A half mile from my front door there is a city park, where a stretch of creek winds along the base of a pine-mantled ridge. The creek has been dammed to create a placid pond. Every spring two pair of Canadian geese return to this pond and raise a couple of broods. One couple takes one end of the pond, and the other couple takes the other.
