Pre-Interview Environment and Technology Set-up
Make sure you are in a quiet area.
Camera is working properly - be sure to test sound and location of camera.
Make sure you are in a well-lit room/area.
Do not use virtual backgrounds for interviews. Keep your background as plain as possible with limited distractions.
Test and record yourself so you can see, hear and modify your surroundings
During the interview
Make eye contact
Quick tip: Minimize the screen you are appearing on and drag it just under/around your camera. This will direct your eye contact to the camera.
Make sure camera is on and microphone is working - be sure to have good internet connection
If a group interview, address everyone by name. Different than turning to someone in a traditional in-person/room setting.
You can have notes to look at. The interview doesn’t have to be robotic.
Tip: You can place post-it notes around your screen/monitor as quick reminders, questions or key points to discuss.
