Former Clarke County Sheriff Ray Norris received a five-year probationary sentence in federal court Monday in Mobile. The sentence was imposed by U.S. Chief District Judge Jeffery Beaverstock. It will run concurrently with any sentence imposed by an Alabama state court. Eleven state indictments are pending against Norris. Last fall, Norris pleaded guilty to making a false statement regarding a bank loan. Norris reportedly borrowed money for a commercial venture but used it to pay personal debts. Norris’ troubles date to 2021 when the Alabama Attorney General’s Office filed impeachment proceedings against him, alleging corruption and offenses of “moral turpitude.”...
