Lag Baomer on Har Meron’s organizer, Zvi Tessler, has presented the outline for the Rashbi celebration on Har Meron this Lag Ba’omer, exactly one year after the tragic disaster that claimed the lives of 45 Yidden.

It has been clear to everyone that this year, the Lag Ba’omer celebration will look different than it has been in years past. Indeed, several significant changes have been highlighted.

First, there will be only one fire at the event, which will be lit by the Rebbe of Boyan, who according to long-standing tradition is the one who opens the Lag Ba’omer celebrations in Meron. In previous years, there were about 20 fires on the mountain throughout the night.

At the end of the lighting, a memorial service for the victims of last year’s disaster is expected to take place. The ceremony will be pre-arranged with family members.

Reaching the mountain will only be possible via buses and dedicated shuttles and by purchasing tickets in advance, allowing police to know at any given moment how many people are on the mountain.

The tickets, which can only be purchased in advance and will not be sold on the mountain, will allow one to stay on the mountain for a designated period of time.

“Some have called for the celebration not to be held this year,” Tessler said, “but we thought otherwise. There is a large tzibbur for whom this is important. At the same time, we will not be able to satisfy everyone’s wishes. ”

Additional restrictions that will apply this year include a ban on food distribution and a ban on building tents around the tzion.
