The topic for our de-brief is ‘borrowed visions’. This was August’s publication. Each publication is delivered by email on the last Sunday of the month. You will be most welcome to join other thought leaders and receive your future copies before they hit the website, just pop over to httsps//theguruco.co.uk and sign up for The Monthly Musings.

As always, the topics are those that many business owners and leaders are reluctant to speak openly about in public or find there are limited platforms and forums for such open discussion. Both have been my experience in the past and hence the development of The Monthly Musings and this debrief.

Let's start at ‘blazing a trail’ This if you were honest s what you really want, isn’t it?

It’s certainly what I want and I make no bones about it. But before you raise from your seat and say that’s just ‘arrogance’ or ‘conceited’ or ‘egotistical’ it all comes down to the question ‘for what purpose’

You see the greatest value I hold is to make the most out of this life and squeeze the very last drop of juice from the lemon. Showing others they can do the same. To inspire people, business owners, and leaders to do the same. No one should live a half-life.

You may be one of the millions who are inadvertently following someone else's blaze and ‘borrowing their vision’. I know I did for years.

In the monthly musings, I spoke of my client's descriptions of feeling trapped and suffocated by success and the path they were on and this really resonated with me.

Now the way I described recognising that you are blazing your own trail was that of the face full of cobwebs.

Just like in business or life these cobwebs represent challenges, dislikes, and obstacles to get through. And that’s not a bad thing.

So many individuals are forced back because of the unpleasant nature and feelings and never get any further just stay. These will be the people who have a borrowed vision. They will look for a path that is already cleared.

Those who go through do it in their own way, marking their blaze for others to follow. They won’t be doing it because they are chasing someone else they will do it because they have their vision.

Now I suggested to my subscriber to help breakthrough cobwebs a simple but powerful exercise. I call it 'mirror gazing'.

You know that saying the eyes can't lie. Well, your eyes are possibly the one thing on your body that has remained virtually unchanged since birth. They are the window to your soul.

Now I invite you to do something similar for yourself… to allow yourself to see you. Who do you actually see using only adjectives list what you see?

You know in interviews the big question is to tell us about who you are.

This leads to lots of nouns, doesn’t it?

I asked my subscribers instead to look in the mirror and only use adjectives to describe themselves.

You may be surprised by who you find in the mirror.
