ACCORDING TO the Farmers' Almanac, indigenous peoples of the north and northeast Americas called the Full Moon in February the "Snow Moon." Although January is usually the coldest month of the year in the northern hemisphere, the heaviest snows tend to fall in February, giving rise to the name.
