Ronald L. Cournoyer, 79, passed away at home in Sarasota, FL, on March 26, 2023, after a long illness. A citizen of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Cournoyer was a lifelong tribal advocate as an agency executive, health care leader and consultant. He worked initially as a hospital administrator in South Dakota and Oklahoma for the Indian Health Service. In 1970, the IHS director ordered Cournoyer to Florida to support a new regional alliance of tribes in the Southeast and New York.
