Networking doesn't need to feel cringey and icky. We have been catfished into thinking that networking = shmoozy events where everyone trades business cards and participates in insincere conversations. But if that's all we think of when we hear the word 'networking', we are missing an important piece of the puzzle - it's much easier than seeking out new people and it helps you form much stronger, more meaningful and intentional relationships.

In honour of the new ORGANISEHER™ productivity planner, this episode is all about how to actually get stuff done - not just tell people you're getting stuff done or planning to get stuff done, actually doing it. We've talked about timeblocking, reflecting, setting up your day with 3 big priorities, categorising your to-do list based on the amount of time it will take to complete a task & those are all things that you will be able to do with your productivity planner. But today, we're discussing the three things you need to get yourself into the right headspace to be productive - because you can have all the right tools in the world (our planner included) but if your head isn't in it, you won't be productive & those tools will be sitting somewhere collecting dust.to celebrate the launch of our new productivity planner & as a token of my appreciation to you for all your support, we are offering free shipping NZ-wide on orders placed during our launch week (15 Nov - 21 Nov 2023) if you use the code "YAY". available at the organiseher website: https://organiseher.co/ from 15 Nov 2023, NZT.

Life is all about people. The quality of our relationships determines the quality of our experiences which determines the quality of our lives. We've all heard that well known concept around each of us being the average of the five people we each choose to associate with the most. In today's episode, we talk about the five people you NEED in your life & it is inspired by a fabulous Ted Talk by Stacey Flowers which I have linked for you below. If you've ever caught yourself asking the universe for a sign that you're making (or that you have made) the right decision, you aren't alone. When you are faced with big decisions, knowing that whichever choice could impact the direction of your whole life, it's completely fair that you look to the universe or a greater power to give you certainty & clarity that you're doing the right thing. But what do you do when the universe doesn't respond? How do you know if you've really made the right decision? Is it even possible to know? In this episode, we talk about how to leave the doubt behind & be confident that any decision you make is probably the right one.

We all have our triggers. Some of the most difficult, triggering interactions we have are the ones we face when dealing with hurtful people & their hurtful behaviour. While you can't avoid hurtful people for the rest of your life, there are some ways you can manage your triggers so that they don't get the best of you & in order to keep you grounded. You can't control what anyone else chooses to do, but you do get a say about how you respond to it. In this episode, we discuss 4x helpful strategies to deal with your triggers in the face of hurtful behaviour.

We know that trusting our gut, our intuition or our instinct is usually the right thing to do, but how do we do that when we aren't ready? In this episode, we discuss what it means to trust your gut, why we often struggle with it & how we can find the confidence to overcome any self-doubt that might be getting in the way. We also discuss why it's important to forgive yourself for not being ready to trust your intuition because it never helps to beat yourself up over it - as long as you're committed to getting there in the end.

Have you ever noticed that you tend to take things personally when you know you probably shouldn't? Maybe you get defensive, or simmer over an issue for days - maybe you've had a full blown relationship breakdown because things were said & the hurt was so deep that it felt irreparable. The reason we often take some things personally (even when they are not personal at all) is because we all have our own insecurities deep within & whenever something offends you personally, those insecurities have been triggered. In this episode, I discuss some of the way we can overcome this.

You know that super accomplished feeling that you get when you've had a super productive day, you've had a plan, you've executed it, you've got everything done that you wanted to get done? Somewhere along the line, this idea that self-love is selfish has infiltrated society & it's lead to apprehension about whether self-love is something we should embrace or whether it's a selfish concept that we'd be better to steer clear of. So what's the deal? Should we lean into self-love or is self-love just a cute way to excuse toxic, self serving behaviour? In this episode, I discuss whether self-love really is selfish. Spoiler alert: It's not. In this episode, I'll tell you why.

It's the last episode of EMPOWER for the year & today I want to acknowledge you. More importantly, I want you to acknowledge you. Whether this is the first episode you tuned into, or if you are an avid listener that tunes-in every week, I'm grateful that you've made time for me & time for this podcast. But when was the last time you made time for you? No distractions, no noise, no one telling you what to do or how to be, just you. If we take it further, when was the last time you sat with yourself and not only made time for you, but made time to celebrate you. If you haven't done that yet, ever or just for this year, please do it. Make it one of the last intentional things you do for yourself this year. In this episode, I give you a task that will ensure you're doing just that.
Take care, be safe. I will chat to you in late Jan-2023.

In this episode, I share some of the best advice I have ever received at a time of huge uncertainty. I was agonising over a few things and really questioning my own judgement. It was one of those times when you feel like you have to make a decision ASAP but you’re afraid that you won’t make the right one. Ever since I was given some advice around how to deal with that, everything has changed. Dare I say it, life has been much easier. So if you have any of those big, changing-the-course-of-your-life kind of questions that you are struggling with, consider this advice.

We all know boundaries are really important when you want to live a fulfilling life (and especially when you are working on yourself and your own personal growth. But, many of us are fearful of the impact that setting boundaries could have on our relationships - it can feel pretty uncomfortable to put yourself first when you haven't really done so before and of course, you don't want your loved ones to feel neglected or unloved. In this episode, I talk about the key to ensuring that you can maintain your boundaries and keep your relationships solid (and it's surprisingly easy to do, once you know how to).

Let's talk REST! When you take a break, are you really giving yourself the rest you need? Do you give yourself permission to rest? And I mean, really rest. As a workaholic, I know I need this episode probably just as much as you, and admittedly I feel like a bit of a hypocrite for this one but in preparing for it, I've found some really interesting information. Did you know that there are 7 different types of rest? In this episode, I take you through each of the different types of rest as well as a few general tips to improve your rest habits.

In today's episode, I discuss some helpful tips for those of you who are wanting to overcome social anxiety and low self-esteem. We are heading into that time of the year where there’s lots of social events - Christmas parties, New Years events, holidays with your extended family or perhaps holidays with some new people. For some of us, even the thought of an impending social event is enough to send us spiralling into our minds. What we know for sure is that human connection is crucial to our quality of life, so let's talk about how we can make sure we aren't missing out on that (without having a major freak out).

Today we're talking all about about discovering self-worth - that internal sense that you are enough and you are worthy of good things - love, companionship, contentment, success, rest, honesty, commitment. But not just discovering your self-worth, but also the ability to communicate it to the world . I'm all for building that sense of self-worth internally, but if you don't know how to express it externally, then you're likely to attract people that might not recognise or value your worth, and consequently, not treat you the way that you deserve to be treated.

Perfectionism - the paralysing enemy of progress. Something which we sometimes wear like a badge on honour but the truth about perfectionism is that it will prevent you from achieving your goals, taking risks & living the life of your dreams. In this episode, I discuss how perfectionism has manifested itself in my life (and continues to do so) as well as what you can do to stop it from hurting you.

No matter what your relationship status is; whether you're single or in the happiest, healthiest relationship you've ever had (or anywhere in between), the last situation you want to find yourself in is feeling like you're losing yourself to a relationship. You could even be well past this point because it's so subtle, half of the time you may not even realise it's happening. In any case, this episode deals with some of the strategies you can use to make sure this doesn't happen to you too. And don't worry if you feel like it already has happened to you because I also discuss how you can return to yourself again.

We all know the book was written for couples who want to make their love last & work on improving their relationship & so on - all really good things. Ever since I started this podcast I've always prioritised making episodes that you guys want to hear & it's about time I bite the bullet & record one of my most requested episodes. Has September been crazy for anyone else? Because it sure has been for me! And a couple of my coaching clients have had the same experience! There's so much to be grateful for, but sometimes a very busy schedule can be incredibly overwhelming. It is super important that when things feel a bit busier than normal, that you have the right systems in place to make sure you are managing your time and prioritising what really needs to be done because trying to do everything without a strategy behind it, will burn you out. We all have our own expectations & standards of ourselves. Often we apply those same expectations to the people around us - but is that fair? Probably not. In this episode, I talk about why we need to stop using our own expectations as a lens through which we view the situations, decisions & general life choices of other people (because if we're being really honest - the only person we harm when we try to enforce our expectations on others, is ourselves).

As someone that typically goes against the grain, I'm passionate about this one! I've seen too many of you putting yourselves into situations that you really don't want to be in because you don't want to let people down. I get it, I've been there, but it's not worth doing it if you're going to let yourself down in the process. In this episode, I talk about how peer pressure can impact us at all stages of life & how to deal with situations & people that put you in a position where you feel you need to conform to everyone else's expectations. It's time you start honouring who you are & what you want.

We don't talk about this enough and that's often because it's easier to live in ignorance or we are afraid of what people will think of us if we either 1. Do ultimately walk away; or 2. Just ask the question, share all the bad stuff but stay in the situation anyway. For most of us, trying to decide whether or not it's time to walk away isn't as easy as knowing something isn't good for you and going MIA. In fact, it's normal for us to agonise over the decision for quite some time before taking the leap. In this episode, we consider some of the issues that arise when we're trying to decide whether or not to walk away from a relationship, a friendship, a job, a project or a dream.

Today's guest is my best friend, Letitia Saunders, and we are talking all about our experiences in previous relationships with cheating & betrayal. We have both been cheated on & we both handled it very differently. As painful as the experience was for us, we both agree that we are better people for it, but no one could have convinced us that when we were deep in our feelings. Those feelings are some of the hardest we've felt & we hope that in talking about them, someone else can find some comfort in our words. If you're trying to navigate your way through something similar, or, if you're just interested in hearing two best friends having a very candid conversation, check out this episode.

We love our friends. We really can't live without them, But new relationships (or single life) can change our own needs and expectations of our friendships. This episode is inspired by two women who contacted me seeking advice - one, who is single, trying to navigate being the 'single friend' while the other, in a relationship, trying to support her single friends. We aren't discriminating over relationship status' in this episode - what we're really talking about is how to be a good friend, regardless.

Covid-19 has impacted all of us over the last 2 years and a bit. For the first time in our lives, we've been subject to lockdowns, mandates, border restrictions, vaccines.. and everyone has an opinion about it. It has polarised us and this polarisation has impacted our relationships. So what do you do when someone you love or respect has an opinion that differs wildly from your own? In this episode, we talk about it.

Every week, the Empower with Mihi podcast instagram page receives messages from listeners asking for specific advice but I've realised that most of the time, the queries I'm getting are appliacble to many of us, so every month I will do an advice column-esque style episode with listener queries where I will speak to a few of the issues that have been raised. Life is full of the good and the bad - and as much as we wish it could be always good and never bad, life doesn't work that way. Sometimes things don't go so well and the feelings that flow from that are overwhelming, devastating, chaotic, depressing.. and these feelings can be extremely difficult to deal with. Let's talk about it. In this episode, I think back to the last time I was going through something like this, share how I overcame it and provide some tips about what might help you if you are experiencing something similar.

Are you really easy going or are you just bad at asserting your boundaries? When we actually think about that question, the overwhelming majority of us realise that maybe we do need to work on our boundary-setting skills. Let's start with something simple - stop saying it's ok when it's not and stop saying you're fine when you're not. In order to set effective boundaries, we need to communicate (truthfully) about how we really feel.

Is it just me, or do we all kind of know we need to be more assertive but we are sometimes hesitant about asserting ourselves because it's not necessarily well received on the other end? Don't let that stop you - if someone takes offence to you asserting yourself, it sounds like a them-problem. In this episode, we talk about how being assertive is not the same as being aggressive and why it is vital that we are bold and brave enough to assert ourselves when life calls for it.

I know that the phrase 'New Years resolution' triggers people. Trust me, I get it, but hear me out. If we change the way we look at New Years' resolutions, we realise that it's actually really simple - we have all set goals for ourselves before and a new year just means another chance to set new goals. In this episode, we talk about setting goals and keeping them.

FOMO ("fear of missing out") is dangerous; it makes us feel inadequate, or like there's something you lack in your life, compared to everyone else. Social media has worsened it and at this time of the year, our feeds are full of everyone sharing what they're up to during their holidays. We're heading into the busy Christmas and New Year period and while we are excited to tie up the loose ends of 2021 and start afresh for 2022, there's one thing that is almost always a given - this time of the year can be extremely stressful. Whether it's financial strain, toxic family members, full social calendars, overindulging, or all of the above, in this episode, we will discuss each of these stressors and what we can do to manage them.

When was the last time you put your phone down when someone was speaking to you? Around Christmas time, there is so much emphasis around buying and gifting 'presents' that we forget how much more important our 'presence' is. In this episode, we talk about the value in being present with the ones we love and how it brings us closer together. Instead of getting caught up in the Christmas holiday hype, we should remember that the most valuable and meaningful things we can do for the ones we love have nothing to do with spending money.

"Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." We waste way too much energy worrying, stressing and overthinking about things that we have zero control over. It needs to stop. In this episode, we unpack this well known phrase with some real life examples and discuss how putting these words into action helps us find some peace in realising the only thing we can control is ourselves.

We are heading into crunchtime for 2021 and as we enter the busiest time of the year with deadlines and Christmas and holiday plans, it's easy to get cripplingly overwhelmed by it all. In this episode, we discuss burnout in all aspects of life; what it looks like, how it affects us and what we can do to avoid it (or in some cases, recover from it). It's been a big year for all of us but it's not over yet. Let's make sure we don't break ourselves in the rush to the end.

We get one life, and the sooner we accept that we are here on limited time, the sooner we can start making the most of what we do have. Loss touches us at varying degrees at different times of our lives and tragedy always has a way of throwing everything into perspective. It reminds us to tell the people we love that we love them, but we need to say those things without someone having to lose their life to trigger it. Let's make the most of what we have so that we aren't left reeling over what we didn't do when we had the chance.

Recently I've had people reach out for advice around university and whether (based on the information they have given me), I think they would be 'smart enough' to pursue a university degree. Now is a good time for me to share some of my takeaways from law school and my experience at uni in general, but more importantly, I want to break apart this false assumption that to be successful in study (law school, uni or otherwise), you need to be sufficiently smart enough in the first place. It's not true. I believe it has nothing to do with how 'smart' you are but rather, your own personal qualities and values. In this episode, I'll tell you why.

Despite what the media has us believing about what self-love and self-care 'looks' like, and by that I mean: face masks, massages and shopping sprees, there are plenty of other ways that we can show ourselves self-care without it breaking the bank (or even touching the bank). In this episode, I talk about the small ways that we can indulge in physical, social, mental, emotional and spiritual self-care without spending a thing; it may feel insignificant to incorporate some of these tips into your life but I promise the long term effects will be invaluable.

Why do we find it so difficult to acknowledge and honour our worth? Why are women less likely to apply for a job when we don't meet 100% of the criteria, or less likely to ask for a payrise in comparison to men? Why don't we feel comfortable speaking up and demanding to be treated the way we deserve? Often it has something to do with lacking the ability to honour our worth, or, failing to know our worth in the first instance. In this episode, we talk about ways that we can let ourselves down when it comes to knowing and respecting our worth, but also how we can be more empowered to act and move in a way which prioritises our self-worth.

Change is unavoidable in the human experience, and without it we cannot grow. But, it can be hard to navigate through a busy transition period or even gather enough courage to step into change in the first place. This episode is totally inspired by what I'm going through right now and is geared towards making a big career change but we will also discuss the ways in which being intentional about the life you want and the person you want to become, will lead to the changes you require to manifest the best version of you. Certainty, safety and security are comfortable, but a comfortable life doesn't necessarily translate into a fulfilled one. In the middle of all the chaos, let's talk about how we are able to embrace change for the better.

Financial health is having a conscious and purposeful relationship with money. We humans have a complicated and complex relationship with money but most of us cannot live without it. Are you good with your money? If not, it only takes a few small mindset shifts to significantly repair the relationship if it's dysfunctional. In this episode, I will share my own money story (while totally exposing myself) and then we will discuss some of the helpful tips that I have used to improve my relationship with money. In order to transform the relationship that we each have with money, we need to assess what it looks like at the moment - our money values, our money habits and our money thoughts - then we need to think about what we want to change and create a plan.

Comparison is the thief of joy! So why do we do it to ourselves?! It is human nature to compare yourself to others, but we can all admit that we are too familiar with that feeling of desperate comparison that leaves us feeling threatened, insecure and jealous. Too much comparison is not good for us. Obsessive comparison is terrible for us. So how do we get past it? When it's so engrained in us, is it even possible to overcome it? Maybe not, but hopefully this episode gives you some tips that you can use to practice self-awareness, hold yourself accountable and redirect all of your energy which is being spent on feeling unworthy towards achieving your goals and growing into the woman you are supposed to be.

Sometimes life can be difficult and there is no denying it. A great source of comfort to us in the midst of life's challenges is this notion that one day we will be able to look back and find the valuable lesson that was hiding in the middle of it all. But why do we have to wait to find it? Is it possible for us to identify the learnings and be going through hell at the same time? I think it is. I also think that the sooner we can come to terms with a bad situation, the better placed we are to utilise the discomfort it's caused and convert that into power. It's time that we start growing out of the pain, before it overcomes us.

No one likes to admit they are a people pleaser but many of us are. If you are a woman, I can pretty much guarantee that you will be so good at people pleasing that it should be on your CV. Why? Because we are a product of the society within which we were raised and women are, and have always been, raised to make sure everyone else is happy, often at their own personal expense. It doesn't need to be this way. In fact, it is better if it's not. People pleasing isn't kindness or compassion, it's lacking emotional independence and self-worth. So let's have a chat about how to get past it.

Gaslighting is not cute, it's not fun, but it happens. We know that it is in our best interests to avoid toxic people that engage in toxic behaviour, but let's be more specific. Gaslighting is a form of emotional, abusive manipulation. Often we don't realise it's happening to us until it's too late. Even when we finally see it for what it is, what are we supposed to do about it? What if it's someone that means the world to you? In this episode, we discuss gaslighting, how to spot it, and what you can do to build the confidence over come it.

If you live in NZ right now, you will be well aware that August 2021 has thrown us back into a Level 4 lockdown. The coronavirus has rocked our world ever since its arrival and it continues to impact the freedom of movement that we used to take for granted. How have you coped with the countless restrictions, uncertainty and new way of life that we've been forced to accept as the new normal? Have you enjoyed locking down or does it send you spiralling into the heaviest depths of stress you've ever known? No matter how we each handle the constant changes over which we have zero control, there are a few small things we can do to make things a bit easier. Let's talk about them.

What is confidence to you? Society has successfully convinced us that confidence is this magical (often unattainable) thing that you either have, or you don't. It's reserved only for those who are conventionally attractive, extroverted and successful. However, there is a difference between someone that appears to be confident, and someone that actually is confident. We discuss all of it in this week's episode, as well as the one, simple thing that authentically confident people all have in common, and how you can join the club.

They say, "You are only as good as the company you keep." I don't necessarily know who 'they' are, but they are right. We are all well aware of how influential our nearest and dearest are in our lives, but how do we know if they are the right people for us? The decisions we make around who we invest energy into and spend the most time with are quite possibly the most underrated. Let's talk about why it's so important that you choose wisely.

We all have that negative voice in the back of our minds that regularly pops up and tries to convince us that we aren't good enough, or that we need to remain in our comfort zone. This is all well and good, until we realise that voice is holding us back and is often the reason we feel like we aren't living a life true to who we are. It's only once we learn to ignore that voice, that we really start expanding our horizons.

What kind of relationship do you have with your body? For many of us, it's complicated. Something that we need to work really hard on is trying to drain out all of the expectations and standards that are forced on us about how we are supposed to look and instead just focus on accepting my body in all of its forms. Our bodies are with us for our entire lives (like, we literally live inside them, forever) so it's vital that we do our best to nurture that relationship; that we take care of our bodies, because they are the vessels for our souls.

Procrastination is the cycle that we love to hate. We all wish we didn't do it and we know it makes no rational sense, but that doesn't stop us from falling into its trap. There's no quick fix for procrastination, but once we realise what triggers it, we become better at reducing it's influence on our lives. Instead of allowing it to let us drag out the things that need to be done until we are bordering a last minute panic-attack, we can train our minds to get things done when they actually need to get done. That way, we can sooner start enjoying the pleasures of life, guilt-free.

We all know that we have so much to be grateful for, but often we forget to practice that gratitude. By adding a few gratitude practices into your day, you will realise how vital it is that you take the time to remind yourself what there is to be thankful for in any moment. The act of practicing gratitude allows us to find and feel joy, and helps us shift our focus when things aren't going so well. Sometimes instead of thinking about the past or worrying about the future, the kindest thing we can do for ourselves is remember how grateful we are for the here and now.
