For the last several summers, my girls have been taking horse riding lessons at my friend Lori’s farm in Valley Springs, S.D. Once a week, we visit the farm and after they turn 8 years old each girl gets to start lessons on one of her horses. This venture has turned into a highlight of their week to visit the farm and the animals. I grew up in rural South Dakota, but my family lived in the city limits of the small town.
