Vaccine inequity and deserts around the world continue to be an obstacle on the top of many pharmacists’ minds. How do we ensure that communities in every part of the world have access to the COVID-19 vaccine? You may have heard of the all-female team that delivered COVID-19 vaccines to their patients by sled in Alaska in temperatures below zero.

Meredith Dean, a pharmacy residency currently completing her residency at the Maniilaq Association, was amongst those women. From bush plane to sled, she went to her patients in their respective villages to administer vaccines. She says this is normal and a part of her job. Based out of Kotzebue, Alaska, she’s completing her  PGY-1 with the Indian Health Service where she thoroughly enjoys every minute of her life below zero. She lives by this quote “life begins at the end of your comfort zone” and her passion for helping the underserved and traveling led her to where she is now.
