Last Wednesday evening, December 7, the moon was full at 9:08 Pine Ridge time. It was the tenth full moon of this Lakotan year. Its name is Wanichokan Wi, which translates as “Midwinter.” Coincidentally, the next day it snowed. Early the following Friday morning we navigated the snowpacked Lacreek District roads onto dry ones from Long Valley the rest of the way to Timber Lake in the Cheyenne River Reservation.
