a great opportunity for us.Black: Sports talk is growing. You don’t want to hear what your favorite personalities are saying. You want to see them. Also, I believe that the Sports Desk taking this next step is going to be really big for us because people around the world will say this is the sports talk show they can’t miss.Dee, you have been successful with the fragrance lane on YouTube. Do you see any challenges with bringing The Sports Desk to YouTube?Dee: Of course, it’s a different world, we want to figure out what are the visual demands of the day-to-day sports fan. We want to create our own lane that is separate from everyone else. I know consistency is the key and we have committed to that. What's the biggest thing you’re looking forward to with this football season?Black: I’m looking for a lot of excitement with football from NFL to college football. It’s nothing like getting up on Saturday and Sunday, eating a hot breakfast, then sitting back and watching football all day. I also save a lot of money when football is on: from the Jacksonville Jaguars and Florida State, which are both of my favorite teams. They could have great years and that would be the icing on the cake. What are your influences, or what inspires you all to talk about sports the way that you do?Black: Me and my brother Dee have been talking about sports since we were 8 years old, so it’s just a way of life. I see everyday as an opportunity to talk sports with my brother. It just so happens that everyone else gets to see us talk about sports. When we talk about sports, it’s a lot of fire and passion because we've been doing it for over 30 years.Rashad: I think it’s just the investment. The time and money invested. When you invest those kinds of resources in anything, its going to bring the passion out. Whether its going to a game in the hot sun or spending hours listening to sports podcasts and TV. Whether it’s through a win or loss, the passion will come through and that’s why my takes are passionate. Years and years of investment, What can fans of the show expect from the new angle in reporting sports?Dee: They can expect the same energy and consistency from week to week. They can also expect a wide range of sports topics being covered daily. It will be contributions from new faces who have the proper credentials to add value to the new sports desk. Most importantly, your SportsOlogist will always keep real! The Sports Desk Live promo

Microaggressions in the workplace are subtle yet pervasive forms of discrimination that can have a profound impact on individuals. These everyday verbal, behavioral, or environmental slights often stem from unconscious biases and create an uncomfortable and hostile work environment. Whether it's a demeaning comment, a dismissive interruption, or a presumption based on someone's identity, microaggressions serve to undermine a person's sense of belonging and worth. They erode morale, hinder productivity, and impede collaboration. It is essential for organizations to address and challenge these microaggressions by promoting education, fostering inclusive discussions, and implementing policies that value and respect the diverse backgrounds and experiences of their employees. By striving for a workplace that is free of microaggressions, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all. Join us, on June 26th, 2023 as Mr. Al Pete has this discussion with fellow musicians DJ EnerJi and DJ Krate Digga. 7pm ET | 6pm CT on The MPN Network’s YouTube page. We’re back to give the neighborhood the podcast shows that we’ve been listening, and we want to share with our Neighbors and Groovers! We have a history-driven music show, an outlook and insight on a buzzword, a celebratory show to Hip Hop, an all-around conversation show, and some intellectual snob talk! A gentle reminder: if you would like for us to review a show for future consideration, drop a comment or email us. We’re here to receive all of the great podcasts that exists and need to be shared. Enjoy our picks for the month of June.

The Indicator From Planet MoneyThis five-part series examines the world of an influencer. The term has been popular for some years, but there hasn’t been a true definition of what it consist of. NPR does a dope job with speaking with the people that make a living with being an influencer (or content creator, depending on who says it and where you read it at) to the people who still dream to become full-time with the career. Below is part one. The episodes are up to 10 minutes long (which is a double plus over here) and informative. https://bit.ly/3C2dYtJ

The Music SnobsThis show brings some of the most respected insights of music. We’re still trying to figure out who the hosts are, but “the guys” are easily relatable and will become your spokesmen of what they listen to and how to view the music, within and out. On their season finale, they do a dive into what Tupac’s life could have been if he was still with us. This episode parallels well with the latest docuseries that came out on Hulu: Dear Mama: The Saga of Afeni and Tupac Shakur. For more info on the show and their network: https://wildflowerpodcasts.com

Queue Points PodcastDJ Sir Daniel and Jay Ray are the incredible hosts of this history-filled and entertaining Black music podcast. From their latest dedication to the Queen Tina Turner (below) to saluting the King of New Jack City to acknowledging Spike Lee’s contribution to Black film and music, these homies don’t miss a step in giving the people that lesson! It’s a reason why they’re Ambie-award (and other respected awards) nominated. Hit play. https://queuepoints.com for merch, exclusive content, and to sign up for the goods!

Hip Hop DNA OriginsNOTE: This show that’s in podcast format (in our opinion) is on Apple Music, so some might not be able to listen. If you’re able to and you’re a Hip Hop fanatic, you’re in for a good storytelling experience. This year marks 50 years of Hip Hop and Apple Music are handling business with releasing episodes that are dedication to various regions of the greatest music. The link below is a homage to the South and Ebro Darden narrates the episode well. Enjoy (if you can listen)!https://bit.ly/3C2Nng8

The 12kyle PodcastKyle is killing the solo podcast lane, for sure. Kyle and his thoughtful intakes on Hip Hop, past memories, relationships (and more) will have you reflecting on your preceding journeys. There are occasional interviews, but Kyle is keen with holding the throne on his own. A bonus: his Twitter account is active and funny (his NBA gifs are hilarious)! Tap in!

You’re Safe HereLRK Production is good with the music, the videos, the consistent content, and now with a podcast show. To add on, Ashley, Destini, Shaq, Devoe, and Mr. LRK himself are excellent at creating spaces that are comfortable for creators and the surroundings. Aunties are made to be cool, right? Give it a spin and enjoy the neighboring love!

The Blog EraItsTheReal duo has been blossoming with their shows: A Waste of Time podcast, 2 Jews & 2 Black Dudes podcast with The Lox, and being cool guys. They take their praised storytelling strengths to the narrative podcast realm with their new show: The Blog Era. Brothers Eric and Jeff Rosenthal dive in to the history of how blogging helped out some of the Hip Hop artists we celebrate today (the likes of J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Big KRIT, etc). Blog sites become popular by posting songs that the labels wouldn’t have done. Sites like Nah Right, 2 Dope Boyz and more were instrumental in sparking an era that needed like. Thanks to ItsTheReal for doing that.

Rap Radar OPINION: this is the best Hip Hop podcast out. Elliott Wilson and B-Dot are a dynamic duo that gets in to the works and minds of some of the prominent emcees and musicians shaking up the culture. Wilson and Dot have an impressive resume when it comes to Hip Hop journalism, so bringing the interviews to the pod world is a plus for the Hip Hop nerds and historians. This a great way to get into the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop spirit!

Dear CultureHosted by editorialist Panama Jackson, this pod touches on various topics that are connected to the Black culture. It’s meant to bring awareness, light, and entertainment to everyone. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEContact: Liz McCoyLizMcCoy@jwjpark.org(904) 515-5098 x 4JACKSONVILLE’S EMANCIPATION CELEBRATIONRETURNS TO JAMES WELDON JOHNSON PARK IN 2023JACKSONVILLE, FLA., April 4, 2023 – Councilwoman Ju’Coby Pittman, James Weldon Johnson Park and the City of Jacksonville are excited to announce the third annual Jacksonville Emancipation Celebration. The festival will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2023 in an effort to educate the community about the historical significance of Florida’s observed Emancipation Day. Cities like Jacksonville in the State of Florida are acknowledging this special day of freedom.“Emancipation was proclaimed in Florida on May 20, 1865 and the City of Jacksonville recognizes the significance that has made for our community,” said Mayor Lenny Curry. “We’re excited and humbled to support James Weldon Johnson Park as we celebrate this day together with a fun festival for the community.”Headlining this year’s festival will be Dat’s Pressure Band, a Soul & R&B Vibe from Jacksonville. Award Winning Author, Actor, Professor, and Media Personality Rahman Johnson will host. Other great local performers include Nan Nkama Pan-African & Drum Ensemble. Jacksonville Arts and Music School, Taryn “Love Reigns” Warwood, and Mal Jones. In addition, Jacksonville’s Emancipation Celebration will feature local African American food trucks and vendors and fun activities for the kids. A panel discussion of local historical figures will lend their voices to weave educational stories into the event. The festival will begin at 4 p.m. and close out at 9 p.m. at James Weldon Johnson Park.“As a community, we are recognizing the past wrongs and injustices with a celebration of unity with a profound purpose. As we continue to celebrate as a community, we still have work to do together,” said Councilwoman Pittman.Emancipation was proclaimed in Tallahassee, Fla. on May 20, 1865, 11 days after the end of the Civil War, and two years after the Proclamation was first issued by President Abraham Lincoln to free those enslaved in Southern states. On May 10, Union General Edward M. McCook arrived in Tallahassee to receive the surrender of Florida’s Confederate troops. On May 20, McCook formally announced President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, effectively ending slavery in the state. While many people celebrate Juneteenth, Florida celebrates May 20 as its Emancipation Day. Narrative storytelling in podcasting is a form of audio storytelling that follows a narrative structure. It typically involves a host or narrator who guides the listener through a story, often featuring interviews, sound effects, and music. The story can be fictional or non-fictional, but the emphasis is on engaging the listener and creating an immersive experience through the use of audio. Join us, on April 12th, 2023, as award-winning podcaster and producer Dominic Lawson shares his methods of creating a narrative show. This conversation will be great for inspiring podcasters that have thoughts of going down this path. 7pm ET | 6pm CT on The MPN Network’s YouTube page. Groovers! We’re revisiting a past podcast show where Mr. Al Pete has a compelling conversation with Mr. Dominic Lawson, the host of The Startup Life, Black Is America, Beyond Theory, and Recovery Replay podcasts, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, and much more. The song that was expounded on was Three 6 Mafia ‘Ridin’ Spinners’, a classic down south tune Pete and Dom can cosign with ease. In the episode, they reflected on where they was at in life when the song came out, which was released in 2003. Also, they elaborated on how winning an Oscar elevated and cemented Three 6 Mafia’s legacy in Hip Hop and importantly, the music world. From a comical view, they share memories of the down south culture (gold teeth, the FUBU clothes, and of course, the spinning rims). Enjoy the show below and be on the lookout for another conversation with Dominic and Pete about narrative podcasting happening on April 12th, 2023. Hope to see you there!

Here at The Groove Suite headquarters, everyone can be a Groover in their own rights, and we respect that. But when we're talking about embodying the spirit of a true Groover (or as the music geniuses would say...a tastemaker), these three "que-rators" are such.Mr. Al Pete has a cool conversation with ChristinaCurates (The ChristinaCurates Show, New Music Fridays, etc.), MistaGoodBar (The Remedy Radio, etc.), and Soops Kitchen (Soops Kitchen playlists, etc.). The trio give their definition of what Soul is, why doesn't the genre get more praises and appreciation, and essentially...how does this genre make you feel. They also tackled the ongoing segment: "What's Your GROOVE?"...AND...they talk about a new venture they're beginning! What is that venture you ask?? Find out by listening to the show! Black media and the way the narratives have been exhibited is an ongoing topic. At times, we see a few media outlets created by Blacks, and other times, there isn’t much presence of it. The change comes at this moment. The Northeast Florida chapter of The National Association of Black Journalists is hosting a network mixer on February 16th, 2023 at Breezy Jazz House. The purpose for this engagement is to welcome local Black media workers to join the chapter and add value to the growth of Black media in this district. They’ll be conversations about the mission of the chapter, understanding the objectives, and becoming a force for the area. Within this, they’ll be light hors d'oeuvres and some giveaways. “I'm expecting to see a room full of visionary media professionals come together to make a mark on the Jacksonville community.” says Kendra Mazeke. “People will be networking, learning, and excited to see the foundation of this organization being laid. I feel like they will leave inspired and ready for what we are bringing.”For more information on the mixer and to RSVP, click HERE. Share with anyone you feel would be a good fit to attend. In 2024, they’ll be celebrating 10 years of being a community-driven district and hub for the podcasters around the world. This accomplishment is remarkable to achieve, and it’s well earned because thousands of people attend the annual conference and leave with the motivation and drive to start their shows. For Mr. Al Pete, this conference isn’t new to him. His first attendance was in March of 2020. He was a speaker at the online conference in 2021. He’s met many podcasters that he still bonds with currently. So attending this year’s conference was a family reunion for him. But, was the conference worth spending the weekend at? The holiday day is upon us all and it’s time to get the ideas flowing on gifts, cheers, and more food rubs tummy. Throughout the holiday, we’ll be rolling out some content that’ll hopefully help get you through finding the right gift and float around the season with good vibes. For starters, we’ll focus on all the tastemakers and music lovers in the world! Do you have that cousin that talks about music all the time or do you have a parent that loves the Jazz genre?? Do you know a friend that is an up and coming musician in their own right?? Well…here are some platforms that are cool to bless your cousin, father, and/or friend with and how you can fill their (virtual) stockings with!BandcampThis is a great online music store that has an enormous amount of music from musicians all around the world! For an artist, it’s a great benefit because the payment structure is up to what the artist chooses to set the amount to be…AND it gives the consumers an option to pay more, if they choose to. Some of the artists have merch, vinyls, and a newsletter to keep the old and new fans up on their happenings. The simple way to bless the music lover is to give them a gift card and let them have fun with digging in the crates. Yes…there is Apple and Spotify, but Bandcamp has this stellar platform to bring attention to musicians that we wouldn’t know exists. With buying a gift card, you’re giving the option to exposure your music geek friend (or family member) to some new jams! What a way to support indie artists while enjoying the exclusives. Click HERE to buy gift cards. PaetronThis platform is membership-based and it gives creators (musicians, podcasters, journalists, etc.) the power to control their content while earning some coins. Paetron is a cool tool to have the creator’s fans pay them directly for exclusive content, how-to videos, unreleased songs, and more. Now for that music lover you’re wanting to buy for, you can find out what artists they love and buy a subscription for that artist’s page. Soul musician Eric Roberson currently has a page where you can pay $5 per month to have access to his music and his journey. If you do a yearly subscription, that’ll have the music lover happy the whole calendar year! Joe Budden has multiple tiers that’ll give a better example of what content he’s offering. MixcloudLike Bandcamp, Mixcloud is a streaming platform that prides on the audio culture. You’re able to discover new artists (more so known for DJs and music curators), support their causes, and be part of a community that is all about the audio! If the music lover is looking to share their DJ mixes or share a song they’re looking to get feedback on, Mixcloud has the specialties to do such. They also offer a tier of $15 a month that’ll give them some tools to expand their reach. Also, it’ll handle that funky copyright stuff! So the music lover isn’t an inspiring singer or DJ, you can still find dope musicians and subscribe to their pages for the treats. Los Angeles, California-based DJ EXCEL has a subscription for $2.99 a month and he offers exclusive mixes, tracklists, offline listening, and more. Listening a mix now and they’re about to get this $3! YouTube PremiumYouTube is the house of a lot of content, from videos, music, and more. With the YouTube Premium, you can watch ad-free videos, download music to listen offline, experience the luxury of background play where you can play YouTube in the background while you maneuver through your phone, and much more! They offer 3 free months, then after that, it’s $11.99 (it’s well worth it). Check out the plans HERE. Alright, now you have some tips to buying your music lover friend and a family member that nifty gift card or subscription. There isn’t any wrong with these options! Make sure you’re locked in to our articles that’ll come out throughout the month. Happy hunting and holidays!

Neighbors and Groovers! It’s that time of the year where we concentrate on the grooves and vibes that has us moving well. Mr. Al Pete has started season 5 of The Groove Suite Podcast…in a special way!Pete has been working the podcast networks with The Content Creators of Color group since January of 2022, which led to him participating in the C4Challenge in February. The concept of the challenge is to produce a podcast episode every day for said month. He accomplished the mission with his personal journey show Clear Vision Podcast, and he’s back in the October challenge with The Groove Suite show. Pete has been conducting interviews with various members in the collective (Jen Washington, Dominic Lawson, DJ Krate Digga), as well as with the people he shares the MPN space with (ChristinaCurates and Crowned ReRe). The topics simply include them selecting a particular song and having a lightweight, but informative conversation about it. They speak on their thoughts about the song, the climate the song existed in when it was released, and even the fashion that was out, and more. Also, Pete has solo shows where he shares his favorite songs and his experiences around it.

“The Groove Suite is an important brand for me,” says Pete. “It’s vital to me that within The MPN brand, we celebrate and have dialogue about the songs and artists that help us make it through the day.”To listen to the shows on Apple, Spotify, and other locations, click the link HERE to access. Words by Mr. Al PeteGood day, or evening Neighbors & Groovers. I don’t want to draw this out, but here’s an ideal of what B.A.B.N. 2 would sound like. The songs you’re hearing now are rough versions of the songs. For context, I like to record a reference of said song, send it to the producer of the record, make changes or add on things, record it again, get it mixed/mastered, and released to the world (or city…being that I feel like my music can’t get pass the city…in which the city doesn’t mention it much…for reasons I don’t have to go into…but it’s the obvious reasons). One phrase that will stick with me until the end of…is when DJ Jazzy Jeff stated ‘DIE EMPTY’…so…here it is (again…if you’ve followed me randomly throwing out some content, due to). I haven’t came up with titles for the songs. I had plenty of ideas and things I wanted to try out. The quotes you(‘ll) hear is from a collection of statements I came across and wanted them to assist me with my creativity with the music and the ‘admin’ side of things. Maybe they’ll be saved for later, but the quotes were centered around some of the topics of B.A.B.N. 2: hope, leadership, community building, and redemption. We’ll see what the music spirits brings for the next round of music. Praying it won’t be much time in between, even though the spirit of me leaving Hip Hop alone is present…and when I say Hip Hop, I mean mostly the emcee side, BUT…the culture of it is in shambles and I’m not sure if I want to continue. You know how you love something so much to where you want to leave it? Whether it’s abrupt, indifference, wrong, simple? Yeah…that’s partly where I’m at. Enjoy the podcast show/music. A word from Mr. Al Pete:After a podcast recording with my friend Crowned ReRe for our show Flowers For The Culture, I left the recordings on while we went through some of Barry White’s music and celebrated him…or gave him his flowers. It started with us comparing White’s adlibs to Westside Gunn’s famous gun adlib…and it went from there. I figured that it would help me get back in my creative bag, and it did. Check out Flowers For The Culture’s latest podcast episode HERE, and follow us on all socials and streams to get the latest episodes. Also, check out Crowned ReRe's website: https://crownones.com. On February 17th, 2022, EWU hosted their event series “Stay Woke: The Edward Waters University President's Distinguished Speak,” and the man of the hour was Dr. Cornel West. EWU President Dr. A. Zachary Faison, Jr. greeted and welcomed the audience with Tiger Pride, and the SGA President Ms. N’Aaliyah Jno-Baptiste introduced Dr. West. West, with no notes with him, took to the podium and share multiple gems to the crowd. One of them being how the younger generation is respected, protected, and also being corrected by the people that came before them. Dr. West reassures the students and the audience that they’re loved and cared for, and with that, they should walk with greatness and with purpose.

President Faison mentioned that they’ve submitted to have a second Masters program in Education, Policy, and Advocacy. Faison asked West his thoughts on how black policy makers will be able to navigate the space. This was the first of many great questions that were shared. Watch the video below to get West’s answer and get uplifted by the lecture. Photo credits: April Visuals

…a continuation of The Yo…but this time…it’s Yeaux. Make note. White began the roll out of his new apparel Yeaux Co., and we’re complimenting the moves. On this first run of promotions, we showcase the clean and intellect T-shirt. The color and style of it is great if you want to hit a happy hour or if you want to go up a notch, this could be laced with a blazer, or a jean jacket.Check out the promotion video below. Peace to Dedrick Hicks, Jr. for the filming and creative moves with this. The link to order the shirt is below, as well. We want to personally send a BIG THANK YOU to Courtney Matthews for being the interest in the video, and to Dapper D’s Cigars for letting us use the location to make this idea come alive. More to come from White. Don’t forget about the first Inside Look that we curated to match this. Enjoy and share.

…its The White Show. “Of course” for his fans…”cordially” for the newcomers. The name, the face, the podcast, the apparel. It equals a solidified brand nationally, and especially in Duval County (Jacksonville, Florida…for the non-graduates). From his black relevance (Forever Black) to reppin’ the historically black university he has ties to (Hill Life…whaddup FAMU Rattlers), White has this consistent push and style that demanded and kept the attention of his growing fanbase. “This” = his own cool, collect, and sure way of planting his footstep in clothing, and overall branding.

We felt the need to assist in letting our Neighbors and Groovers know more about White through images and videos. Creative director/photographer/videographer Dedrick Hicks, Jr. and Mr. Al Pete, playing Pippen, challenges the people to perform an analysis on what focal branding looks like. Be on the lookout for more content, introductions, and proper placements from The White Show. Oh its coming, Neighbors. Its a continuation from 2021…only bigger. Check out the behind the scenes video and The White Show podcast below Follow him on Instagram and Twitter, as well. Yo Yo Yo!
