The CBW team has attended a number of production sales over the past month and OH BOY have they been exciting! I will assure you that not only have the averages been up, but so have the crowds of people in the seats. Sure, milder weather the past couple of weeks has allowed people to travel but, in my opinion, cattlemen, cattlewomen and cattle kids enjoy the excitement of bull sales. Folks can go and enjoy a nice lunch do business buying bulls and stick around for hospitality after the auction. It is not just about doing business, but it is about taking part and enjoying the cattle business. The demand for bulls may be at an all-time high. Last summer’s weigh-up market brought a number of bulls to local auction barns. Last December's extremely cold and harsh winds prior to Christmas created fertility issues for even the best stockmen. The reports from many cattle producers are anything but positive regarding bulls’ testicles freezing. If you have not semen tested your bulls in the past, I urge you to do so prior to turnout later this year. I promise you will be better off knowing now rather than when you preg check cows later in 2023. The past couple of weeks with temperatures above the 32-degree mark have sure been appreciated. As the snow settles, many of you are starting to see some of the damage it created...from livestock to buildings and oh, yes, your pasture fences. And OH...
