Rehabilitation protocols / standards are commonly in place for “post-operative” care
.
HOWEVER…
.
It’s not a practice for patients to partake in during the “preoperative” routine
.
Two (2) reasons I think this is NOT happening:
The patient is unaware that they CAN SEEK out physical therapy prior to their needed surgery
The surgeon DOES NOT EDUCATE the patient that pre-hab can help improve their outcomes in the post-operative phase of recovery [or…prevent the surgery from possibly happening due to pre-hab progress]
.
This is WHY physical therapy rehabilitation standards need to be more clear than ever!
