This is a summary of the scientific literature on coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10, ubiquinone) and its reduced form ubiquinol.
It's clear that CoQ10 is safe, important, expensive. That it's a key component of animal cell respiration and drives over 90% of our energy production. It's depleted during disease states, such as heart failure, stroke, and cardiovascular inflammation.
CoQ10 is also depleted by statins. But what's not clear is whether improving levels of CoQ10 actually improve athletic performance and disease outcomes.
