As I am writing this week’s column, the wildfires in Texas have been burning for over a week now. Six fires in the Panhandle have been raging and now encompass millions of acres. Smokehouse Creek is the largest fire, burning over 1.1 million acres and 500 buildings, and is only 15 percent contained according to the Texas A&M Forest Service. Other fires include the Grape Vine Creek Fire which covers 34,900 acres and is 60 percent contained. The Windy Deuce Fire covers 144,300 acres and is 55 percent contained.
