Thomasville volunteer firefighters never know what the next call will be. Wednesday morning, Feb. 23 they were paged out to a train fire. The lead locomotive of five engines blew a motor and briefly caught fire. Thomasville firemen and the Clarke County Emergency Management Agency responded and assisted in extinguishing the fire near the Davis Avenue crossing. All the crossings to the north in the downtown area were blocked but the Joe David Industrial Blvd. and Gates Drive crossings on the south end of town remained open.
