Hi everyone,

This is the 29th episode of Wu Fei’s Music Daily —Freight Train.

Freight Train is an American folk song written by Elizabeth Cotten in the early 20th century. I discovered Elizabeth Cotten soon after I saw a concert of blind musician Doc Watson in Boulder, Colorado more than 15 years ago.

From my own background of strict training in Chinese traditional and western classical music, I rarely heard voices and music like this — that is simple in the form but deep in the soul. I started to read more about Elizabeth Cotten’s story. What an inspiration she was! She played the guitar in a unique way called"Cotten picking”, which created very interesting sound.

Hope you all are staying safe and strong during this difficult time!
