Bomani first told the developers that the show as it was laid out then, wasn't meant for him, but he also knew that if the show was going to work in the vision they had, Bomani had to host it and cater the show to his style and vision. Bomani looked for ways to add little elements of 'Morning Jones', his old radio show on Sirius Radio. That show was tons of fun and he was very creative then. HBO pushed Bomani to treat the show and make the show, the show Bomani want. The 'blackness' of the show is organic. The show is for the people who like it.
