William, “Bill” Leon McNair was born on May 25, 1938, in Montgomery. He died peacefully at his home on May 10, 2022. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery in 1956. He was a 1961 graduate of Livingston University (University of West Alabama) where he was a four-year letterman in football and baseball. After college, he began his coaching career in Birmingham.
