Dear Editor: The proposed landfill by Presido in Pettis County will be located on Buckley Road near La Monte. It will initially effect Dresden, La Monte, Houstonia, Sedalia, Tyson Food, and farms in the area. Two landfills less than 5.3 miles apart is a disaster waiting to happen. According to the EPA, eventually all landfills leak. Chemicals commonly found in leachate include methane and carbon dioxide. Heavy rains wash this caustic leachate into ditches, streams, and fissures in the ground (contaminating ground water).
