Singer Meilech Kohn is engaged to Hinda Greiman of Baltimore.
The 53-year-old chosson and 31-year-old kallah will be getting married in the near future.
The kallah is a daughter of R’ Gershon Greiman.
Meilech was born in 1969 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and raised in the Satmar Chassidishe community there.
Meilech grew up surrounded by music, experimenting with a keyboard at home as a child. As a boy and in his teens, he would sit next to the ba’al tefilla during the Yomim Noraim at the shul of the Satmar Rov, Rav Yoel Teitelbaum. The chazzan was Reb Meilech Wieder, son of noted Chazzan Yehoshua Wieder.
Later on, Meilech broadened his horizon by traveling and learning in various yeshivos worldwide.
Meilech spent a while traveling and discovering music of all genres and styles from all over. He lived in Los Angeles for a while as well as in Israel for several years.
He spent a number of years working as the official chazzan in various shuls in the tristate area of NY.
Meilech became popular after the release of his song “VeUhavatu” in 2016. Before then, he was relatively unknown.
Meilech is a first cousin of singer Lipa Schmelczer.
