Our guests today are two men who truly exemplify the traits of kindness, perseverance, and friendship. They have both lived miraculous lives. When Dave was just 10 months old, he contracted polio. His parents were told that he would probably not survive. Not only did he survive but Dave went on to become the only professional baseball player to pitch and play from crutches. Doug had a son who was born with a disability and he was inspired by Dave’s story. Things miraculously fell into place for Doug and Dave to meet and a partnership was formed. They now are inspirational speakers, authors, and run the Disability Dream and Do camp for children with disabilities.

Dr. Mark Goulston is the world leading healthy conflict coach built upon his fifty year career that has included being a UCLA Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, 40 years as a clinical psychiatrist with a subspecialty focus on suicide prevention with none of his patients dying by suicide, FBI and police hostage negotiation trainer, author or co-author of nine books translated into 42 languages with his book, "Just Listen"; becoming the top book on listening in the world and the host of the My Wakeup Call podcast ranked in the top 0.5% globally. He is the developer of an approach called Surgical Empathy which uses radical attunement to connect to people at the core of their angst in a way that unlocks and frees them to survive and thrive. He is the co-creator and moderator of the Amazon Prime documentary, Stay Alive: An Intimate Conversation about Suicide Prevention, the co-founder of a movement entitled: A World Transformed: The Rising Tide that Lifts All Hopes and the co-creator of the Goulston Vohra Happiness Scale an emotional wellness screening tool being utilized by the entire country of India. The challenges seemed insurmountable, but Ella Claire's story was destined for a different outcome. An emergency c-section brought her into the world, and subsequent scans confirmed a formed brain but revealed a severe stroke in the womb, primarily affecting the right side of her brain, which controls the left side of her body.From mobility issues to communication barriers, Ella Claire faced daunting challenges. But her parents, Dean and Susan, refused to give up hope. They embarked on a remarkable journey that led them to embrace the power of love and determination.Over the years of home-based therapy, Ella Claire defied all expectations. By age four, she was crawling, talking, playing the piano, and tackling subjects like geography, all while learning multiple languages. Gershom Sikaala was living in a village in Zambia. He didn’t know who his dad was. Then he met his dad and was transported from the village to the palace. His dad and grandparents were prominent “kings” in the tribe system. His dad was even involved in the release of Nelson Mandela.Then one night when he was 9 years old, Gershom was visited in the night by a man who introduced himself as Jesus. This visitation changed everything in Gershom’s life! Gershom told his grandfather about the visitation by Jesus and his grandfather said “I’ve heard about that name.”Later Gershom got his hands on a Bible (from the Gideons who were visiting) and he was able to “find” this Jesus in that book!

The interview takes us through their incredible 10-year journey in the active duty Navy, filled with challenges, growth, and the joy of raising two daughters, Hali and Emma. Keith's transition out of the military presented its own difficulties, leading to the couple's decision to run a podcast focusing on veteran transition, which touched the lives of many veterans and their families.
Laura's academic achievements shine as she discusses earning her Ph.D. in Organizational Systems and Human Development and her dedication to coaching volleyball at the high school and college levels. One cannot help but be impressed by Dr. Dickey's passion for his heritage and ancestry. He is a member of several esteemed organizations, such as the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, the Society of Colonial Wars, and the Order of Polonia Restituta, to name just a few. His dedication to genealogy is further exemplified by his accreditation as a Genealogist with the American College of Genealogists in 1996.
He is a man with a truly giving heart, not letting his ministry remain within the walls of his church as he serves as Chaplain Lt. Col., for Squadron 63, Civil Air Patrol, USAF Auxiliary and as Deputy Chaplain, California Wing of the Civil Air Patrol.

Mike Dutra was considered an “at-risk” child growing up; his father was not very involved in his life and he experienced a lot of hardship at a young age. Steven C Barber didn't know he was going to be making monuments to some of America's great space explorers when he moved to LA in the 1970's. One of his most well known works is the the documentary "Return to Tarawa," an incredible story of one WWII veteran who returns to the island where one of the Pacific's bloodiest battles took place. José joined a L.A. street gang when he was sixteen and was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison at the age of eighteen. When he paroled from prison, he vowed to himself that he would never go back and dreamed of one day telling the stories of his peers. At the age of 31 and on the brink of taking his own life, he was able to remember a simple truth that he had believed as a child - that he as a person had inherent value, therefore his story had value. It was in that moment that he was able to find the value in his story once again. Jose is the founder and lead creative of We Are All One Story. He currently travels the country listening to and sharing peoples stories.

Kaylie is the Transitional Age Youth Program’s Director for the Youth and Family Services branch of the Channel Island YMCA. There she helps connect youth in need of a safe place to stay with services and counseling. Mari Hernandez’s world turned upside down on May 15, 2018, when she discovered her son, Andrew, had taken his own life. Known as the “Big Friendly Giant” by his friends, Andrew was just weeks away from graduating Santa Barbara High School. As a social worker, Hernandez understood that oftentimes those who take their lives appear happy on the outside, but she didn’t realize her son was struggling under the surface. Though she’s dreamed of starting a nonprofit for over 20 years, the idea for the Vida Center was born three days after Andrew’s death. Andrew’s football coach came to Hernandez and asked her to start it after two other kids on the team confessed to the coach that they too had plans to end their lives but chose not to after witnessing the effect of Andrew’s choice.

Ralph DeQuebec is 37 years old. He joined the United States Marine Corps at 19. During his third combat deployment, he was critically injured from an IED blast and received a Purple Heart for his actions in combat. During his recovery, he discovered the sport of Para Ice Hockey. He went on to win a gold medal in the 2018 Paralympic games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Ralph is the captain for the Colorado Warrior Avalanche, a co-founder of We Are All One Story and is currently training for the 2022 Paralympic games in Beijing, China.
