The Illini were paced by Matthew Mayer early on, scoring 15 points in the first half on the way to a regular season career high 21. Illinois was behind by ten with eight minutes left in the game, and down five with under a minutes left, but still forced overtime. In the extra frame Terrence Shannon caught fire and scored 12 of his 16 points.
