Show Up and Surrender is a podcast born from a shared passion of living consciously, wholeheartedly. From knowing that there will be both good and bad, and that most of the magic quite often happens somewhere in between.
Research explains why we are mean to ourselves and that we can change it. Dive into self talk and its effect with me.Hi, I’m Biddy. A yoga therapist, teacher and teacher trainer. In these podcasts, I talk about my work and the things I discover, see and notice. The things I am passionate about or surprised by.This article was also sent out as a newsletter and published as an article on my website. My plan is to write articles and letters like this about topics that I’m passionate about more regularly. I hope you will enjoy them! Then this is definitely for you too! This episode I talk about why I chose to start this training and why I love it! For this episode I talked into my camera! Stephen is back on the podcast and joins me for a conversation that is open and honest. For both of us, this topic is quite raw and painful, yet at the same time very important. How does it feel to live in a body that doesn't let you do what you want. And we don't mean running a marathon up a mountain, or becoming an astronaut. We mean the things we think we should be able to do. Do you experience this too? How is it for you? This episode was recorded quite a while ago (October 2022), yet as I talked to Stephen about releasing it we found that it was actually quite fitting at this moment in time. So here it is. Grab a drink, make yourself comfy or maybe take us on a walk / ride. Let us know your thoughts, if you have any after listening. You can find Stephen at stephenlightbown.com & on Instagram @spokeandpencil.You can find Biddy at yogavayu.nl & on Instagram @yogavayunl Find more about us and more podcasts with us at showupandsurrender.com
Show Up and Surrender is rebooted and back! Today I tell you about what I have been up to at the end of 2022. I also share about why I haven't shared a new episode in a while. It has been hard for me to not release bi-weekly episodes, because having these conversations and sharing them with you is something that I love to do! What do you do, when there is something you love doing, yet you can't seem to find the time to do it? How do you deal with that? Please let me know, I would love to hear from you!I will keep showing up and sharing these conversations with you. They will come when they are ready, so sometimes bi-weekly and other times it might take a little longer. Connect with me: www.showupandsurrender.comMusic by Alex Stoner
In this episode I talk to Ely about Quiet, the impact the book had on us and how the world impacts introverts like us. I had a great time talking about not only the book, but also our lives. The things we do and experience in our daily lives, that can be so different for people based on their personalities.
We hope you'll enjoy listening and are very curious where you see yourself on the introvert/extrovert scale. Go to our website to find links to all the things we talk about, including links to tests about personalities!
If you liked listening to us nerd out a little on books, than the Zero Pressure Book Club might also be for you. A book club with NO required reading. Instead, you are invited to join and talk about a book you love, or maybe even a book you didn't like ;). We'd love to hear what you've been reading! The next meeting for the Zero Pressure Book Club is Friday September 16. Go to our website to find the link to the club!

Join Ely and Biddy as they talk about practices that offer (self)care. About how you can sometimes (re)discover a practice that helps you take care of yourself. Ely has reconnected to journaling and Biddy has been picking up her guitar more lately. And what is the role of perfectionism in how me connect to these practices we love?
I love how these conversations always open more doors than we planned and I hope you will love listening to this episode as much as we loved making it.
What practice have you rekindled with, or maybe said goodbye to? We would love to hear your take on this! Send us your process and your thoughts at hello@showupandsurrender.com.

Stephen is back on the podcast and I was so happy that he said yes when I asked if we could talk about A life with Pip. In August 2021 Stephen performed A Life with Pip for Theatre Absolute's artistic program HUMANISTAN. This performance was both live in theater and streamed online. In A Life With PIP, Stephen explores his experiences of applying for the PIP (or Personal Independence Payment) disability benefit. It's raw, honest, funny, infuriating and moving.
In this episode of Show Up and Surrender Stephen and I talk about how the performance came to be and the story behind it. Please listen, and after you listen go to the link to see the full performance. It is a story that not only needs to be told, it needs to be heard. More so, we need things to change...
Please let us know your thoughts, your experiences after listening. We'd love to hear from you.

Our main topic this episode is Marcella's intention for this year: Make it Sacred. What this means to us and how Marcella is implementing this into her daily life. We'll also tell you a little more about another talent that Biddy has been dusting off and growing the last few months.

Today I am talking to my lovely friend Lina. Join us as we talk about Showing Up & Surrender, and talk about staying within your comfort zone or stepping out. While talking through this Lina & Biddy discover why they feel about it, the way they do.
Some say all the good things happen outside of your comfort zone, what do you think? We'd love to hear your thoughts about this!
Lina is a yoga teacher passionate about mind, body and breath connection. She's here to remind you that you’re worthy of your own time and inspire you to be the best version of yourself. The one that feels good in their own skin - on and off the mat.

Join Biddy as she talks to Zahnina about making life changing decisions, trusting your intuition and the continuous process of self discovery. About acting out of love, instead of fear. About being kind to ourselves and getting to know our inner critics.
After almost 20 years in the hair industry Zahnina decided to change course so she can focus fully on what makes her heart happy. She is following her path built on trust, surrender and her passion to connect people to each other and themselves. To do this she utilizes different approaches of energy work: LEAP, reiki and her work as a trainer for Energy Up where she guides people through different stages of happiness in a beautiful musical experience.

Join Stephen and Biddy as they talk about showing up and surrendering as the father of a newborn baby boy. I loved this conversation where Stephen talks openly and honestly about the first few months of living with his son. About a brand new person you don't know yet, moving into your home and getting to know each other. About guilt, unsolicited advice, and about being on team baby.

I am so excited to introduce you to Ines!
Ines Schubi helps self-employed women stop stressing about food and their bodies so they can feel confident, energized and invest their new mental space and time into growing their business.
She does that by empowering them with knowledge and by giving them the tools to explore plant-based nutrition, intuitive eating and Ayurveda!
She runs a guided community experience called Nourishing Circle that helps self-employed women to feel energized and learn tools to cope with entrepreneurial stress by taking small actionable steps to feel lighter, be more intuitive, more confident, and eat more plants, all while having fun and eating delicious food!
After our recording Ines decided to start the next Nourishing Circle Journey on May 30th (instead of May 2nd like we say in the episode). This means that you have plenty of time to listen to the episode and apply to join Nourishing Circle for the next journey! Ines is offering our podcast listeners a 10% discount to join Nourishing Circle. All you have to do is tell Ines in your first call that you found her through Show Up & Surrender! Maybe I will see you there ;)

We are preparing ourselves for Coming Home retreat this weekend. And in doing so, we remember to create space for ourselves. And we notice that we all sometimes need to make space. Whether it's at work, at home or, when we want to join the Coming Home retreat.
In all of these situations there's 𝘣𝘶𝘵'𝘴 and 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧'𝘴 in our heads that might prevent us from creating space: 'But my kids need me.' 'What if my colleagues need my help?' 'But my partner/ roommate needs that room, so there is no space for me.'
It might come down to: how do I balance between space for myself and the people around me?
In this episodes we share our best tips to create space. And: this is your final call to join @cominghomeretreat. Sign up through the link in our bio.

In the past 20 episodes, self care and resting are regular topics we talk about. But Marcella noticed something in her environment and her own experiences:
It looks like everyone thinks that self care means treating yourself to: - a nice bubble bath - a good cup of coffee - snuggling on the couch with a blanket - getting a massage - Netflix
But is that really all there is to self care? When we are really honest to ourselves: what is good self care?
In this episode Biddy and Marcella share more about how they approach this and how they try to practice real self care.

We keep thinking: after this project is done... 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺.
And we know people around us have the same thoughts: When I find a new job, I will be more relaxed. It's crazy now, but in a few weeks.... Yes I will go and relax. Let me just finish.... As soon as this is over, I'll do that fun thing I've been wanting to do for months.
But the reality is, that 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳, 𝘪𝘧, or 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯, doesn't always show up. Often we don't find more 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦, 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺, 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘹𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 or 𝘧𝘶𝘯 when that "one thing" is finished.
Do you recognize this? If you do, you are likely to have a lot of aha-moments when you listen to our thoughts on this. In this episode we share how we try to prioritize rest and doing fun things, instead of postponing them.

Stephen Lightbown is a Bristol based poet who writes extensively but not exclusively about being a wheelchair user. He is a friend and someone we love talking and listening too.
In this episode Stephen shares his view on showing up and surrendering, especially after his accident. And he reveals the story behind his tattoo, which is almost exactly like our Show up and Surrender logo! We are pretty confident you will love listening to Stephen too.

𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙙𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙠 𝙩𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛? Join us as we talk about how we tend to be so much harder on ourselves than we are on others. We can get harsh, curse and call ourselves names when we "mess up". Often without noticing that we do it. We have our theories on why and we also have a few ideas on how we might start changing our self talk.

While listening to @leslieodomjr's audiobook 'Failing up', we found ourselves wondering:
A lot of questions that we answer in this next podcast episode Fear of Failure.

How do you manage your expectations if things are out of your control?
After the release of episode 4 (The Curve) we received quite a few messages. Most of you were letting us know that it made you think. Or that you were taking some things from the podcast and trying them out. We also received a question. One that got us thinking and talking. The result is here in this episode.
We hope you will enjoy this podcast -that probably won't be the last episode- about control.

The Curve.
The Curve has become such a big part of both Marcella's & Biddy's life that it was a logical first topic for their podcast. It's about how expectations change the way we experience everything we do and everything we feel. What does the Curve have to do with that? Listen as we talk about it and let us know your thoughts!
