Welcome back to Sidenote Suplex. The third season of Vice TV’s Dark Side of the Ring has already delivered a number of intriguing episodes. From the two-part season premiere on The Loose Cannon Brian Pillman to fascinating installments focusing on The Ultimate Warrior to Hardcore wrestling enthusiast Nick Gage, To more controversial episodes discussing Grizzly Smith, and The Dynamite Kid, and the wcw Collision in Korea events from 1995 , the series has once again been delivering and has been must-see TV for wrestling fans and casuals as well. Unfortunately, the popular docuseries is on hiatus right now before returning with its 2nd wave of all-new episodes and many are already saying that these episodes will be every better then the first set. The 2nd Wave of Dark Side of the Ring episodes will include Bruiser Bedlam, Chris Kanyon, Luna Vachon, Brands Frontier martial arts FMW, Extreme pro wrestling XPW, The infamous Plane ride from hell in 2002 and the controversial WWF 1994 steroids trial. Season 3 is scheduled to resume in September. The second half of the season, will continue to explore some of the darkest stories from the golden age of professional wrestling, which will notably include The Steroid Trials, where, in the mid 1990’s, wrestling titan Vince McMahon was accused of a plot to provide his wrestlers with performance enhancing drugs. With a guilty verdict threatening to force the WWF to consider running their business from a prison cell, McMahon assembled a powerhouse legal team to dismantle the prosecution’s case. WWE and Vince McMahon look to compete with this episode as they are coming out with their own special docuseries in association with Blumhouse Televison on the Steroids trial titled the United States of America vs Vince McMahon And check the archives for more info on WWE’s upcoming production.
Other gripping installments will cover the story of FMW, created by Japan’s Atsushi Onita, which featured spectacular matches and gratuitous gore but took a dark turn in the hands of Onita’s protégé; the groundbreaking talent known as Luna Vachon, who faced immense personal loss and battled addiction while making her mark in wrestling history; The Plane Ride From Hell, the infamous party onboard a private 757 charter high above the North Atlantic that spiralled dangerously out of control, forcing the WWE to reprimand some of its biggest stars; This will surely be a memorable episode and to find out more on that episode check out the archives where I break down all the events that took place on that plane ride from hell.
