The fulness of God’s blessing upon a person could very well be summed up in the phrase “eternal life”. That expression emerges predominantly in what could be dubbed the most important verse in the Bible, John 3:16 (CSB) — “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

And that eternal life is not so much an endless life — even though it certainly is that — but rather a high quality of life, God’s life.  And it is not only something we possess as a result of believing in Jesus, but something that it is intended to possess us. Just as our physical life is more than something we have but is the animating force behind all our physical movements so eternal life is intended to be the animating force behind all goes on within us.

How do we know when that is happening?  I suggest it is when we are increasingly giving undivided attention to who or what is before us, at any given moment, while remaining conscious of the presence and actively of God — so as to work with Him in what we think, say, or do.
