Before we grow up, we derive pleasure specifically from Lo Lishma (not for Her sake), regarded as “clothing of falsehood.” This is called “shadow,” “concealment,” and then there is room for work, and we derive vitality from false things. Afterwards, when we are rewarded, we receive the light of faith (Rabash, Letter 12b).

Question: There is a false clothing, a concealment that I am in most of the time, and there is a shadow of faith, a place for work. How can you not make a mistake when you are in concealment?

Answer: It is possible to avoid mistakes only in connection with friends. Then you will have different options to choose from that constantly change places and meanings. You quickly begin to understand where you are, where the truth is, and where the falsehood is, and in this way rise toward the truth.

Question: Do the sufferings of the soul lead to turning away from false pleasures toward true ones?

Answer: Yes, this happens when a person truly feels that all the earthly pleasures that people enjoy do not touch him. He wants something eternal, real.

Therefore, move forward and always choose the highest possible pleasures that you want to direct to the Creator.
