In this episode your host Joseph Porter interviews Rich Boling of Techshot, Inc. on the topic of 3D printing in space.

Rich's work with the late great Chuck Yeager, working with astronauts on the ISS, 3D Bioprinting in Space, and working on a 3D printer that will make tools for future space exploration are talked about.

Rich Boling, is vice president of Techshot, Inc., which develops, owns and operates space research and manufacturing equipment. Since 1988, the company’s payloads have flown aboard parabolic flight aircraft, sub-orbital rockets, space shuttles, Northrop Grumman Cygnus cargo vehicles, SpaceX Dragon cargo vehicles and the International Space station.

Techshot partnered with nScrypt, an industrial 3D printer company based in Orlando, to develop a bioprinter known as the BioFabrication Facility, for the International Space Station. The companies also are now working on developing a multi-material space-based printer capable of manufacturing parts from high-strength aerospace grade titanium, as well as electronic assemblies.

Besides operating its own equipment, Techshot also manages ISS facilities such as NASA’s Advanced Plant Habitat, and two of the station’s materials-science research furnaces. With its agreements with NASA and the International Space Station U.S. National Laboratory, the company service as an access point to companies who want to conduct research, manufacturing and even marketing activities, in space.
