One hundred ninety-three United Methodist churches in South Alabama and the Florida Panhandle officially disaffiliated, or withdrew, from the denomination Sunday, May 7. The churches are large and small and spread across the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. In Clarke County, only Gainestown UMC with five members present all voting for disaffiliation withdrew. Fruitdale UMC in south Washington County and Aquilla UMC in south Choctaw County also disaffiliated. In Marengo and Wilcox counties, smaller churches such as Arlington, Pine Hill, Payne Chapel, Wesley Chapel and others disaffiliated.
