36 years agoNov. 6, 1986 Clarke County voters went to the polls Tuesday and helped make history in the State of Alabama as they, too, voted to elect Republican Guy Hunt as governor; the first Republican governor in 112 years. Jim Folsom, Jr. beat out Republican Don McGriff for the job of lieutenant governor and in what some people feel was a surprise. Richard Shelby beat incumbent Jeremiah Denton for the senate seat.
