In this monologue, Boaz appraises his Next-of-Kin's decision to refuse to redeem Naomi's land and marry Ruth and challenges him to see Ruth as a the women of virtue described in Proverbs 31. In some periods in history, the book of Ruth has followed the book of wisdom called Proverbs which ends with Proverb's 31's. Many commentaros of this passage say that it refers to Lady Wisdom, the personified description of God's wisdom in the book of Proverbs. Christians in the Medieval era saw Proverbs 31 as a description of the vocation of the Church.
