Tommie Smith Jr., 94, of Coffeeville, passed away Feb. 4, 2022, at his residence surrounded by family. He was born Aug. 17, 1927, in Sweet Water. A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during World War II. He had been employed at J.B. Hunt as a truck driver but he owned and operated an auto parts store in Coffeeville for many years. He served two terms as the mayor of Coffeeville and served three terms on the town council prior to being elected mayor. He was also a member of the Coffeeville Volunteer Fire Department.
