Learning to trust that we are his, a hard lesson that I had to learn as an adult in my faith journey. Our God has been so gracious to me as I’ve navigated paths in my own life, seeking to find meaning and purpose, without Him.
As a young person, there was a part of myself that would flourish during a week a way at camp. I would watch how my faith would be strengthened ten fold, until moments of being home and coming back to the “real world.”
“Jesus freak,” they’d say.
There was a part of myself that loved the Lord but I often left her at camp. I was neglecting that part of who I was, and it has impacted my heart for years since then.
Working with young people is so heavy on my heart because I can speak to a moment in my own life that could have shifted drastically If I would have been reminded that…
-I would never fit into the world.
-Seeking after worldly things WOULD happen.
-Following Jesus was a choice.
-That the part of myself that loved Jesus was who I was, deep down.
But, he is the God that writes perfect stories, and redemption is in his blood. We are made new in him, and with him. The part of myself that loves Jesus is the part of myself I get to live out now. Having waited many painful years, it was worth it to learn a hard but beautiful truth.
It was my identity as his child I was seeking, and it was the identity of his child that was found.
