Carvel Rowell’s name is one that is familiar to decades of Thomasville athletes and students. It’s a name he shared with his father, Carvel “Bama” Rowell, who played major league baseball. “Bama” passed on his athleticism to his son, who grew up in Citronelle and lettered in four sports— baseball, football, basketball, and track. He was awarded a scholarship to Livingston University (now the University of West Alabama) and played both baseball and football there from 1962-1966.
