It may be helpful to remind ourselves that even the heroes of faith did not go through life unscathed. Normally we like to remember their proudest moments, but it may be equally beneficial to recall their devastating failures. Not as a way of excusing our sins, but only as a way of reminding ourselves that God’s grace is always greater than our sins. The apostle Paul said,
“…God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.”
— 1 Timothy 1:16 (NLT)
Lord Jesus, thank You for not giving up on me, for not casting me out on the scrap heap of life. Because of Your great mercy I am redeemed. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
